When Future Bulma gets disintergrated in Dragonball Super, just seeing chunks of her silohette rip off with the explosion while Black's hand stays firm made me do a double take. Sometimes it's things that are left mostly to the imagination that can screw with you more, though the added fact that the last thing Bulma saw before she died was her best friend as the face of her murderer.

Back in Z I always found the 'Buu Human Exstinction' attack shocking as we slowly see most of the world get ravaged. Coupled with Buu's chilling smile, Piccolo's chants of ''I'm so sorry!" and just how sudden the attack was. It was a ''HOLY SHIT!'' moment alright.

I know it's already been brought up, but god damn, that scene where Gero squeezes (?) that guy's head off, that was insane for my 12 year old self  .
BTW that red notice box scared the shit outta me.

Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Also, surprised no one has mentioned the scene of the two children being eaten alve by a horde of demon rats in the Garlic Jr saga.

That happened? What chapter was that scene in?

Its edited pretty heavily. They just look unconscious in the anime.
Image
Is anyone else laughing at the kids mohawk in the anime version?
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I think it's an honest misreading of the page. In the manga, the kid is facing the "camera" and you can make out his ear on the top and his open mouth at the bottom. But we're looking at a hi-res close-up copy online; the animator probably just had the tiny image inside the physical book in front of him.

Also, I guess nice touch of flipping the dead mom in the opposite direction so it's not so obvious her guts are spilling out. You could make the argument based on that anime screenshot that she's not cut up at all, and just has a long dress on.

And people still say the Majin Buu arc is kiddy and lighthearted.

It is kiddy and lighthearted in many parts. Other than the old couple, I can't invest in the stakes because the dragon balls just bring everyone back and there are no limits on them, plus instead of trying to kill the guy who just killed his mom (or half of his moms), Gotenks is preoccupied with silly attacks.

You've actually reminded me of another quite uncomfortably moment. After Piccolo blast a hole through Goku he proceeds to spends several minutes stamping on the hole and jamming his elbow into it. It was very unsettling to watch.

Another one just triggered for me, when Broly used Goku's stomach as a trampoline. The stomping was forceful enough to draw blood from Goku's mouth.

Dodoria shoving his hand through that Namekian's chest.

King Vegeta stabbing a baby.

Gero popping a guy's head off like a Pez dispenser by squeezing his neck really hard.

Babidi making Spopovich explode.

Babidi making that random guy's head explode.

Babidi cutting up some people near his ship and leaving their bodies strewn about the landscape, particularly the woman who was bisected at the waist with her intestines hanging out.

Buu punching Vegeta so hard he's vomiting and crying blood.

Buu exploding Babidi's head with a punch.

Buu killing a man by force-feeding him liquid.

Buu killing every single person on Earth in the anime, where we see his beams violently impale people as they try to run.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Spopovich's assault on Videl always gave me an uneasy feeling.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can't help but think about that scene whenever I see 18 and Chi-Chi on screen together.

The ones that come to mind are Goku kicking Drum's head in, Freeza ripping Nail's arm off, Vegeta crushing Burter's neck, Gero ripping that one driver's head off, Cell killing that one man who offers Piccolo money to save him, Spopovich beating on Videl (worst beatdown in the series imo), Spopovich's death, Buu punching Babidi's head off and Buu killing the guy who shot an old person with his buddy (Smitty I think he's called in the dub).
Tim Duncan is dope and forever.

Even though the blood is blue, the scene where Ginyu punches a hole through his chest is pretty painful looking, especially with the very detailed and well animated blood effects. What gets me is when he digs in deeper, and then has trouble pulling his hand back out.

Kunzait_83 wrote:Oh another obvious one: the gunmen's rampage in the Boo arc. The scene where they murder the elderly couple is one of the single sickest, grisly things in the whole series (a moment like that wouldn't be out of place in a grindhouse movie), the anime has additional scenes of them mass shooting their way through a town or two, all culminating with their shooting a puppy. Gotta love their nihilistic motivation for the killing spree too.

We can then add to the tally Super Boo's killing of the short, fat gunman via pouring himself down the guy's gullet until his entire torso grotesquely expands and bursts like a scene out of Monty Python's Meaning of Life.
Totally forgot about that. Yeah that was pretty horrible, and really really dark. The old guy even manages to crawl to his wife before he dies too.
