Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Someone explain to me what the separate ratings are? Whats the difference and why do the ratings vary a lot for some episodes?
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
You have Terrestrial, the normal channels, and Satellite, the special channels(Yes, Japanese still use Satellite instead of Cable).nakapawa wrote:Someone explain to me what the separate ratings are? Whats the difference and why do the ratings vary a lot for some episodes?
You have Record Reservation, recording the episode into a memory space, normally the record Box disk space, but you can also put into an external hard disk or a Pen. And Viewing(same thing to time-shift), where you make you record Box go back in time and show on TV a program that already aired before.
With those 4 things you have:
- Terrestrial Record Reservation.
- Satellite Record Reservation.
- Terrestrial Record Viewing.
- Satellite Record Viewing.
Than you have just watching the program when is actually airing, and that is the Normal TV Rating.
Why the ratings vary a lot for some episodes? There are a lot of reasons, there are people that weren't able to watch that week or people that is watching with somebody else(and so only counts 1, instead of 2 or 3or 4 or ... people). And so on.

Very strange week, full of specials and Super with a mediocre rating (when compared to the ratings of the other episodes of the current arc) of 5.0. I guess people weren't too eager to watch another explanation episode.

That's a drop, wonder what caused it.
Is Heart of Gold normal for a Special?
And why is the Yokai special listed twice?

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
People probably knew what to expect so they either recorded it to see later or skipped it entirely.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I believe Heart of Gold is a special which serves as an "introduction" to Film Gold. As for Yokai Watch, It's listed twice because it occupied 2 timeslots (one entry is listed as broadcasted from 18:25 to 19:00, while the other is listed ranging from 19:00 to 19:56). Don't know why they did that, since Heart of Gold lasted way longer (130 minutes), and still counted as a single entry. Go figure...ArchedThunder wrote:That's a drop, wonder what caused it.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Not at all. Just shows people were not really interested. The show itself has better rating than the special.ArchedThunder wrote:That's a drop, wonder what caused it.

Woof. That is a nasty drop from last weeks rating. The fans must have realised how much of a fluff episode it truly was and didn't bother tuning in for the live show and probably opted to record it instead.

To provide some actual numbers from other recent One Piece TV specials for comparison:Sodhi wrote:Not at all. Just shows people were not really interested. The show itself has better rating than the special.ArchedThunder wrote:That's a drop, wonder what caused it.
Is Heart of Gold normal for a Special?
3D2Y (August 30th, 2014): 12.2
Episode of Sabo (August 22nd, 2015): 8.6
Adventure of Nevlandia (December 19th, 2015): 8.4
So yeah, Heart of Gold under-performed for some reason, though it seems like most things were down that week.

The only thing Gohan will be killing in this series is the ratings.

Haha. Maybe Gohan isn't that popular as people think and maybe they're justified in retiring him.Bullza wrote:The only thing Gohan will be killing in this series is the ratings.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Should be noted that Heart of Gold aired at 9PM on a Saturday night compared to the popular Sunday morning slot the show is regularly in. Not too surprising to see a drop there as a I imagine you're losing out on the young kids who would normally be tuning in. Will be interesting to see DVR numbers on that one.
Super's ratings are as expected, I guess. The preview was pretty explicit in the type of episode it was going to be, so I suspect a lot of people weren't too bothered by it.

With Gohan I think he will be a fans favourite or the complete opposite.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Haha. Maybe Gohan isn't that popular as people think and maybe their justified in retiring him.Bullza wrote:The only thing Gohan will be killing in this series is the ratings.

You only need to look at some recent character polls to see otherwise.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Haha. Maybe Gohan isn't that popular as people think and maybe they're justified in retiring him.Bullza wrote:The only thing Gohan will be killing in this series is the ratings.

Eh, if he's suffered any huge decrease in popularity it's because he's been retired. ROF probably did not do him any favors.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Haha. I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Well he had a much bigger part in Resurrection F than he did in Battle of Gods. I thought he was perfectly fine in that movie.

Nope, All One Piece's TV Specials air Saturday evening! 9 PM is primetime and so is way better timeslot than morning. One Piece in the past also aired in that time.Ajay wrote:Should be noted that Heart of Gold aired at 9PM on a Saturday night compared to the popular Sunday morning slot the show is regularly in. Ah, that's interesting. I knew the past specials had aired at that time, but I hadn't thought to look at previous ratings before making that assumption.Bigivel wrote:Nope, All One Piece's TV Specials air Saturday evening! 9 PM is primetime and so is way better timeslot than morning. It's not about how big of a part he played, it's about what he did. ROF was the beginning of the nerd, lame, saiyan-yamcha jokes that still go on today. I mean losing your gi, muscles, and power while gaining glasses and a lame outfit isn't going to boost your popularity at all. Especially when you get destroyed by base form freeza.Bullza wrote:Well he had a much bigger part in Resurrection F than he did in Battle of Gods. I thought he was perfectly fine in that movie.
