Nope, he's been working on Super since episode 36.

I had naively assumed the on-model parts were Miyako Tsuji taking a bigger role as the chief supervisor, but now that we know what Higashide's work looks like, it's obvious it was him.

I definitely need to rematch episode 36, but was the Final Flash done by Shimanuki or Higashide? Vegeta's expression kinda looks like Higashide's. Well, the actual beam being fired looked like Shimanuki, but the charging leading up to that looked more like Higashide.

Most of the Final Flash was Shimanuki, but there are a few Higashide close-ups. Higashide did the Gallick Cannon all by himself, though.

Ah okay, I can definitely see that. Man, I'll need to re-watch the episodes he's been in. He's probably one of the most recognizable key animators we've had.

Those Masaki Sato drawings are just breaking my brain, man. That motherfucker is TALENTED, and now I see the reason why the Maeda Minoru episodes started getting even better during the 22nd Tournament arc, which is when he first joined the show.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's no surprise he became the character designer of Slam Dunk, either.

I'm not sure he'll ever return to the franchise as an animator or designer, but his fan art has been a lot of fun to see come around. It's certainly nice to see these in comparison to the key visuals that Yamamuro Tadayoshi has been churning out for the last decade-plus.

Herms status on twitter about ROF airing on august in Fuji TV alongsie with a Future Trunks tv special, imagine this could be a new story and where Shida could actually be working in, but hey I'm dreaming too much and it could be the old Z tv special of Future Trunks and Gohan https://twitter.com/Herms98/status/755269315943739392

I hope they start doing more things similar to reshowing old movies to help clear up Super's schedule a little more.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is the difference between Yamamuro's character designs in Super and the character designs at the end of DBZ?? Anybody would like to illustrate me with images?? I would appreciate it!! Because it seems to me that Super's models look almost the same as Boo arc Z and DBGT to me. The only difference i encounter is that now it's harder to draw on model because of the harsh schedule.

Probably easier to explain with images, I guess.

Yamamuro then:

Yamamuro now:

Yamamuro's work is incredibly bubbly and disproportionate these days. The hair is detailed in a way that makes it look unnatural -- almost detached like a lego's hair -- and the stiff line work doesn't help. Faces are now significantly shorter, with stiffer eyes and rounded noses, and the shading is now a simple straight line up the face rather than an indent that defines the face -- this makes everyone look rounder and bubbly. Vegeta has a giant head and Goku's face is too wide (the same goes for many others) -- I just want to pull everyone's faces down. The jawline used to be much shorter on many characters, whereas now it extends very far out, which is one of the main causes for the giant faces. The eyes no longer arch so the current iterations never look expressive when they need to. The chest muscles no longer make much sense. Noses that were once defined from all angles are now just strange shapes that look likes gaping holes in the middle of faces. Piccolo's antennae sit far too high up on his head, so they can't be used in conjunction with this eyebrows anymore to create really cool expressions. The list goes on...

His designs are just so bad. They're ugly. There is nothing charismatic about them. They look like drawings of lifeless figurines, and his promo art lately only makes things worse with how horribly uninspired it all is. Animators on projects under him can't even break the mold since his draconian approach to supervision means he will redraw all of your work if he feels like it. It sucks.

Don't even get me started on his ability to animate compared to how high up he is within the company...

I doubt it's the old special don't they only have a two hour slot?

How can Yamamuro be so bad today ? The RoF storyboard has some good drawing from him, some even better than the final movie don't you think ?

And what about his recent Black Goku figure sheet ?
Image
It's surely not as good as his old artwork but are they that bad ? At least Black doesn't look like Dexter Morgan unlike some of his recent Goku art.

I understand why his today art are bad.
I miss the badass chin that "goes backwards" as on Gogeta here
Image
but I don't understand how he has became that bad.

It still suffers from the same issues. For someone so evil, it's pretty silly that a Goku drawing from the 90s looks fiercer. Consider how terrifying Majin Vegeta was at the tournament. Black is bland.

One of the only recent Yamamuro designs I really like is his new scientist Bulma one. It's great.

Wow, the model for Gokuu Black was finished on 17 May 2016. That means that Episode #47, which aired 12 June 2016, had only twenty-six days for animation production. Jesus.

Even so, they only revealed Black's identity on the frame stills for a brief 30 seconds of the entire Episode #47. What they would have suffered is Episode #48.

Yep, but Mai was also present and you can read the same date as for Black:

The blurry picture came from a "Dragon Ball Super - Polska" Facebook page, while the other came from Kaiser Neko on Twitter

Geez, the schedule is messed up. Looks like there's no redemption for Dragon Ball Super for a long time.

Its also 2016/05/17 for #48. This is getting more confusing. But I still wonder how they improved the animation. I mean it hasn't been outstanding yet but still has been a considerable upgrade over what we had. We need more details regarding this. Its still to early to jump to any conclusions IMO.

Is this one week forced break going to help production, even if only a little bit?
