Episode #0065 (18 February 2007)
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
Excellent podcast as usual. I've been looking forward to the 'big orange review' for a while. I've decided not to buy the sets, although if I change my mind, I'll probably get the Australian releases instead. If Madman had any sense, they'd change the awful orange colour and cross-eyed Vegeta for something more pleasing to the eye.
BTW, what's a 'mosey Yak'?

Even though I already bought the set I was really looking forward to hearing what the DaizEX gang had to say. I have to say I agree with everything they said despite me enjoying the set...sort of.
The only reason I bought the set to begin with, and will continue to buy them, is that I've been a huge fan of the series for a long time but haven't seen it all. Except for the Buu and Freeza stuff, and a few random episodes from the Android/Cell arc, but even those I've only seen/own a few epsodes "uncut".
The lies piss me off, the cropping pisses me off. But the fact that I can finally see the whole series without the editing and see it all in Japanese as well for a nice cheap price. This makes me happy. It's a very bittersweet purchase for me.

I thought it may have been some bizzare American pronunciation, you know like 'aloominum'.MajinVejitaXV wrote:A yak who moves in a leisurely, relaxed manner. Duh.Kula wrote:BTW, what's a 'mosey Yak'?
Just kidding. Mike meant "mosaic." I think he was just joking with the pronounciation

If I had the money, I'd definately get the R2 singles and use these box sets for the subtitles and English dub and make my own 'dream' DVDs, custom covers included. Although no amount of dreaming will get my beloved Ocean dub onto DVD.

She is actually a he, Kula's a guy. Believe me, I was very surprised myself when finding out in the IRC chat, that name spelling and avatar are very deceiving. I tells ya', this forum needs a gender signal in the profiles.MajinVejitaXV wrote:She may have meant the latter seasons, or the "international" dub.

And yeah, probably meant the rest of the series aired in the UK.

When I refered to the Ocean dub, I meant everything from the Android saga onwards.
My name 'Kula' (pronounced 'coola') does sound a bit feminine I guess, and having a female in my avatar doesn't help. I've had the 'Kula' nickname for about 7 years now.
Mike, as far as releases go, the 'DB collection part 2' is due out on the 7th March...

Update:
My buddy ended up reinstalling his server operating system, as something appears to have gone haywire. He's checking everything, and assures me it'll be back up tonight. At that point, I should be able to finally upload the review.
To compensate for the delay, are there are clips people wanna see comparisons for between the DragonBox and FUNi Season One? I'll encode to DivX.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

ATTENTION:
It's been brought to my attention that the method I used to calculate the bitrates on the DVDs was flawed (the program was, per reliable sources, a piece of crap that just reads headers and doesn't actually analyze the video streams).
So, the technical aspect of these discs may not be as sound as I had figured. I'll report back tonight when I get home and get a chance to pick them apart. Sorry for the erroneous information.

Eh, it's a part of the overall presentation so it's worth noting. We didn't drone on about it, but we gave our genuine opinions.simon_winter wrote:Good, comprehensive review in the podcast, but it seems like there was a LOT of nit picking (i.e- the design of the box itself, the way the episodes summaries were listed, etc.). It got to a point where it just seemed like FUNi bashing just for the sake of FUNi bashing.
Besides, it's not like the packaging was the only ammo we had against the box set ;p

Well normally I'd say picking on a box would be just FUNi bashing. But in this case, these type of boxes are known to be flimsy, plus the fact the it is very annoying if you want an Even Number disk.simon_winter wrote:Good, comprehensive review in the podcast, but it seems like there was a LOT of nit picking (i.e- the design of the box itself, the way the episodes summaries were listed, etc.). Otherwise, good show.

Yeah, I've only had my set for a few weeks and it's all ready covered with wear and tear, and that is not good anal retentiveness.Lavender Saiyan wrote:Well normally I'd say picking on a box would be just FUNi bashing.
