This part seems odd because DB/Z most definitely wasn't really one-sided though. Most of the cast actually did things there under Toriyama's direction.kinisking wrote:I feel like a lot of the minor complaints are toriyamas fault. I honestly wonder how much he likes doing this. Sometimes it feels like he's just doing the bare minimum. Maybe he thinks it's easier to just have goku and vegeta doing everything. Honestly what we have now is worse than a true goku and vegeta show. It's mostly a goku show featuring vegeta. Vegeta only looks more prominent because he's the only real side character. Everyone else can barely be considers that.Kagari wrote:This part seems odd because DB/Z most definitely wasn't really one-sided though. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I feel like a large aspect of Toriyama's old writing style is inextricably connected to his old writing environment. And by that I mean the kind of conditions he was in while writing the story. Writing it week by week, bit by bit, on the seat of his pants, writing himself into corners as he went, and being forced to improvise each time.
With the current batch of material, he's likely able to plan things out in an arc, from beginning to end, and do precisely what he wants how he wants to do it (in however vague of detail). He's not crafting the story organically and letting it evolve slowly anymore. I think character usage differences are in large part (at least on Toriyama's end, where merch pushing isn't likely the prime concern) the result of him not forcing himself to need to use anyone else. He's playing it incredibly safe by being able to plan ahead.
If he wrote the Buu arc in this current environment, he would have planned how Gohan would start out, and he would plan an end for him, and fill in all of the key details he cared about before sending it in. If he wrote the Cell arc this way, Gohan wouldn't even be guaranteed to have saved the day, since Gero was Toriyama's planned big-bad of the arc.

What you have to say does carry some merit. It makes me wonder how he drafts his outlines these days. Does he still contact his trusted editors? He's no longer in the dark alongside his readers as he was once proud of. It also seems he wants to push Toyotaro to be more loose with his own interpretation, as if he's becoming the editor now.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
So I'm not sure if anyone else discussed this during the con, but at Anime Expo, there was a Toei booth there. The both was showing the raw unsubbed Super episode 1, and had a section for Dragon Ball Super, One Piece and Sailor Moon Crystal Infinity Arc.
It was a shot in the dark, but I decided to ask the employees there if they knew anything about the state of localizing Super, particularly streaming rights. Much to my surprise, they said they are actively in negotiations, but that the goal is to get it official livesub streamed and when that gets announced, they would simply catch up and release the backlog of catalog episodes all at once.
I realize I am just some random person from the web, but I've been the kind of guy that approaches each company and asks them hard and fast questions for quite some time, so I always try to get the most important info whenever I'm at a major con (I asked at the official sunrise panel about animating more works based off of gundam manga that a lot of fans have wanted, for example). This was the first time I've heard a major positive answer regarding an upcoming release for Super.
tl;dr Super streaming rights are currently being actively negotiated, and those negotiations will hopefully come to an end soon. Things ARE happening behind the scenes.

Woah; livesubs?! Even One Piece makes you wait an hour for official subs. Impressive if they can pull it off (though the quality of the subs is a factor. Would it be actual Funi subs or Toei's subs ala Crystal?)
On hiatus.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'd pay for an official subscription service to get live subs. I think there's money in that.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

By the way, no one has said this yet, so...
Today is Super's birthday!
I can't speak for everyone here, but I hope that, for however long the show goes on for, that it continues (yep, I said it) to deliver greatness! And hopefully a dub soon.

I'm half kidding of course
If the show gets better story wise it can keep going on for a while still but honestly, if it never got made we wouldn't have lost anything of value.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I disagree. This show has filled me with hype and has brightened up my Saturdays. I would definitely have lost something of value. Happy brothers super. May you last a long time

Yeah, a happy first anniversary for DB Super!
It started off middling, then regressed a lot with the RoF arc, before picking up the pieces with a low stakes tournament arc, before finally showing some promise with this new Future Trunks Arc! Hopefully by the next anniversary it'd have scored more than 5/10 on my personal ratings

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I wasn't going to say anything in response to him because people like him have already had time to realize this is character development. They've been told over and over again why it makes sense. If they don't like it by now, then they never will. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be offensive. I think it's okay to dislike something even if it makes sense for the story. For example, I don't like how gohan has completely devoted himself to studying. But on to my personal opinion about this gif. I agree, he did it for the right causes. It's not like vegetas goofy all the time. Only when it's for the things thst matters most. Surpassing goku and his family's survival.Lujin_16 wrote:Vegeta has changed and it is good so otherwise it will be boringTheMikado wrote:Happy Birthday!

Excuse me, but the gif you posted was from the 2013 film Battle of Gods, not Dragon Ball Super. The anime's adaption had Vegeta cook takoyaki for Beerus.TheMikado wrote:

I don't think he cares where it's from. He was probably just referencing vegetas goofiness in both which he doesn't like.
