Wasn't there a company that did a similar service? They would cut and edit popular movies for the more morally-minded. I'm not sure what ever came of them. What they did was sell you the original DVD and a edited version of it. I do beleive a lot of movie studios tried to sue them or something.

They were taking a product and making a profit off copyrighted material... If they got sued, they deserved whatever their consequence was.Anonymous Friend wrote:Wasn't there a company that did a similar service? If I remember correctly, someone did this with one of the Star Wars movies. Mainly to remove all traces of Jar Jar Binks.Anonymous Friend wrote:Wasn't there a company that did a similar service? Quality looks like ass thanks to YouTube, but it certainly does work better in fullscreen. Too bad the English narrator talks too damn much and Nappa's voice is so irritatingly bad in terms of tone and acting.
But isn't it illegal if he distributes this new version at all even if it isn't for profit? I mean, once he's done with this, a lot of people (me included) are gonna want it.SonGokuGT wrote:Why would this NOT be legal? This is a project made simply for Skitz's own personal use. He owns both sets legally and isn't planning on distributing them for profit... Some might say that he's tinkering with things that are copyrighted, but I thing what it comes down to is whether or not he's making money off them.
Skitz, you're doing the Lord's work! (lol, jk) Seriously though, even though I would never be eligible to get one of these from you, I want to wish you the best of luck!

The thing is while it is illegal, FUNimation isn't exactly going to give this legal attention a priority. It doesn't damage them since it's more or less a personal pet project, and the only people getting these would be the ones who own each part.
Of course make of that what you will, but I'd definantly not class it under immoral.

Yeah but they take You tube video with likeness of their characters like the playdia videos so I wouldn't put it past them.ETC123 wrote:The thing is while it is illegal, FUNimation isn't exactly going to give this legal attention a priority. I was already considering that, actually. I know this happens in more than just the episode recaps. Would anyone would be willing to assist me with this? Perhaps give me a list that includes following?: Episode number, what the line is, who says it, and what part of the episode it occurs.ETC123 wrote:A suggestion is to possibly remove certian parts of the dialouge. A lot of what is being said by the narrator in the preview part is basically DBZ's version of "blahblahblahblahblah", so maybe if you could splice in the original JP silent parts for those bits, so you'd have a bit less of monster-truck action going on, it'd make for a much better experience (aswell as removing off-the-side banter).
Yeah the timing sent me for a spin at first. I had no idea what was going on... I tried syncing it up by matching the audio of the English and Japanese versions, but quickly found out that wasn't the way to go about things.ect5150 wrote:The guy just has to remember to correct for the audio video offsets. The Toei releases and FUNI releases don't start on the same frame, so audio and subtitles are just slightly off.
Also, why is the YouTube video using blended fields? DragonBox discs are not interlaced (nor are the new Funi discs... one thing they actually got right!)
The blended fields were my fault. Thanks for pointing it out though... its been fixed.
I intend on syncing everything up via segments: Opening, Recap, Title, First Half, Bumper, Second Half, Closing, and Preview.ect5150 wrote:Those are typically the areas FUNI/TOEI could play with without distorting the episode by any great perceivable amount. I'm not sure... what did we speak about? I've only posted on there a few times.email2003 wrote:I think I spoke with you at the FUNimation forums have we!?
They will be left in, and subtitled. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the English track though. I do have the Cha-La next-episode BGM, so perhaps I'll insert that and find somebody to do a voiceover for it. I still talk with Sean Schemmel every great once in awhile haha... who knows?Obi-Wan wrote:What are you going to do about the previews though? FUNi's release doesn't have them, so are you just going to cut them out of this custom release? I guess you could get someone to translate them and time them into the end of the subtitle file. Wouldn't be so much work to do with only 30-something episodes at a time on and a few months gap between the FUNi boxes.
Yes, but I'm not just "handing out" anything... only people who already own said copyrighted material will receive the product from me.Deus ex Machina wrote:It doesn't matter whether he plans on distributing them for profit; Funimation reserves the rights to the english distribution of the show, and that covers public presentations. It's illegal for him to just take the series and hand it out, for the same reasons why it's illegal to copy a music CD to your computer and then place the songs on a P2P program.

