A bit more on episode 52
I really do wonder how long it will be until people give up on Gohan already. This seems to be exactly what I'm expecting. A lovely little episode between the two of them, but nothing that's supposed to suddenly make Gohan relevant. It's sounds more like some form of closure for Future Trunks and his relationship with Gohan. I think it's pretty clear he's done. He fits alongside Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, arguably Piccolo, Chaozu, Muten Roshi, and a plethora of other characters they don't really care much about utilizing anymore.
Trunks you could say is sorta like the direction they would have gone with Gohan if they gave a crap about him. Someone who isn't really into fighting, but does it because he wants to protect his world. Someone who is more about others, than satisfying his own needs and wants. Someone who's more about the well being of his family and friends, than another desire to be the best like Goku and Vegeta.

Piccolo had a role in the last arc so he is not finished yet.dbzfan7 wrote:A bit more on episode 52

That was basically Ultra Super Saiyan. Super powerful, but slow as hell. Super Saiyan 3 is basically a glass cannon. Hit hard and fast, and last for a few minutes.MCDaveG wrote:Really nice idea there, would love something more technical than raw power-ups which are making every previous form obsolete. Thanks for that ideaXeztin wrote:Yeah imagine the Super Saiyan forms being like Luffy's gears, that would be amazing. SSJ1 making your physical strength stronger (Buffer), SSJ2 being skinny and faster, SSJ 3 combining both etc..LightBing wrote: That would be pretty cool, it's a shame Dragon Ball never went in that direction. Unique SSJ forms for everyone, maybe one made you faster, other a tank, etc...
I hope Kid Trunks participates in this training, this arc is the perfect opportunity to develop the character. They've brought him into the spotlight a bit more, that's not enough. Although seeing him root for himself, when Trunks was fighting Goku makes me hopeful.
Dragon Ball focuses on being a Jack-of-All-Trades, which was why Goku chose to master Super Saiyan over using Utra Super Saiyan.

Came across this picture and wondered if it'll end up being a thing for real if Toriyama's comments were to mean anything. I was unsure if White hair would long too plain but it actually looks good with his clothing so I'd like it to be a thing.
Though maybe Silver would look better to go against the Gold of the regular form.

If they actually do a white form, they might as well go all the damn way eventually with a rainbow form.

I'm more interested in this episode because the script writer is the same one who wrote 22, 27 and 30... basically all of the episodes with the added developments. It'll be the big test to see if that stuff was written off as some are thinking.dbzfan7 wrote:A bit more on episode 52

I doubt that will happen. Check out this interview.precita wrote:My guess is kid Trunks will be pushed into the background and won't do anything for the entire arc. He's essentially been replaced by his older counterpart, and also with no Goten around either I doubt we'll be seeing anything happen with him.
Kid Trunks is going to be the next screwed over character of the show.

I've taken that to mean the kid Trunks will mature in a bit in this arc.On the other hand, kid Trunks is a spirited kid who grew up spoiled. I wondered how a kid like that would feel meeting his future self? That’s not something you normally could imagine or experience, right? That’s why, in his own childish way, kid Trunks is a bit guarded, feeling wary and even competitive… I think this agitation distances him from future Trunks.
Also, since kid Trunks is still just a boy, I thought it’d be good to also portray him as growing up bit by bit. Well, I guess I’ve given the game away (laughs).

I know this is an old discussion, but after all this time, why is Trunks still a kid?
Maybe he'll get a sudden growth spurt by the start of next arc.

That's pretty interesting. I didn't know that. I still wouldn't hold my breath, but that at least adds maybe....1% chance to something that's more than just a good boost for Trunks.Kagari wrote:I'm more interested in this episode because the script writer is the same one who wrote 22, 27 and 30... basically all of the episodes with the added developments. Trunks also meets Gohan at an academic conference. So some nerd moments for Gohan for his cameo.dbzfan7 wrote:A bit more on episode 52

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I really wonder what they are trying to do with Gohan, I mean, they obviously remember he is there and in the Resurrection F arc he said he would train again, but we have barely seen him since then, maybe Akira alredy has plans for him because I'm pretty sure he knows how powerful he can be, unlike the rest, It's a shame they forgot about the other Z warriors, especially Goten and Trunks, they have big potential but in each arc they put the excuse that they are just kids and they don't even appear in the series anymore. If they fight, they do it as Gotenks and never fight individually.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
let's all be honest , though i suspect people will defend anything Toriyama related but Toriyama is the worst shonen author when it comes to character utilization , the entire cast( except Goku and Vegeta) are irrelevant and have become basically padding commentators not to mention having lazy transformations to make the main relevant characters stronger referring to ssb transformation happening quickly they should have utilized ssg form extensively.

The training bit was added by Toei and it seems like episode 52 could be the same.Alee9977 wrote:I really wonder what they are trying to do with Gohan, I mean, they obviously remember he is there and in the Resurrection F arc he said he would train again, but we have barely seen him since then, maybe Akira alredy has plans for him because I'm pretty sure he knows how powerful he can be, unlike the rest, It's a shame they forgot about the other Z warriors, especially Goten and Trunks, they have big potential but in each arc they put the excuse that they are just kids and they don't even appear in the series anymore. It was definitely added in by Toei. It wasn't in the manga at all. Maybe they added it in because they knew something about his future that we don't but I think it's obvious it's a toei addition.ArchedThunder wrote:You don't know that.namekiansaiyan wrote:

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

And the manga completely skipped the Reserrection 'F' Saga. So using the manga as a basics is highly flawed.kinisking wrote:It was definitely added in by Toei. It wasn't in the manga at all. No it isn't, because even after ROF we had a scene where Gohan and Pic were training. Completely different than the manga.HeroR wrote:And the manga completely skipped the Reserrection 'F' Saga. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I really think what's happening is that Gohan's story is pretty much seen as finished by Toriyama and he doesn't have much of a role for him, but some Toei writers want to give some fanservice to Gohan fans, thus the bit about him training again. However, they obviously won't go against Toriyama's outline. So, even if that training isn't forgotten, it'll be irrelevant and Gohan won't play a role in the story that would need that training in order to make sense.Alee9977 wrote:I really wonder what they are trying to do with Gohan, I mean, they obviously remember he is there and in the Resurrection F arc he said he would train again, but we have barely seen him since then, maybe Akira alredy has plans for him because I'm pretty sure he knows how powerful he can be, unlike the rest, It's a shame they forgot about the other Z warriors, especially Goten and Trunks, they have big potential but in each arc they put the excuse that they are just kids and they don't even appear in the series anymore. Both the manga and anime had the line where Goku says that Gohan became a bookworm and isn't training anymore, so that seems to have come straight from Toriyama. The anime then immediately afterwards adds that scene where it's revealed that he's training, but then he can't go to the tournament anyway due to the conference. It just seems very awkward and its lack of presence or reference in the manga makes it seem like the later scene was a Toei addition. There's also Toriyama's and Toyotaro's interview, where they talked like Gohan becoming a scholar was pretty much the ending of his story, with no references to his return to training after Revival F.ArchedThunder wrote:You don't know that.namekiansaiyan wrote:
