So we're going by the anime?

Finding your child unconscious would be horrible, but she shows ZERO concern for her husband and jumps straight to the asinine conclusion that Goku is responsible despite having been dead for a year! The anime plays up Bulma and Chichi's negative traits, but this happened in the manga. And I have no idea what you mean by "I also bet you see her constant self-absorbed pity-party on Namek is her pent-up frustration from being oppressed." You clearly don't know me and stop betting because you're constantly off the mark. All the examples of Bulma flirting with other guys were jokes. She didn't "plan" to leave Yamcha for anyone. And I never backpedaled, you misunderstood. I said she thinks she understands love, but she doesn't.
It wasn't so much she wanted to but felt obligated to since he kicked her "there".
No, she didn't feel obligated. Look at her face. And what is love more complicated than?
We already talked about the mistake so I don't need to explain that to you.
You will because I don't remember.
Having a character who was committed in meeting Miss. Right then suddenly isn't for the shake having Bulma fall into Vegeta's arms is definitely a retcon.
That's not a retcon and when was he committed to finding miss right? Last point, just because someone wants to get married doesn't guarantee fidelity.

Damn, I didn't mean to start a Bulma vs Chichi battle lol But yes, I find Chichi less annoying simply because I didn't start a tally of the pros and cons for both characters. Chichi simply doesn't bother me as much. She seems like any sane, rational person. While I'm sure you'd be all for your five year old fighting genocidal aliens, most people wouldn't.

You act like Chichi knew that her 5 year old was powerful. To her, he was an innocent child who would've gotten killed in an instant. All he did was stand there and cower... and get annihilated by Nappa. Then when Gohan was fighting Vegeta, she was rooting for him.

Then she didn't want her five year old -- who she hasn't seen in a year mind you -- to go off into space to get the Dragon Balls. It's not like anyone needed Gohan to go. Gohan just volunteered because hey, why not? I guess Chichi is such a bitch for having a problem with that. And it's not like anyone knew that there would be fighting there; it was just a leisurely trip like going to the store for 4 months. Was Chichi supposed to be okay with that?

Then, Gohan was back home from Namek and yes, it's time to finally be a normal kid unlike his father, so she made him study. What the problem be?

Chichi was cool ever since, basically. Gohan's ability to really lend a hand was no longer in question, so she let him train to fight the Cyborgs. Of course she worried about Gohan, but she knew that he could really lend a hand and make a difference so she never tried to stop him. She thought he was a delinquent because he "dyed his hair blond," but it's not like she knew what happened to him. Chichi was good ever since. She had no problems with Gohan fighting in the Tenkaichi Budokai and trained Goten.

You keep bringing up how Chichi didn't know what love was. So what? What's that have to do with a character's annoying traits? Did Bulma know what love was with Vegeta? Does any of their interaction ever show love to you? Remember when they asked Bulma where Vegeta was when waiting for the Cyborgs? What was it that Bulma said? "Oh, my darling husband will be here shortly; why, he's preparing himself!" Yeah right. She didn't even know where he was, nor did she seem to particularly care.

Oh and by the way, we want to talk about parenting? While Chichi was overprotective of her son, Bulma took her INFANT son to a battlefield. I understand that she thinks everyone will stop what they're doing to save her (which is the only reason she lived past the first chapter of Dragon Ball), but who does that? She a terrible mother. Cooing to your kid while carrying him in the middle of a war zone that you voluntarily entered isn't being a good parent.

Chichi had a valid reason for every yell she made in the series, whereas Bulma just never stops. She's verbally abusive to Kuririn, Yamucha, to Goku all throughout Dragon Ball, and it's just a real buzzkill. And as I said, what makes Chichi more tolerable is that she's a legitimate background character. Most of her interactions are with background characters. Bulma is featured front and center for a lot of Dragon Ball and the Namek arc, making it just too much to handle for me anyway.

I think Bulma built up a lot of good will because she's an original character of DB going back to the very beginning and that's fine. That or people go gaga over the three topless panels in the manga, the constant art of her in a bikini and all that nonsense, but that doesn't have any effect on me. I don't think she's "hot" because she's not a real person and even if she were, that personality is the kiss of death. I might be wrong, but if Bulma want so prominently featured as fan service, there might be a different opinion of her.

My rank for most likeable females in DBZ (to be particular)

1. No. 18
2. Videl
3. Chichi
4. Pan
5. Maron (Kuririn's daughter)
6. Bulma
7. Maron (Kuririn's ex)
8. Bra (just throwing her in here; she was the most useless thing in the series; but she created a buzz... strong enough to earn her that wonderful role in GT.)

