Lack of any marketing seems to suggest otherwise. It's likely gonna be a sweet, somewhat funny episode, that unfortunately some people will take as a set up episode. It seems to merely be a closure for Trunks episode. It's not really closure for Gohan as he's been dead for some time, with red herrings.Alruneia wrote:Or Gohan's resolve from the Resurrection F saga actually stays in and he explains to Future Trunks how he's working on becoming stronger so that he can protect Videl and Pan. To be fair, Gohan did have a super important lecture or something much more serious than some fluff tournament, that would not put his family at danger at all. And then Black is only affected the future really, Gohan might be having another super important lecture coming up we don't know (yet), I can imagine life of a scholar being quite relentless.MozillaVulpix wrote:There's no indication so far from previews and promotional material that Gohan is going to play a role in this arc. If he's not going to play a role in this arc, this episode will be dedicated to explaining why. Plus, this is one of the last times they can realistically use the "He started training after RF" plotline and still have people remember it, considering it lead to absolutely nothing in Universe 6.Kagari wrote:I'm still wondering where this whole "he's going to retire" narrative is coming from because I definitely didn't get that from the episode preview.Krillin1994 wrote:Can this forum make polls? because I'd really like to see who thinks Gohan will be retired from this arc with this episode and those who feel he will regain his resolve.

RIP Gohan as a fighter. it's almost undeniable after that. It looks like Piccolo is also retired and is now Bulma's slave. Both my favorites are done fighting( most likely for the long haul).

Gohan doesn't know what's happening though.
Chances that he finds out about Goku Black from somebody else, and feels humiliated Trunks didn't tell him?

The episode established that tidbit for the sake of keeping him off-screen. No different than this mystery conference during the Uni 6 arc.Krillin1994 wrote:Gohan doesn't know what's happening though.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Should we have a memorial service? Hopefully it won't effect your enjoyment of Super too much.Beyond wrote:RIP Gohan as a fighter. it's almost undeniable after that. It looks like Piccolo is also retired and is now Bulma's slave. Both my favorites are done fighting( most likely for the long haul).

I can't believe you were all right.
Super is slowly turning me into a perpetually-bitter cynic.

I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

It's ok. You'll learn to stop caring about Gohan as now he'll be gone for the rest of the arc most likely.MozillaVulpix wrote:I can't believe you were all right.

To be fair, we know Dragon ball has to make cool characters irrelevant, and all the non saiyans were already invalidated. It only stands to reason this would happen.
Re: Forget about Gohan, what remains are only memories
I honestly don't care much what they did with Gohan. From the start they made it clear he doesn't like fighting and he wants to make something more of his life, I'm surprised if anything that people have been expecting so much from him.
It is unfortunate though that they had the tease of him being retrained by Piccolo when it will likely come to nothing. I suppose that's the problem with the way this series is being written based on a plotline instead of a weekly series.
Who knows maybe they will do something with him but really he should just be left alone.
Keep Trunks in the present timeline and have him as a replacement.

Re: Forget about Gohan, what remains are only memories
They should find a way, he's a hugely popular character and he'd be a shame for him to just disappear out of the story again once the arc is over. He should stay as a permanent main character especially now that Gohan is being written out if it and all the other Z Fighters outside of Goku and Vegeta are weak.Beyond wrote:Not going to happen unless they blow up his earth and leave him no choice.Bullza wrote: Keep Trunks in the present timeline and have him as a replacement.
Re: Forget about Gohan, what remains are only memories
Should be glad Gohan at least got the Kimberly treatment. Could have been worse, could have got the Zack, Trini, and Jason treatment. He got a nice send off, despite that the underlying point of the episode, was to write off the character. It had the purpose to motivate Trunks, and write off Gohan by telling us what he'll be doing from now on, off screen.

You can probably add cyborg enhancements to that. Using tech to turn average teens stronger than legendary warriors may be the biggest ass pull in the show, though most of Piccolo's power gains can compete along with Namek arc zenkais.Krillin1994 wrote:Ass pull power ups....

I'm unsure if I've missed anything out.

