Drawing Male Human/Saiyan DBZ Characters Tutorial

Post by nobody231 » Tue Jul 05, 2016 11:47 pm

I have decided to make a quick tutorial for drawing DBZ characters. This topic will be about drawing male Saiyans and humans. The first post will be about the head, front view. Vegeta (Base) will be the example used in this tutorial.
Step 1:
Image

Draw two curved, parallel lines. Have the curves point up or down, depending on the angle of the face. Draw a vertical line through that. Then, make a triangle-like figure at the bottom, a trapezoid-like figure in the middle, and a semicircle-like figure at the top, using the lines as guidelines. These lines will be used to show where the facial features should be.

Step 2:
Image

Draw the facial features.
-The nose is sort-of like two triangles at the bottom, with a shared side, and a skinnier triangle off to a side, on top. The tip should be at the midpoint of the lower guideline, and the top should be in-between the midpoints of the guidelines.
-The eyes are like a trapezoid, but with a curved bottom. (I will make a seperate post for characters with eyes like Goku.) The eyebrows are like rectangular shapes with a sharp line at the ends at the middle of the face. The top of the eyebrows should match up with the top guideline. The bottom of the eyes should be slightly above the top of the nose.
-For angry or stern expressions, a frown will appear, kind of like a W with two lines underneath. It should be in-between the eyebrows. With an extreme frown, two lines, with the center curved down, should be between the frown and the top of the nose.
-The cheek bone is shown by a set of parallel lines that curves down near the nose. It is under the eyes.
-The mouth should be easy enough, and the chin line is shown with several parallel lines. The chin itself should be a little bit flat, instead of just a point from a triangle.

Step 3:
Image

Finish the face, and prepare for the hair. Ears are kind of hard to describe. They are between the tip of the nose and the top of the eyebrows. It's kind of like a triangle at the top, with a quadrilateral at the bottom. There will be lines to signify the ear detail, just look at my picture to get an idea. Also, start with the hairline for the characters. This will be different for every character, so look up some reference images to get an idea!

Step 4:
Image

Hair is extremely different for every character. All I can say is: Look up the images for that character. Eventually, you'll memorize that character's hairstyle. However, here are some tips for hair:

-For normal hair styles (non-spiky), draw many lines that are spread out in the hair, flowing in the direction that the hair goes. If the hair clumps, the lines should converge at the point that the hair clump ends. This creates the illusion of hair strands.
-For spiky hair, do the same thing, but draw less lines. Saiyans have their own rules for Super Saiyan hair:
-Super Saiyan has the same amount of lines as the normal hair.
-Super Saiyan 2 and above have many more lines, similarly to non-spiky hair.
I hope that this first post will be useful to someone. If people want more tutorials, they will come in a couple of weeks. Also, if my hotlinking breaks, please tell me, so I can fix this post. Many of my images break during hotlinking, for some reason.

I'm sorry, I won't make one until I finish up on Male Human/Saiyans. I want to keep consistancy.
