That angry Goku - Where did he go?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

That angry Goku - Where did he go?

Post by ItsAllGood » Mon Mar 05, 2007 4:56 am

Which episodes would you say Goku was shown at his angriest? In my opinon, the animators tend to show him at his angriest when he is - totally - outclassed. This is probably most apparent in the Frieza arc.

Episode 76 of the Frieza arc comes to mind, when he was proclaiming to Frieza that "..I don't care if you're a million times stronger, you're still going down!.." The look on his face and just the tone of his voice (dub-wise) was of total seriousness and massive anger, unlike later on in the series, post-SSJ.

To me, he just didnt seem to get THAT angry with the villans anymore after he became a SSJ - it almost seemed to me that he became more 'annoyed' than anything else. He didn't display that sheer force of anger that was evident especially in the Frieza saga - and pre-SSJ.

Thoughts?

He never really seemed angry against Freeza to me. I didn't even think the ssj transformation showed him at his angriest. I remember he was really pissed in Db against Tao Pai Pai, and after Tambourine killed Krillin. He also seemed angry against Piccolo Daimao when he was holding Tien.

In Z the angriest I saw him was when he arrived in the Saiyan Saga and met Nappa and Vegeta. When he hears Nappa killed all of his friends he turns extremely angry with an auro forming around him.

When he first goes on the offensive against Daimao...I have never seen a more gloriously enraged Goku in all Dragonball.

Though the angriest you'll ever see him is when Bulma tried to steal his 4-star Dragonball :)

Err...

No. :|

The angriest I've seen him is during the Android 13 movie, while he's forming the Spirit Bomb.

He's bloody PISSED. :shock:

Anyway, aside from my strange mind, I think I know why he was so mad against Freeza. Lets see, hmm Freeza killed Vegeta who cried before dying and told him of the horrible things he (Freeza) done. Freeza then went to kill Krillian, who was Goku's best friend and being already revived once, Goku didn't know that Krillian could ever return again, making him really angry. And last, after killing Krillian, Freeza laughs and say that he is going after Gohan next. After all of that, Goku just cracked and went SSJ. That is why he was so angry.

Hmm, for the anger moments, there is the RRA who he got pissed off after Muscle Tower or Tao Pai pai, then there is the assassin himself, Tao Pai pai killing Opa's father. After it was King Piccolo, who got Tabourince to kill Krillin. Then in Piccolo Jr or "Ma Jr" when he captured Kami.

In DBZ, there is Raditz who took his son away from him, Nappa and Vegeta for killing everyone and lastly Freeza for explanation at top. In GT, if anyone cared, he was only angry at Super 17 for the 4th (?) murder of Krillian. If Goku keeps having less angry issues, he might have reach Nevada, if he ever cures his sin of gluttony. :roll:

Personally, I think the most angry Goku ever got was actually in a dream he had during the Android saga. In it, he somehow gets a clear picture of what Androids 17 and 18 look like and thinks he's still at the Son house, though is in fact being flown to Kame House. In this dream, the Androids reach his house and after some small dialogue exchange, Goku has an out-of-body experience as his soul apparently leaves his body. Gohan and Kuririn then try defending him, only to get fatally injured. Immediately after that, Chichi stands to protect Goku from them, only to be strangled to death in front of Goku's very eyes. Goku in the type of spirit form he is tries to attack the Androids, but just phases right through them, his efforts futile. Trunks then shows up at the doorstep ready to take them out, only to get his attack blocked and impaled by his own sword, falling at the Androids' feet. Goku by this point is in an emotional wreck, knowing there's absolutely nothing he can do to even touch these monsters, who've just killed his family and best friend. As he lets out one last scream of agony and maddening anger at the Androids, 17 impales his lifeless body, snapping the heart virus back to the real Goku as he has one last internal attack.

THAT, is when Goku is at his most pissed, IMO. Keep in mind, I've only seen the dub version of this scene, but it's enough to make me believe this is when Goku is truly in his biggest emotional rage. Agreed?

