Canonical Dragon Ball Spin-offs
I hope this is the right forum/section.
What if Toei did spin offs that could literally take place but they're small fun side stories. Like a small arc of Gohan being nothing but awesome and adventures in space for some reason.
Would this be something you'd be interested?

13 episode Great Saiyaman series with nothing but Gohan foiling crime and being a superhero. Toei make it now.

I thought that it would be really interesting to get some spin-offs. Isn't Jaco basically that? Interesting ones I thought about were: the adventures of Son Gohan and Gyumao as they trained under Muten Roshi, an alternate world where Goku was never found by Son Gohan and just naturally became good (he would meet all of the characters we know and love but under different circumstances), a future Trunks one during Majin Boo times and further.

I'd love to see spin-offs of characters who never really got that much depth in the back story such as Tien, Yamcha, Mr Satan, 17 and 18. Plus, maybe more lore provided on the world of Dragon Ball before Goku arrived.

A Ginyu Force spin off would be a big must have for me!

This. They should take characters that aren't used or focused on and just have them as a group of some sort with villains that they can handle.Lord Beerus wrote:I'd love to see spin-offs of characters who never really got that much depth in the back story such as Tien, Yamcha, Mr Satan, 17 and 18. I would love to see a spin off of Goku's training in the other world and what trials and barriers he had to overcome to unlock Super Saiyan 3.

Re: Canonical Dragon Ball Spin-offs
Mine remains the same as always: prequel starting with the journeys of the nameless Namekian/child of Katatsu that leads to him ascending to the throne of Kami and splitting off into Daimao, following then into the adventures of young Muten Roshi and ending with his getting older and taking on a young Son Gohan and Gyuumao under his wing as students.
There's a LOT of already established and fairly rich backstory material there to serve as key elements to make a pretty well fleshed out "Dragon Ball before Dragon Ball" series.

Or fighting an actual, legitimate supervillain: something that the Great Saiyaman stuff was always noticeably missing.precita wrote:13 episode Great Saiyaman series with nothing but Gohan foiling crime and being a superhero. Toei make it now.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Preferably a Lex Luthor or Riddler type enemy, one his vast raw power wouldn't do much immediate good against.Kunzait_83 wrote:Or fighting an actual, legitimate supervillain: something that the Great Saiyaman stuff was always noticeably missing.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Out of all spin-off possibilities, you pick Goku? lolSaiyanGod117 wrote:I would love to see a spin off of Goku's training in the other world and what trials and barriers he had to overcome to unlock Super Saiyan 3.

Mods, it's really nice you put in the work and tweak in some nice detailed. But why did you add more uppercase's and hyphens to the title? Wasn't my lazy style e enough lol

Re: Canonical Dragon Ball Spin-offs
Personally I'd like to see TOEI make a slice-of-life series with all the characters we know and love to test the waters, then do spin-off series for individual characters if that's a success.

Re: Canonical Dragon Ball Spin-offs
I wouldn't mind that but instead of getting one spin off, the show could tell different ones every few episodes by jumping through time and between characters.
It also wouldn't have one set tone but instead switch depending on the story, for example the 1st 5 episodes could be a fun Roshi spin off while the 2nd one could be about Tien being trained by Tao which would be darker than Roshi's.
We could also get a spin off about how Freeza became the universe's ruler or how Vegeta, Nappa & Raditz dealt with losing their planet.
Spin offs that explore characters are a great way to expand the lore without coming up with completely new stories but Roshi and Tien don't sell toys so the chances of this happening are below 0.

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Re: Canonical Dragon Ball Spin-offs
True, but they could always dedicate several episodes to characters that do sell toys, and then a few less but still a significant amount for minor characters. For example do 5 episodes about Vegeta, or even Bardock and then 3 about Roshi or Tien.
The Frieza spinoff sounds good, I'd watch the hell out of that, even if its just to get more Nakao or Ayres for the sub and dub respectively.
TOEI, if you are reading this (unlikely but one can dream right?) Dragon Ball Chronicles, make it happen

Vegeta looking for Goku post namek, and training in space before androids. Best filler we got tbh.
