Good points, but the colour part may be subjective, my little cousin use to watch super with me and he likes those colours, in fact, for him the fight between Goku and Beerus was pretty cool, time later he kept asking me, " hey!! i wanna see that guy with red hair fight !!!".Faisal Shourov wrote:Nah, not even close. There are many reasons
DBZ had better fight choreography (I have watched plenty of battle anime like Fist of North Star, Bleach, One Punch Man etc. and DBZ fights are GOAT)
DBZ had better music and voice (this is a rare anime where Dub >>>>>>>>>>>> Sub, take bruce faulkner or DBZ kai both are awesome)
DBZ had better colour (Super is too bright and kiddy, not attractive to teenagers or older kids who were primary audience of DBZ outside Japan)
Lastly, DBZ was the greatest anime of all time when I watched it as a kid. Now I have been spoiled by other good anime like Code Geass, Death Note, Steins Gate, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Hunter X Hunter. Super's mediocre animation and fight choreography and story doesn't make me want to watch it, but i still do because of nostalgia.
My tastes may have changed because of age but I can still spot the differences. Super is not as enjoyable as DBZ.
Super has flaws, but i think that our perception may be different from the kid's, not because we're older, but because times have changed, and with them, dragon ball as well.
I really miss ma boy, Black

Yes with a Kaio-Ken on top!
I enjoy super a lot because I mainly compare it to what else is out there today. Though I don't think it compares unfavorably to the Buu Arc I've seen so many remakes and sequels and spin offs that DESTROY a franchise in my eyes. Super doesn't do that IMO

DBZ and DB are the same show. Why is everyone differentiating DBZ and DB?
On topic i think Ajay covered pretty much everything. The sound effects and music in Super are the big ones. They don't even remotely make me feel like i am watching Dragon Ball.

Nope. This it has much less padding and I have to wait for the next episode now...

No, I enjoy Super but It's missing the magic what Z has, everything was just right back then BGM, etc.
And for me, real Dragon Ball is with the old SFX and with Kikuchi as composer and without the shiny colors, so it will never feel the same for me.

Really? I guess kids taste have changed with time. Many modern anime are quite bright too. Maybe I am used to DBZ's gritty style which doesn't suit my tastedbs fanboy wrote: Good points, but the colour part may be subjective, my little cousin use to watch super with me and he likes those colours, in fact, for him the fight between Goku and Beerus was pretty cool, time later he kept asking me, " hey!! i wanna see that guy with red hair fight !!!".

Goku vs Beerus was indeed quite good (episode 14 had good animation). Are they addicted to the show? Because I watched DBZ after school with obsession. I don't know if Super can create such a devoted fanbase amongst the younger viewers, DBZ was my life as kid and teenager
Toyotarō: … I get the feeling I’ve just heard something amazing (laughs). Lord Beerus and Whis turn up in Dragon Ball Super, and have become an unsurpassable wall for Goku and the gang. What do the two of them mean to you?
Toriyama: Well… First off, right now I don’t have any plans for Goku and Vegeta to surpass Beerus and Whis.

I dont know their level of obsession but I know its been among the top watched anime in Japan, though someone please correct me if I'm wrong this is based on info I read, though I believe it hasnt sold as much merch as other top anime. Still decent sales though I believe?Faisal Shourov wrote:Really? I guess kids taste have changed with time. Many modern anime are quite bright too. I feel Super is starting to become good since Shanpa arc, I would suggest OP to watch both BoG and RoF movies then jump straight to Universe 6.

Re: Does watching DBS feel the same as watching DBZ?
Really depends what you want out of this franchise.
If you want rememberable fighting scenes Like Z had then Super might not be that good.
If you liked the character interactions then Super is good.
If you want a solid story then Super is in my opinion mediocre.

Also to answer the thread.
Nope and I don't see how that's a bad thing. I like how characters non fighting characters such as Bulma,Jaco,Mr,Satan,Baby Pan,Krillin,Pilaf gang and soon to be Mai get plenty of screen time.
I also like how powerful characters such as Beerus,Whis,Hit and some others are not turned into fodder the next arc. I actually enjoy Supers style of doing things far more than I did z besides the Saiyan and Freeza arc, because it resembles how Original Dragon Ball did things. It also reminds of One Piece which is one of my favorite series ever.
Re: Does watching DBS feel the same as watching DBZ?
In my opinion it is good that Super is different than Dragonball Z i mean what are you expecting?? the series is called Dragonball Super and Super was made not only for the dragonball audience but
for other anime fans
for other anime fans

I said solid it at least is better than Frieza training and getting up to the point that he is able to get stronger then ssb goku or gods starting a tournament over food.Lujin_16 wrote:Shuby wrote:Really depends what you want out of this franchise.

If Super was animated like DBZ then I don't think anyone would be complaining. If it aired straight after the Buu saga then I'm sure there wouldn't be any or as much hate.

Re: Does watching DBS feel the same as watching DBZ?
After today's episode, yes, Super is starting to feel like Dragon Ball Z, at least from a narrative standpoint. The actual watching experience is different because it's not something I run home from school to watch, but now that we're seeing things like Goku and Trunks' fighting escalating when things are looking dire, characters get beaten by the main villain, retreat from battle to train and find other ways to win, those are many of the things I enjoyed about watching the series when I was young. The fact this arc initially seemed like a generic fanfiction on paper (Trunks returning, evil Goku as a villain, etc) makes that all the more ironic... yet I can't complain because... the writing and execution thus far is actually pretty good. I'm seriously hoping Toriyama wraps this arc up without disappointing, I could actually see myself looking back in years to come saying "That was good Dragon Ball, exactly like I enjoyed it in its original run in the Western world".

Re: Does watching DBS feel the same as watching DBZ?
It's night and day. I watched the latest episode of Super yesterday, and then I watched Kai on Toonami, which featured the Goku vs Cell battle. My god, it's embarrassing how much better a remastered version of a 90s show is compared to something that came out recently...
Poor animation is just the tip of the iceberg though. DBZ was already on somewhat of a decline with the Buu saga too, with it garnering its fair share of hate, so I don't think Super would have helped either. Probably would have faired better than GT though.HybridSaiyan wrote:If Super was animated like DBZ then I don't think anyone would be complaining. "Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