Everyone mentioned the good ones but I really, really liked his reaction after hearing about the fight with Nappa..Come to think of it, any time Goku returns or arrives to the battlefield, he’s always so badass. I mean, he stood on Nappa’s head!

I think after introducing newer characters in Z, they story would have to be written so Goku isn’t always the omega-ultimate-hero guy. I like to think Vegeta is the anti-Goku (especially in Namek). Basically, Vegeta does what Goku can do but won’t do, but should do..:P The series started off with Goku as a kid and you really don’t see him pissed until Piccolo Daimou (save for some RR scenes). So now we have a family man and we know he’ll still protect his family and friends, blah blah.

I think it would turn out boring if they kept the omega-pissed Goku to keep the story going along so that’s why I think Gohan has that whole hidden potential throughout the series. You could look at Gohan and Vegeta as different sides of Goku…

I'd say the most pure Rage Goku would be when he finds Krillin dead due to Tambourine.

I think the angriest Goku ever got was when Freeza killed Kuririn right in front of his eyes. Leading up to the Super Saiyan transformation, he was pissed. And stayed that way for a while.

I would have to say in Movie 8 (Doragon Bōru Zetto Moetsukiro!! Nessen Ressen Chō-Gekisen) When Goku was taking all the hits from Broly, he was wasn't asking the others to give him strength, he was telling them :) Also, when he punched through Broly and threw him up in the air to explode, after when Broly destroyed Planet Shamo, Goku was P/Oed.
I am neither Goku nor Vegeta!!

As if anyone trying to do that would want to go to that state. :lol: I'm assuming you meant "Nirvana", though, right?

Ehh... hmm. My opinion on the angriest moments I saw of him in the series have already been mentioned: when he finally snapped and went SSJ on Freeza and when he first confronted Piccolo Daimaou. (Why does that spelling look better to me? o-o; ) Out of the two, though, the latter mentioned felt the more intense. I remember watching him glaring daggers at Piccolo and then all of a sudden his tail just went FOOF right behind him. I was like, "... Holllly SHIT! DDDDD:" when I saw that. :shock:

As to his going SSJ, that scene wasn't quite as intense as I was hoping. I guess I can blame Toei for the delivery there, though. (It seems a bit better in the manga, where, though there's very little focus panel-wise on the actual transforming part, it leaves more to the imagination drama-wise, especially with the panels drawn as they are. o.o) The part of that that actually had me going "hohcrap" was when he screamed at Gohan. The look on his face... wow. Disturbing at best. .___.;

Although, does anyone remember exactly how angry he was when he yelled at Trunks in the Fat Buu arc? I think that's what he did; he was charged up to SSJ3 and snapped at him telepathically or something. Can anybody tell me how pissed off he was there, or did I just make that scene up in my head? @___@;

Goku showed his anger the most towards Piccolo Daimao in the Dragon Ball series. Boy, he was pissed. And why woudn't he be? His best friend Kuririn died and he needed to avenged him. I've never seen Goku so mad before.

Wow that image doesn't even look like Goku, but he does look pissed. I wouldn't say that was the moment he was most pissed though, for that I have to go with... actually there is a few. I think I would have to look through the manga and get the answer that way, and go with the reason of why he would be most pissed as sometimes I think the anime gets some parts looking wrong.

Definitely between the aftermouths of both of Krillin's deaths, but I'm leaning towards on Namek, as KinoFourpaws pointed out, when when he yelled at Gohan, I was just like :shock:.

Going back to when Goku says "YOU FOOL!" right before he kills Freeza, I never understood what was with his expression afterwards. He almost looked sad.

To skirt with the angst-o-meter, I think it was because Goku was trying to resist his Saiyan bloodthirstyness that had become pronounced when he became a Super Saiyan. Being forced to kill Freeza may've felt like giving in to that 'dark side'.
