I wouldn't take Trunks' letter as anything more than promotion unless we get a statement to the contrary (after all, how would he have heard about Freeza's revival, much less sent a letter through space time, since we're not going with the 'Time Patrol' route it seems), but I also wouldn't be surprised to see that he's continued his training. With nobody to train with though, his gains might not be that great unless there's more to it - even Freeza seemingly needed Tagoma to bat around to get as much stronger as he did.

Anything is possible though, we'll just have to wait and see.

If you're not willing to take his written letter into consideration, then look at it from a logical view standpoint: Mirai Trunks is the last remaining warrior in his timeline. He's its only hope. Unlike Gohan, who was focused on his studies rather than training, Mirai Trunks would have no time for such a thing. There's rebuilding civilization and his determination to ensure that no one else, especially his own mother, would be killed by a new threat in the future. Therefore, he would need to train to become stronger.

I would like to travel to the past again and fight alongside Son Goku and the others, but I am sure they have all grown far stronger since I last saw them.

Last time he saw them Goku was dead so how does he know he's alive let alone stronger ? Hopefully he won't know this in the actual story and will be surprised to see Goku alive.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Mirai Trunks most likely believes Goku is dead, so him being the first person Trunks saw when he woke up made him assume that Black followed him into the past.

I suppose I forgot to mention this. It was Chapter 13. Anyway, he does it to hide his movements from his opponents.

I have to imagine he has been training, as the preview for the next episode seems to imply his and Goku's SSJ forms are about on par (then again, brief flashes of footage, out of context, can be misleading).

Should future trunks be training? Yes. It's logical. But not any more logical than the fact that gohan and gotenks should have done the ssg ritual by now. Free power up just for holding hands? And I doubt they wouldn't have been able to absorb it. Gokus considered a prodigy for doing it, but the half saiyans are even more so. Also God ki should be given to everyone including the humans (at least piccolo c'mon) . This series just simply isn't as logical as it should be.

Ok, why would Goten & co need a SSJG transformation? Goku and Vegeta are massively OP to begin with. It's not like Present Day Earth is in any kind of threat.

I agree, but why does it have to be Gotenks? Goten and Trunks are their own characters, and I'd personally love to see Super Saiyan God Goten.

They're never gonna get that stuff because they want Goku and Vegeta to be the strongest fighters from Earth. Gohan & Gotenks getting their old strength back on top of God power would make them leaps and bounds stronger than their fathers.
