Do you feel weird watching Mai's scenes in Dragonball now?

And knowing that this character:

Would make a return decades later and be shipped with Bulma's kid when Bulma is the same age she is?

Not to mention Mai was a bumbling lackey for a comic relief villain, and she came back from irrelevancy to be a major part of the current plot?

She's not the same age as Bulma. Pilaf (accidentally) used the Dragon Balls to wish for youth on his gang. She became a kid again (a kid is younger than Bulma) and grew up from there.

Not really. I guess one could take issue with her technical age but physically she's around the same as him so I figured that it doesn't bother others either. I have this feeling however that if it was gender bent and say Pilaf was with...Pan, then you would have an issue with the older guy-younger girl dynamic.

I don't really feel weirded out, Trunks was just explaining what happened to her in the future right? The Mai thing really doesn't bother me, I sorta like her future version, seem's alright. Though I guess you could say those scenes in the future was heart warming, I really don't pay close attention to love interest in the series for some reason. I was more intrigued by that trail of flames Black left in the latest episode with that music playing in the background, they really done a good job on that scene with the destruction reflecting on his ear ring like a mirror. I will say that I am not fond of Pilaf plotting world domination every chance he gets, I mean he should know by now unless he get's the Dragon Ball's it'll never happen with people like Goku and Black running around. It get's hinted at so much that sometimes I think Pilaf will steal a wish from the Super Balls and become a major villain in the series at some point.

Firstly, isn't she older than Bulma? I can't see a 16 year old being a spy/assassin/thief/whatever she is for Pilaf.

According to Battle of Gods, Mai is 5 years younger than Bulma at the start of Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

I'm sorry, what? What does that mean? Does that mean that at the beginning of Dragon Ball, Mai is 11? Or does that mean that Mai is supposed to be 11 when wished to be young? I'm going to assume the latter. Anyway, what's her physical age in Super have to do with having known the character as one way throughout Dragon Ball and having her completely overhauled in Super? Is her physical age the only thing that would make one feel weird watching Mai's scenes in Dragon Ball?

In the BoG movie Mai say that she's 41, despite bulma saying that she's 36(or 38? I dont remember) according to timeline Bulma should be 45 at that time (probably as a vain woman she lied about her age).

lol Mai being 12 during Dragon Ball is too silly of a thought. I'll just pretend that it never happened.

No, no. Mai was not 12 years old in Dragon Ball. Come on. It's one thing to come up with an unrealistic story, it's another to retroactively create such a crack-headed statement.

Nah. Never really cared that much for her as a character, but I will say it's actually kind of nice to see one of the original and first Dragon Ball characters antagonists is returning to prominence with the new material. It could have been handled better, with much less obvious shipping, but, whatever.

I agree. Sometimes I feel that Toriyama just did away with the older characters. The shipping thing isn't what I would have in mind were I him but whatever works I guess.

Not really, no. In fact, I've actually been watching the first series again recently (slowly so far though, I'm only 7 episodes in), and it's actually just made it all come together all the better in my head. I still find it funny that she's so prudish even after all these years to find holding hands to be like this really, really, really intimate thing, and I still find her and Trunks to be adorable in the strangest of ways. It's Dragon Ball, the romances, what there are of them, have never been particularly savory anyway.

More like Toriyama forgot about how old Bulma's supposed to be, but figured Mai was at least 3 years older than her, so if Bulma is 38 in BoG, then Mai is 41. If Bulma is 16 in the first arc, then Mai is 19.

That sounds believable. Really wish he had been keeping track of ages.

I kinda feel like this whole Mai X Trunks thing is proof that Toriyama wasn't kidding when he said he had no idea how to write a romantic subplot and always just skipped ahead.
