Oozaru Gokuu and his grandfather Gohan

So we know Gohan did not want Goku have a look at the moon. The question would be, what do you think how the first transformation that Gohan witnessed ended? Gohan must have survived it somehow. And what did he do? Wait a few hours for the moon to disappear so Goku would revert? We do not even know if that is possible because we just know that "disappearing => reverting to base" worked because Roshi and Piccolo destroyed the moon (though we can assume it would also work naturally).

So what do you think happened?

I guess it ended naturally. Maybe he wasn't transformed for long. Or maybe he fell asleep or something, haha.

That's tricky. It was probably very hard to survive a whole night with a Great Ape stomping around. Goku might have seen it in the last couple hours of the nighttime.

He probably got out to pee or something in the middle of the night and looked at the moon.

If it happened years before the story started, when Goku was still much younger and weaker, then Grandpa Gohan may have been strong enough to just KO him even after he transformed.

Well they live in middle of the forest , so he could have let him rampage all night without much damage . As seen in pilaf saga Ape Goku didn't use any ki attacks , he was just mindlessly rampaging in one location .


Gohan is Roshi's star pupil, he is strong enough to evade Goku's rampage, at least for the first time .

Do people think Goku only went Ape twice as a kid? Once for Grampa Gohan to survive and tell him not to look at the moon, then the second he died.

Because I think it'd take a good amount of intuition to link it to the full moon, (sure I know werewolves and such) but for Gohan he found a kid from space so to link his transformation to the moon after one incident would be quite the assumption. I feel there must have been several incidents.

Maybe Goku looked at it when he was just a baby, turning into a smaller, weaker Great Ape, rampaging through the woods until he transformed back.

Or maybe he saw the full moon and started transforming, but Gohan interrupted it.
