Things that grind your gears
Things that grind your gears about Dragon Ball.
For me, people who hate the sub actors, I understand not liking they voice work and stuff, but people who outright say that they all suck and have no talent then yeah, I've got a problem.

Omni-King's overpower, and him having a clone personality to Beerus when it comes to getting angry.
I'll probably think of more along the way.

Mispronunciation, hyping up baseless rumors or "leaks", Broli, treating power level math as the word of god, Nozawa bashing, and intense cynicism for Super.

The slight anxiety about wondering if they really are having this other writer from pokemon writing the bulk of the Gokû Black arc. I got attached to King Ryû and the other writers we usually have.

Pretty much this for me.nite_jay wrote:People who criticize the animation for the wrong reasons.
Super's animation is worthy of a lot of criticism, but man, zooming in on long shots, screencapping inbetweens, and the one that annoys me the most, speaking about one cut as though it's representative of Super as a whole.
There's also, "Toei are cheap and they don't care". That one's pretty annoying. Don't get me wrong, Toei can and do half-ass things at times, but if you pay attention to the money they're pouring into Super to try and rectify the issues caused by the series' premature debut, fans certainly wouldn't be saying that.
I guess my answer boils down to "hyperbole". I hate exaggerated comments that don't really say anything. You can't have a conversation when someone's barking, "This is straight up shit" over and over. It's fine to be critical, but it's critical to be fair.

Tomioka has written for dozens of anime, not just Pokemon. Not sure why you would make a big deal out of him writing for one particular show and now doing Dragonball.Chuquita wrote:The slight anxiety about wondering if they really are having this other writer from pokemon writing the bulk of the Gokû Black arc. How widespread misinformation is in the fanbase.
"Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.

The idea that Vegeta is being mistreated just because he doesn't beat the main villain in the end, and the idea that Gohan has become a shell of a character just because he isn't kicking ass.
When Super apparently shoves Goku down our throats:

Almost everyone from the US staff. But I always kinda liked adult Gohan's voice

Hm, I don't get bothered easily, but if I have to choose, it's not having one uniform interpretation of Dragon Ball. As interesting as it is to discover the differences, it does make some discussions confusing when one person is adhering to one adaption while another is sticking with facts from the original. That's not really too much of a problem today, but I occasionally get hit with a rather offhand "fact" that takes me awhile to wonder why the individual said such a thing.

Re: Things that grind your gears
It's got nothing to do with pokemon, it's more "I like when we have a different writer every couple episodes". I'm sure it won't bother me unless things get really weird and he does like 10 in a row.precita wrote:Tomioka has written for dozens of anime, not just Pokemon. I only mentioned pokemon because I'm still in the process of committing his actual last name to memory and associations are easier. A bit longer and I'll have Tomioka memorized.

Re: Things that grind your gears
These are things people say often that grind my gears:
"Kai eliminated DBZ because of reasons, therefore the correct timeline is: DB----DBKAI---End of Z"
-Falcouner's music is better than the original score.
-GT is not canon.
-The Japanese version has its own dub.
-Goku is voiced by a girl? I don't like it.
-"Things the Dub did better than the original"
-Chichi is not getting enough TV time. WHY ARE YOU NOT FULFILLING MY SHIPPING NEEDS? WHY IS BULMA NOT HUGGING OR KISSING OR CUDDLING WITH VEGETA?
Pretty sure there's more.

Snobbery towards preference of dub/sub. Goes both ways in case anyone has any bright ideas.

Besides censorship, Viz's manga is great, I ever prefer it over the Funi Kai dub.Lord Beerus wrote:- Fans who cling on to numbers and statements of strength from characters in-universe to enjoy a fighting show.

Re: Things that grind your gears
People hating on Funimation for not bringing Faulconer back to score any of the new material. I can understand if you'd want him back just because you prefer his music but cursing out Funimation for him to return isn't gonna help anything.

The snobbery towards Faulconer Music being a preference for some people.
Zarama's Design.
The newer games never having the right arena explosion effects.
Goku's grating Flanderization.
The constant "Food solves everything" gag in Super.

Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.