Trunks represents the fans who expected Super to be as good as the original.
Videl represents the the fanboys who think Super is god's gift to the world.
MR.Satan represents the new fans who are questioning how the original got so popular if this is all it had to offer.
I wish they were even half as developed and cool as Gon and Killua from HxH. I actually thought they were really cool characters in the World Martial Arts tournament filler, when they were fighting each other. Was getting really getting strong Goku vs. Krillin vibes from that one. But it was all down hill from there. I never really liked Gotenks and the show ultimately did nothing with the concept other than it being a fun little diversion. And now they continue to be mostly one note characters, though at least they're getting some (bare minimum) development. Goten now has studies and Trunks has his new friends and this business with F. Trunks. None of its compelling, but it's something I suppose.precita wrote:Gohan at least has a very likely chance to be used again.

Re: Forget about Gohan, what remains are only memories
I haven't seen the episode yet but judging from the reviews and all the comments here, its safe to say what I predicted of Gohan has come true for the most part. Like I said, I don't have a problem with how Gohan's character went. It's been going this way ever since we were introduced to Gohan at the age of 18. Now as an adult, we finally see him put off his gi for good, and enjoy the peaceful life. (He couldn't even find his gi when he went to fight Frieza. Even Krillin was able to find his gi to fight Frieza, a guy who has officially said he given up on martial arts!) If you remove that bit about Gohan asking Piccolo to train him, all signs, and I mean "all" signs, pointed to him not caring about fighting or training ever again. That's the only problem I have, in they hyped Gohan up with that training with Piccolo bit. The manga didn't have that scene, which at the time was ahead of the anime.
All that said, here is what I can pretty much guarantee concerning Gohan's character. He will most certainly not play any role in this Goku Black arc. Mainly because the arrows are pointing for Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, and perhaps even Bulma to travel into the future to take on Black. I also suspect that Beerus and Whis will travel into the future. (I believe Bulma will add to the time machine and make it bigger for all of them to travel.) I seriously doubt Gohan will tag along with them. Unless Videl and Pan are hopping into the time machine as well, he is likely staying in the present timeline. After this, you still have the omni universal tournament. It's likely Gohan will participate here, for a couple of reasons. One, it's shown he would have joined in the universe 6 tournament if it were not for his conference. I doubt there will be another conference when this tournament begins, and thus he will make up for his previous absence. Two, ever since the reintroduction of the "tournament" concept in Dragon Ball Z (The one where Gohan was 18), its been seen as a family event if you would. Even the previous tournament with the U6 fighters, the Dragon Ball family gathered to cheer on Goku and the others. Well with that in mind, I can see the entire family, those who can fight, getting in on this next tournament. That will include Gohan. I imagine this will be his last hoorah.
I'm hoping for a time skip so Pan can participate. DBS is really hinting that Pan will be the next big thing in the series. All you Gohan fans need to put your hopes in Pan. I keep trying to tell you guys this haha!

Re: Forget about Gohan, what remains are only memories
Pan is the same as Goten and Trunks. They also had their debut be them being amazing. Super strong that they give the adults trouble. Already Super Saiyans. Fusing into a Super dude. Then nothing really came of it. Pan isn't going to be anything. That would mean aging people up, which they don't seem to want to, and they wouldn't give her billing anywhere near Goku and Vegeta. It's very clear the focus is on them, and is going to strictly remain on them. No one really doubted that. She is the cute funny stress relief character. Her job is to be adorable, and and put other people in wacky situations. Even when growing up the focus was hinted towards Oob, and not her. She's left behind over those 5 years while Goku spends his time with Oob.
Gohan fans shouldn't be looking into Pan. That's silly. They should be looking into Future Trunks, who essentially is exactly what people wanted from Gohan. Not the tragedy part. They wanted someone who fights to protect his family and others, over being a meat head. Someone who is no nonsense and learned from his past mistakes of messing around. Future Trunks is exactly that. He has the motivation people want Gohan to have, and the attitude they want him to have. Fighting out of necessity, but still being prepared for the worst. He and his mom after years of no Cyborg threat could have just had a time machine on standby for Vegeta and Gohan if they needed help, but instead he took responsibility into his own hands.
