I've got what you want. Season One in 4:3

Post by SkitzZero » Sat Mar 03, 2007 6:10 pm

The "Season One" English dub with a 4:3 aspect ratio (using DragonBox footage). The 5.1 mix has also been truly remixed to make the music a bit more prominent in the overall dub.

This is just a small YouTube-quality preview of the project I've been working on...

You did a pretty good job. I can't get pioneer's release out of my head though (concerning the dub).

Well done, really well done.

I'd say I prefer having the Japanese audio track instead and subtitles, but that would pretty much make it a b-word.

That was 100% on the mark. And why can't FUNi hire this guy instead of the morons they have making these stupid box sets?

By the way dude, I think it be better if the subtitle for the title card be under the Japanese text.

While louder music is a good thing, I think you should try to balance it a bit better. I can barely hear the voices on my laptop.

I turned the music up to an exaggerated level for the preview clip only.. just so the difference could be clearly heard.

First and foremost I am making this for myself. The only way I can legally (to my knowledge) make this available to others, is if the person owns the episodes in both FUNimation's Season set and Toei's Dragon Box. This way I am not providing the person with any new copyrighted material that he or she does not already own. It's similar to being able to own ROMs and backups of video games that you already own. Same goes with owning MP3s of CDs you own. So until I'm told I cannot do this by someone with reputable knowledge of the law, I will continue with this project. I do not intend to make any profit off of this.

The DRAGONBALL Z REMASTERED project features the following:

- 4:3 remastered video provided directly from Toei's Dragon Box releases.
- 5.1 surround sound audio track from FUNimation's Season set releases.
- Remix of the 5.1 audio track to have higher output for the Japanese BGM. In addition, missing BGM will be reinserted wherever possible.
- The Dragon Box audio track w/ English subtitles.
* The TV Broadcast track will not be included.

In the mean time...

Thank you for the kind words, everyone.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to combine Funimation's new dub with the Dragonbox footage. Kudos. 8)

I think the voices should be turned down a bit so they don't overpower the BGM, which they're doing here, in my opinion. It always sounds like the voice-overs are way too loud in the English dubs. But you did a nice job nonetheless SkitzZero.

A suggestion is to possibly remove certian parts of the dialouge. A lot of what is being said by the narrator in the preview part is basically DBZ's version of "blahblahblahblahblah", so maybe if you could splice in the original JP silent parts for those bits, so you'd have a bit less of monster-truck action going on, it'd make for a much better experience (aswell as removing off-the-side banter).

I'm pretty sure that the whole ROM backup thing is a total lie, but whatever. My question is; what if someone owns one of the two DVD sets you mentioned?

Then technically speaking, they can only back up one of the sources, because they do not legally own the other.

I can't speak for Skitz, but my guess is he'll only give copies out to those who own copies of both the season sets and the Dragonbox sets or singles, as he's pointed out. Personally, I think that's a wise move on his part. Whoever he gives these copies to has already spent money on the content within (Dragonbox footage w/t JP audio from the Dragonboxes and the new 5.1 dub track w/t Daimao's subs from the season sets), so it isn't like who gets these sets hasn't paid their dues to the proper releases. And hell, he isn't making a profit from this, so that's a nice plus showing he isn't distributing bootlegs.

Best of luck on this, Skitz. Personally, I won't be eligible for a copy because I don't intend to buy any of the Dragonboxes or its singles, but I'm fine with that and glad you're being very proper and moral with the handling of this. To those that are buying all Dragonbox sets/singles and the season sets, have a ball with this work of his.

Dragon Box footage? Dragon Box audio with English subtitles? I need this. Now.

Best of luck to you and your endeavor. If nothing else, this may prove to FUNi just how resourceful and clever the fans really are, and how much we disapprove of this bullshit set they've put out.

Well, I think first you'll have to shell out money for the Dragonboxes and (yes) the FUNi Season Sets before Skitz'll even consider making a copy for you. And he's already said, he's not aiming to make a profit off of these, so it doesn't seem right to say you want to buy them from him. You're making it sound like he's shamelessly bootlegging... :?
