True, though they are getting a lot of backlash on twitter, especially after that leak. I'd also argue that Dragon Ball put them on the map I suppose but they are definitely known for more than just that.ArchedThunder wrote:Funimation is known for more than just Dragon Ball.Xeztin wrote:I think they just say "surprise announcements" to make everyone think its Super to draw more attention to their panel.

"Surprise announcement" doesn't instantly mean Dragon Ball. The fact that they got Shin Godzilla is actually pretty huge. People just need to chill and stop acting like every time they say they have an announcement it's going to be Dragon Ball.Xeztin wrote:True, though they are getting a lot of backlash on twitter, especially after that tweet. I suppose your right, I guess everyone just gets excited because nothing's really been mentioned about it and when they say "Surprise" it leads to this and that.ArchedThunder wrote:"Surprise announcement" doesn't instantly mean Dragon Ball. Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
Yeah Otakon probably more appropriate (if they are ready to announce). They have a history of announcing DB stuff there like the Dboxes. But your right we know they're recording it so that's a relief in itself.ArchedThunder wrote:Next chance for an announcement would be Otakon which runs from August 12th to 14th.
Either way at least now we know they are recording it.
Hopefully it doesn't take way more than a year before they can do anything with it like Buu Kai.
It could be that they want a good chunk of episodes done before officially announcing like the first arc.

So no announcement about Super or even Buu arc Kai? Ugh. That Instagram post from Jason Douglas is now looking like more of a red herring.

Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
At this stage I'm 99.9% certain that Douglas simply made a mistake and was not briefed on the secrecy of his recording session prior to doing the work. The evidence now suggests they are in fact dubbing it. We don't know how far they are into it though. So perhaps they're waiting to finish the process of dubbing so many episodes before they officially announce it. For example, when they do reveal it I'm sure they'll want to make a big thing about it. Have a trailer to show etc. They may just not be ready.Lord Beerus wrote:So no announcement about Super or even Buu arc Kai? Ugh. Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
How much does this hurt the odds of a Boo Kai getting a TV release? Getting a new Dragon Ball show on the air certainly seems like it would garner more attention from people than simply repackaged Boo, even with a lot better dub.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

They probably want to keep Kai but strike while Super is hot as well. I think they'll air both.ekrolo2 wrote:How much does this hurt the odds of a Boo Kai getting a TV release? I'd want them to go straight to home video and/or Nicktoons. I don't wanna watch the uncut versions if they have too much language (which Z didn't have much of, so I don't understand why FUNimation's stuff does now).Xeztin wrote:They probably want to keep Kai but strike while Super is hot as well. Buu saga Kai probably won't even be announce. They will just air after Future Trunks kills Cell. Toonami announce that they airing Jojo in October which will probably replace One Punch Man. With the Buu saga for Kai, Toonami will likely won't finish Kai until next year. Toonami is not going to have Kai and Super on the same timeslot. In the old days before 2004, Toonami was on every day of the week and can easily play new episodes. That's not going to happen with it airing on Saturdays only and they can use the other timeslots for newer shows.

Yeah I don't think Toei would allow them to air Super on Toonami, Toonami starts way too late so if there is a TV deal secured it is probably on CN or what have you.Hellspawn28 wrote:Buu saga Kai probably won't even be announce. Kai is at 11:30 PM. Super will probably take that time slot when Kai is over. I doubt any other channel will want Super. Nick Toons got Kai because Adult Swim didn't want it at the time. With Toonami still doing well after four years from coming back in 2012, they probably have a deal set with Super.

Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
Why would it? It's not like they're dubbing the first new Dragon Ball series in, what, 20 years?, and trying to deny the leak would result in massive backlash from fans and information being spread nationwide of the new development.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I REALLY hope this major leak wont get Jason Douglas fired...

Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
Well leaks have happened before with other members of the Dragon Ball cast on both sides of the pond. Nothing like being fired from a role has ever happened to my knowledge. I'm sure the only backlash is all behind closed doors, like a "serious" talking too, or maybe a warning by the company. My hopes is that none of the actor's pay is cut from not following the NDA procedures, but that's not out of the realms of possibility.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I REALLY hope this major leak wont get Jason Douglas fired...

I'm sure this was done on purpose, as I don't see how nobody would have seen him holding a phone up in the booth and taking a picture at that exact timeframe, and I am sure he read his contracts thoroughly...
I will just believe this is a faux scandal for the fans to tell us without seriously breaking the NDA contract with FUNi, wouldn't be surprised if Chris was the mastermind as that's just his personality. They knew they would just get a slap on the wrist for doing this.

Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
I would be interested to know what the process is, with respect to TV networks, and the acquisition of shows.
Please, if anyone happens to have any kind of knowledge regarding this, I would love to know more about how it works.
Funimation are the licensee, they have paid for the rights to Super, and therefore, would it not be them who held ultimate sway on where their license, which they paid for, would air?.
Obviously, that would depend on whether or not the networks they contact would be intetested in airing it.
Then, throw Toei in the mix, it is their product, which they produced, so do they not get a say?.
Either way, if Super has been licensed out to Funimation, it is likely dependant on a TV deal, with air dates having already been agreed on.
This is where I doubt that Toei would be happy for their new Dragon Ball TV Series, which is aimed at children, to be aired on a programming block starting at 23:30.
I would assume that both Toei, and Funimation, in an ideal world, would prefer Super to air on a children's network, for example: Disney, Nicktoons or CN.
I appreciate that may not be possible if those networks are not interested in airing it, but I personally cannot see Toei being ok with the time slot.
Kai is different, its original run aired on Nicktoons, and most likely, Toei won't have been involved in the negotiations at all with the agreement for the show to air on Toonami.
Negotiations between Toei & Funimation have been ongoing since late last year, I assume the TV deal, and whatnot were the reason things have taken so long.
Lets say, that the other networks (if approached) all passed on Super, leaving Toonami as the sole remaining option to air the show.
Toei would have reluctantly agreed to air it there, or a deal would have been completely off the table, so rather than lose out, they agreed to it.
At this point, we have no clue as to when or where it is going to air, but I will maintain that I believe it could possibly air this year, Sean hoped to have something in time for the summer school term, not sure about that, but it is encouraging that dubbing appears to be underway.
Though in the case of Buu Kai, which, as far as we know, began to be dubbed in 2013, and recently wrapped up early this year - 3 years later, but still no announcement, airing or home video release, perhaps when dubbing begins doesn't hold any real indication as to when we could get it.
Lets hope Sean knew something, and what he said comes to pass, though I doubt it.

Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
I'm also thinking this is a very likely possibility. I think I mentioned this on the Kai forum pretty recently, but Toonami has a history of airing different parts of Dragon Ball concurrently, with the dub of Dragon Ball airing alongside DBZ, and even had a event called "Dragon Ball Chronicles" where episodes from DB, Z, and GT all aired together.Xeztin wrote:They probably want to keep Kai but strike while Super is hot as well. "Perfect" is the enemy of the good. True for Cell and true for real life.

Don't get too excited, they also posted pictures of them dubbing the extended version of BOG before they had the rights to it, and it was the TV recording...
Re: Jason Douglas Confirms Funimation Dub?
I just checked Sabat's twitter again and he's outright denied they've began working on it. Although at this point all of the evidence points to the contrary.