Hmm... I don't think I still have the receipt. Would pics of myself striking various Ginyu-esque poses while holding my Season 1 set suffice?KinoFourpaws wrote:That would probably be very helpful... 8D;;BrollysKin wrote:So what do we have to show? A proof of purchase?

Only if you can do the same whilst holding any copies you have of the Dragon Boxes, I'm afraid. v___vSSj Kaboom wrote:Hmm... I don't think I still have the receipt. Now, if you tried doing Saiyaman poses or the Fusion Dance with them... 8DDD

First of all: Amazing, sir. Amazing.
How exactly would you be distributing this? E-Mail? Exclusive torrent (if possible?)? Snail-mail on DVDs?
There's a lot of questions to be asked here...
I haven't gone out and bought this Widescreen set yet, but I will if it means getting this 4:3 remastered version from you.SkitzZero wrote:Yes, but I'm not just "handing out" anything... only people who already own said copyrighted material will receive the product from me.
However, this then means that I would have to have both the Widescreen set AND the Dragon Box... I see that becoming a severe problem for many of us. But that's not really your problem.SkitzZero wrote:The only way I can legally (to my knowledge) make this available to others, is if the person owns the episodes in both FUNimation's Season set and Toei's Dragon Box.

You could always get the R2 singles, they're clearly easier and possibly overall cheaper to purchase than the Dragonboxes. They're all released by now, though I'm assuming you have to get every release with the first 39 episodes (the first 7 volumes) for Skitz to distribute a copy of his custom season 1 to ya'. Of course, there's also getting FUNimation's season sets, which it seems you're well aware of.Detective X wrote:However, this then means that I would have to have both the Widescreen set AND the Dragon Box... I can't speak for Skitz, but my guess is he'll be burning a limited amount of custom DVDs and mailing them to the proper recipients. Putting it on a torrent/up for download would just open the door open for some whom haven't paid their dues to nab it.Detective X wrote:How exactly would you be distributing this? E-Mail? 1500th post, indeed, I'm pretty cozy here. ^^

I'm having the same problem for most of my dvd's I have been synching wit a program called dvdsubber and while I really like the way it synchs I can also playback my Dragonbox dvd's with the subs on, but then when I try to create episodes with subs on them they are always off.Acid_Reign wrote:Actually, they're more than just slightly off. They're at completely different times! Don't ask me how that's possible, because I honestly don't know. I was attempting to apply Steve's subtitles for Episode 1 from the R1 release to the Dragon Box, but even when adjusting the first subtitle to the same frame as the original (with cascading changes for the rest of the timecodes), something is always off. In this case, although the narrator's translations were more or less on-cue, the title's translation showed up far too late to be acceptable...fooling around to match those two up would begin the narrator's translations when there wasn't any narration.ect5150 wrote:The guy just has to remember to correct for the audio video offsets. Unless I was doing something wrong, they would likewise all have to be re-timed in order to work as expected.
Also tried subtitle workshop, but whenever you get the subs right by playback the actually aren't right when you double click the line, for some reason the Vob files of the Dragonbox seem to be playing a trick on me.
I'm not sure about what but if you have some advice for me too I'd really appreciate it, since the only way I can see to get this right is to double click every sub on subtitle workshop to see if they match, this would probably be a more lengthy process than necessary.ect5150 wrote:PM-ed you, but when I was doing the same for myself, I noticed ep 34, the two were roughly 8 frames off for the entire episode. Although, I think things may jump a frame when the episode recap ends and near the eye catches in the middle. Those are typically the areas FUNI/TOEI could play with without distorting the episode by any great perceivable amount. If either messed with the interior of the episode, it would cause audio/video sync problems on their own masters.
