If FUNimation Created A DragonBall Z Movie Box Set.
Do you think it would include the three TV specials, they were released here as movies... or features as FUNimation calls it.
Also do you think it would be just a DBZ box set or also include the DB movies and maybe the GT TV spcial wich was considered a movie here.

Well, the DB three movie set is already out, so I doubt the DB movies will be included. Though I guess a lack of having the first movie could be an excuse to release a complete movie set of all three series along with movies. It makes sense that the specials would be included since, as you said, FUNi referred to them as movies as well.
But if a movie set would be released, they would have to do something like the DragonBox movies did and put three or so movies per disc. Otherwise, we'd end up with something as big as FUNi's Fusion Saga box set.
As for what I'd want in the set, it would be pretty cool if they had at the least the Toonami commercials for the movies that aired there. Since it's primarily an American release, it wouldn't make much sense if the JP commercials were put in the set (though that would be cool, too). And if a booklet were included, I'd want them to actually put some effort into it this time. Stuff like movie character designs and JP/US air date comparisons would be good to have, too.

I'd be so happy if they released a movie set. I bet they will at one point.
And I'm sure they wouldn't release it in widescreen. One of the biggest things that distinguishes FUNi from Toei releases is that FUNi releases didnt widescreen their releases of the movies. Then again, there's always the chance they'll just take something they had fine and make it bad.

Funimation will release the movies and it'll probably be some sort of boxset. Without a doubt it'll be widescreen. The tech trailer showed it in widescreen. The movies being in widescreen would make me happy because the movies are supposed to be in widescreen!Synapse wrote:I'd be so happy if they released a movie set. I bet they will at one point.

Oh true I forgot about that. I still prefer them in full screen though. I hope at least FUNi would make it an option on the DVD to view them in both widescreen and full screen. The Prince wrote:Without a doubt it'll be widescreen. The tech trailer showed it in widescreen. I don't know if Funimation would choose to re-release the DBZ television specials in widescreen as some kind of movie box set, but I would hope so.
Aside from the fact that they're not movies, the versions Funimation released look terrible on DVD, some of their worst work to date. I would gladly take widescreen versions over bad quality.

Could people please stop giving them ideas?Deus ex Machina wrote:widescreen versions over bad quality.
If they did do a movies box, even if they did crop it or get widescreen print (which I have no problem with considering they are framed to be shown that way, if the situation arises), there would still be other problems with it (poor bitrate, saturation and altered colours, unfixed print damage, noise reduction leading to loss of detail, etc) that would prevent me from buying it anyway (own the movies box and currently most of the DB/Z films so whatever).

So basically, in your opinion, FUNi's releases must be on absolute perfection par to the Dragonbox video and audio quality, otherwise they're completely unacceptable? Correct me if I've presumed wrong. If that isn't profound nit-picking, I don't know what is. About your whole "poor bitrate" statement, FUNi's improved on that considerably just to let you know, otherwise season 1 would've ended up a 5 disc treatment.ETC123 wrote:If they did do a movies box, even if they did crop it or get widescreen print (which I have no problem with considering they are framed to be shown that way, if the situation arises), there would still be other problems with it (poor bitrate, saturation and altered colours, unfixed print damage, noise reduction leading to loss of detail, etc) that would prevent me from buying it anyway (own the movies box and currently most of the DB/Z films so whatever).

I've said that I wont buy the season box sets, and I'm not going to change my mind any time soon. I would have no need of a DB or GT box set because I already have all the GT singles and I'll soon have the second half of DB courtesy of Madman. DB and GT have had very good DVD releases as far as I'm concerned.
However, if FUNI release a widescreen box set of all the moives then I will buy it. It may only be a small gesture, but it will be my way of telling FUNI that I will support a release in the CORRECT aspect ratio.
Perhaps if the sales of a movie box set are significantly higher than the season sets, FUNI might realise that there is a demand for a CORRECT ratio.
However, if the TV specials were included and also cropped, I would have second thoughts about buying it.

FUNimation have not gotten better, or atleast if they did, they went back to being crap. Just because you don't see the problems with bitrate doesn't mean they aren't there.Conan the SSJ wrote: So basically, in your opinion, FUNi's releases must be on absolute perfection par to the Dragonbox video and audio quality, otherwise they're completely unacceptable? And you know what- yes, it would be completely unacceptable. Japan uses the same programs and techniques that FUNimation could have available to them, and FUNimation do not do it to the same standard as Japan. Yes, Japanese DVDs are moreso luxury items, but that should not stop Funimation from trying.
In the end though, we know that FUNimation are incapable of doing a proper DBZ release, so why would I bother buying them unless it was proven otherwise that they've done one properly?

Off-topic, but ETC123, from this reader's perspective, it seems that you joined this forum ONLY to complain about FUNimation's DBZ releases.
Back on topic, I would definitely buy a DBZ Movie boxset if/when FUNi releases one. We know the films were made for the 16:9 format, so I have no complaints with buying the set.
I'd rather see a DB eps. 1-13 and DB Movie 1 release soon though, since I've never been able to see an uncut R1 version of those episodes. (I am being shipped the Madman R4 set of these corresponding episodes though.)

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
But he sure writes those complaints well.theoriginalbilis wrote:Off-topic, but ETC123, from this reader's perspective, it seems that you joined this forum ONLY to complain about FUNimation's DBZ releases.
Anyway, despite it being meant for widescreen, I'd still prefer a full screen option on the disc, as I like it with more picture regardless of how it was originally intended.
Besides, FUNi has no excuse if they dont release a DVD with both versions, as they have the resources by which to include them on there.
I don't think they have their old masters in fullscreen, as it's been stated that the masters they used were their only ones, but in this situation you actually have a legal english alternitive, tracking down the original FUNimation releases of the movies. The only one you wouldn't be able to get uncut bilingal is Dragon Ball Movie 1, because that one company still has distribution rights. Dragon Ball probably wouldn't be included in a Movie box set with Z anyways, since FUNimation mostley promotes Z, since it's the most action oriented of the three series.Synapse wrote:But he sure writes those complaints well.theoriginalbilis wrote:Off-topic, but ETC123, from this reader's perspective, it seems that you joined this forum ONLY to complain about FUNimation's DBZ releases.

Also worth noting because it's more on topic, on FUNimation's site, here they say "The Dragon Ball franchise has also generated 17 movies and made-for-TV features. There are three Dragon Ball movies, 13 for Dragon Ball Z and one for Dragon Ball GT. All of which have been among the top-rated anime releases in the United States." Either they don't count the DBZ TV specials as movies anymore, or they took out either one TV special and one movie, or two movies, both of which I doubt. I wonder which Dragon Ball movie they don't count though, the 10th aniversary special, or the first movie, which they don't own distribution rights to.
