Dragonball, oh no's

Post by chibi_goten » Fri Feb 23, 2007 7:57 am

Simple topic, when watching the series did any parts happen that you thought oh man I wish that didn't happen, or I didn't see that coming I thought/hoped they would do it like this.

I always thought in Dragonball that Goku would end up with Bulma, I never really liked Chi Chi at the time. (She has grown on me now, but at the time I just wasn't too sure). Another I had was with Gohan & Videl getting married and having a daughter.... Pan. I still don't really like this, I think it tied Gohan down and even though the series was coming to an end and that would be a good ending it limited the series continuing if it was ever going too which it did with GT, and we all know the response to that.

Trunks pwning Freeza.
All "but he deserved it!" comments will be cheerfully ignored.

16 not being wished back was pretty sucky, too.

Originally, I never would have thought that Vegeta and Bulma would end up having a couple of kids together.

EDIT: Another would've been Piccolo sacraficing himself for Gohan during the Vegeta saga. Didn't see that one coming, and I BAWLED.

Me neither. I remember reading about it on a website when the Namek Saga was still on the air and telling people about it but nobody believed me. :P Though if you think about it, it was probably the most unlikely match at the time.

The only thing that really shocked me was that Bulma and Yamcha broke up and she got with Vegeta. I never saw that coming, I prefer Yamcha to Vegeta. Other than that, I like every other shocking thing about DragonBall and I've got no complaints.... except for how GT's story went. Bargh! Shocking and confusing.

Freeza coming back so Mary-Sue can kill him.

Buu killing everyone on the lookout was pretty dissapointing. None of these characters had got to do much in a long time, and the fact that they now were gone for pretty much the rest of the series was too bad. Especially Videl, who hadn't been around for long at all. Tenshinhan getting knocked out so quickly in the later battle falls under the same point.

Yeah, even though they all stood no chance it would have been good viewing to see everybody working together and attacking at the same time, but being took out one by one.

This is something I really didn't like in the battle with Buu either, everyone just get killed, even Gohan, and boom goes the Earth like on that Canada/UK show Lexx. It's something that seemed to be fixed with the final battle against Super Yi Xing Long, as we got to see pretty much all of Goku and Vegeta's family (minus Bra) join together for the final battle for literally everything in existence. There's one scene in particular where the dragon attacks everyone, even Chichi, and they're all sent off into the distance while a blind Goku is left alone to defend himself against this pure evil being; that moment is just heart wrenching and sent fear through me the first time I saw it. Then there was getting to see Gohan actually get in some of the action before he donated his energy to Goku, the surprise Gogeta fusion between Goku and Vegeta, and the final showdown where how Goku pulled off that win is just as ambiguous as the series ending. That final battle just seemed to bring back all the awesomeness that was DBZ and that GT hadn't touched much, but I'll be damned if that final battle wasn't probably the best (GT episodes 57-63).

I really can say I was shocked by any thing in particular seeing how I was exposed/introduced to the series through the internet. So I'm going to go with the first time I saw "Fat" Buu on Cartoon Network. From the pictures I saw online, I thought the only Buu was Super Buu (I also thought each Buu was its own being as well). Oh and Freeza getting killed in Squall, realizing that a series with such good music could be so bad (GT), and Krillin having a family life with No.18-the biggest load of FANTASY in the entire series.

When Cell came back. And when Goku Kamehameha'd him. And when he regenerated after it. And when Gohan Kamehameha'd him. ALL OF IT, MAGNIFICENT.

I still bawl every time I watch that scene. Sometimes I can get through the first parts dry-eyed, but then Piccolo's line about Gohan being the only person who ever spoke to him like another person... gahh, that part gets me every time. Yet another reason why Piccolo ties with Kuririn on my top favorite character list.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Disagreed. A lot of things like Vegeta & Goku's rivalry, Son Gohan's character development, etc., would've been left behind. Sure Goku dying on Planet Namek would've been a fitting ending, but I would much perfer for the series to continue on. If anything, leaving Goku dead on Planet Namek & letting Gohan take over as the main lead would've been a compromise at best.

BUT HE DID DESERVE IT!!!!!

Anyway, I'll go with Pan being around in the first Saga & a half of GT. I'd rather see Goten around, I hated Pan.

Well, as cool as a genocidal tyrant can be.

Don't they all. Hahaha, I was waiting for someone to say that.

Am I the only one who likes Pan...?

Well that's true, he was badass. That's why Trunks rocks, he matched that badass attitude and sliced him in 2.

Yeah, I really liked how that played out in Budokai 1 with the epic music and stuff (even though the actual last fight was horrible). The game ended it like how I would like to series to end.

That's because we know what was to come. IMO, if it ended with Goku saying something like he did at the end of the Cell games or something, it would be great. But to know the series from way back in DragonBall and to end it with GT is too much (I have a feeling I've said this at least twice in this forum).

Nope, I'm a Pan fan. Hell, I got Final Bout for just that reason. XD

As for the topic at hand... Gohan being the one to beat Cell, when I first learned of it (sadly, before it happened), was a shocker.
