Is anyone still hooked with Black versus Trunks scene? Because I can't tell you how many times I've watched it. It's so good. The camera work, framing, eye-level animation, all of it were really done well. The atmosphere of the scene really added the weight. The coloring is so good.

The production really has picked up lately. I hope they continue it!

I honestly can't stop watching the fight scene between Goku Black and Future Trunks, either. It's just so well choreographed, animated and directed. Shimanuki has really stepped up with Super.

Speaking of fights, I hope we're in for a great episode with 50, hopefully it's Karasawa.
Also Ajay was totally right about the fight not starting till 50.

Please be Karasawa. Please be Karasawa. Please be Karasawa. Please be Karasawa.

I want to see him handle a big fight. He's slowly made his mark with us while we've been following his progress over the past few months, but he hasn't really had an episode where he's really blown everyone away.

I hope this'll be his moment. He deserves it.

I'm a little worried it'll be Matsuzaka and Onishi.

So this shot really stuck out to me in the preview for 49.
Anyone have any idea who the artist might be?
I also made a quick color edit.
I hope that one day we actually do get a new color pallet...

I'm like 90% sure it's going to be a Manabe/Oka episode. It reminds me of episode 6. Maybe Maruyama is back as a supervisor? Dunno. I'm just guessing. I really don't know for sure.

I'm excited though! I think the Trunks and Goku sparring scene might be quite nice.

I mean the specific artist for that shot, doesn't look like something from Manabe or Oka to me, other shots in the preview do, but that one doesn't to me.

Ohhhhhhhh, I get you. Sorry!

Hrm. Yeah, dunno about that. Hard to tell when everything's so on-model.

Maybe Daisuke Ogata is back or some of the other freelancers they bring in for the Oka/Manabe episodes?

Whoever it is they're great, it's on model but at the same time looks so much better than Yamamuro's models.
Looks like modern Yamamuro with soul injected into it and with better facial proportions, especially in the width of the head. Reminds me of Budokai trilogy era Dragon Ball art.

I watch it at least twice every day. It's perfect.

The shots of Black in Episode 48 were so fucking beautiful. I could stare at them for hours.

We're an hour away before the episode airs, I just hope they give us something solid to say the least :S

Episode 49

Image

Animation Supervisors
Onishi Yoichi & Toma Seizo

Key Animators
Sasakado Nobuyoshi Toma Seizo Kuroyanagi Kenji Ikai Kazuyuki Yoshiyama Yuu Hirabayashi Takashi Horii Nobuo Tomiki Yumiko TAP

2nd Key Animators
Tu Yeong-chaek Ishii Tamaki Tezuka Emi Sato Tomoko Tsukino Mua Studio L

--

So I was TOTALLY wrong. Onishi makes a return proving that he's a worthy addition to the franchise. I'm really having doubts about Toma's ability as a supervisor. I really don't like any of his episodes since 4.

Holy shit @ Kenji Kuroyanagi joining us! He absolutely must have done those final scenes. They were channeling the old school character designs so hard. Awesome.

As expected, it appears Karasawa will be handling next week's fight. Should be a fun one.

The first half of the episode was fantastic, and while the second half had a few rough patches, it still look quite good as well. Was Onishi responsible for the first half of the episode? Because if so, great work from him.

Basically all the on-model stuff is either Onishi or corrected by Onishi. Toma has a more angular style and uses varying stroke thickness, so he's pretty easy to spot, too.

The episode seemed kinda scribbled out in the second half, so I'm guessing those bits were probably outsourced.

The ending was almost certainly done by Kuroyanagi. Twitter buddy who's a big fan of him said the effects were instantly recognisable. I'll double check when I have the raw, but I trust him.

Yet another script by Tomioka Atsuhiro. I guess he is the main writer for this arc. For which I am pretty happy about.

I noticed that the "shinyness" that people were complaint for a long time has tone down quite a lot in this episode.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Man, it's good to have Onishi on board. Really impressed by that guy! It makes me really happy to see that they have been adding talented key animators to these episodes like Higashide and Kuroyanagi. Atsuhiro is a good writer as well, I'm happy with his work! This arc has been solid so far, really hope it doesn't stop this roll anytime soon. Karasawa's up next week I believe. It'll be interesting to see how he does when handling an episode like this!

Yeah, I wonder what's happened to Toma. I wonder if he isn't getting enough time, if he is being asked to tone down his style, or if he just isn't having fun with his recent episodes. It's a shame, I really wish we could have another episode like episode 4 again.

I noticed som old school character designs in this episode too. Especially the SSJ3 Goku part.

Don't like much what I saw in the NEP. I expect the best from Karasawa.
I hope he doesn't drop the ball now.