I'm not trying to be smartassy or cute or funny. That's my legitimate list. I liked Maron -- Kuririn's daughter -- more than Bulma. I mean she's just a sweet kid. As for the slutty version of Bulma, I couldn't stand her character either, so she ranks below Bulma for me.

18 is interesting, but she's not likeable.

I never claimed Bulma was a great person, just that she doesn't. And Chichi isn't normal, everything about her character is exaggerated, as is everyone else in the Dragon Ball world. She's a tiger mom and I hate those people in real life.

I keep bringing up Chichi not knowing what love is for a very simple reason, Goku isn't the problem in his family. Chichi holds equal amounts of the blame for whatever issues they have because of their flimsy reasons for getting married in the first place. She and some fans complain that he does nothing for them, but she went into the relationship without knowing him so how can she honestly claim he's the problem?
Chichi had a valid reason for every yell she made in the series, whereas Bulma just never stops.
No she absolutely doesn't. She makes mountains out of molehills. Gohan doesn't study? No shit, he's FOUR!

I am not a fan of Chichi and am thankful that she was mostly a background character because I couldn't take much more of her. She contributes nothing to the story beyond being a mother to Gohan and Goten. She's mostly comic relief but not funny comedy.

@TheGreatness25: I'd like to add Gohan felt compelled to visit Namek because he felt somewhat guilty for Piccolo's sacrifice. In his mind, his master didn't have to die had he been braver in the encounter. Of course, he shortly proved his mettle after the fact when he returned to help his father. Still, contributing to his revival and the other warriors was supposed to be his way of being appreciative and proving his growth from the experience. In other words, he was making up for inaction that he believed made everything worse than it could have been. I don't think he traveled along simply because the script dictated so.

Which is one of the reasons I like that era of the series.

I meant that on Chichi's eyes, there was no reason for him to go.

I mean I see how you thought that lol But really, the whole thing from Chichi's point of view makes sense.

Sure... But my point is that Chichi is justified in her reactions. Oh what's that? He wants to bring back the monster who tried to kill her husband... did kill her husband, and kidnapped her son. Her reactions are justified whereas Bulma is just a bitch for the sake of it.

You've picked the one time where she had a point. That's cherry picking. Let's not forget that she wants Gohan to study more than she cares about the safety of the world (or her husband), she agreed to marry a guy because he felt obligated to after a mistakenly made promise, doesn't really care about Gohan's happiness, she wants him to study, dislikes fighters after a certain point despite being a martial artist herself, being raised by one, and having been around it her whole life. Oh, and all she wants is for Gohan to study. I keep saying it because it's damn obnoxious and no, that isn't rational it's actually quite harmful.

Bulma on the other hand created the Dragon Radar, fixed Kami's ship to allow her, Gohan, and Kuririn to reach Namek, and called Goku out on not stopping the Cyborgs.

18 set out to MURDER Goku just because. She had no reason to want to and even rebelled against the man who programmed her with that purpose. So how does that make her likeable?

For Bluma, you seem to be focusing more on her actions rather than him disliking her personality. That seems to be the heart of his argument. In the reverse, he's using Chi-Chi's actions to describe her as reasonable in certain situations, but I don't see anyone taking away her negative qualities. Maybe he does find her personality awful, as well? The main point he seems to be driving at is that he rather deal with one than the other.

Fair enough. I'd much rather deal with Bulma. I can take someone being a tad rude if they contribute than deal with someone overly emotional who is good for nothing. Bulma is also reasonable plenty of times. Case in point, when she points out how they should prevent the Cyborgs from being activated.

Bulma has always been a ball buster, I'm not sure what changed for you if you stopped liking her now.

Well her character did change after she had Trunks. Then she was all, "Look at me, I'm a mom! Tra-la-la... Kuririn, you idiot! Vegeta, you dolt! Roshi, you old perv! Look... at my baby!" But I generally never liked her.

Wow, I didn't think my thread would get like this.

But people are looking at Bulma in general. I thought she became annoying after she got with Vegeta and had Trunks.

That part is a mystery that I don't think will be resolved or seen, so that could be troublesome. But I think that marriage and more importantly child-rearing should have calmed her down and maybe reduce her meanness towards others.

I find Bulma annoying not in how she treats her enemies, but how she treats her friends. I don't mind her abusing Master Roshi since he's a pervert, but I do mind her blackmailing Yamcha into rubbing her feet in return for providing a means to stop the Androids. The two situations are fairly different: one is comical and involves both parties messing with each other, the other is serious and comes off as mean-spirited.

I think it's one of those things from the early years of DB that slowly loses its appeal as time goes on.

Her character has been pretty consistent throughout the various arcs and series. And actually, I think she's the only major character that Super hasn't ruined yet.
