Dragonball GT Transformation

Post by DNA » Sun Mar 04, 2007 11:14 pm

Is this game worth purchasing? I've always been curious, how is the gameplay? Is it fun to play?

Hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it.

I see it for $9.99 by itself at Target's bargain-bins, and I believe you can get it new as the dual-game-cartridge with Buu's Fury... which is what you should get (if you don't already own Buu's Fury), since you won't have wasted your money on the one bad game by itself :).

It plays like a typical, old-school 2D brawler (think Final Fight or Streets of Rage)... except... it's not fun. I don't even know if I could go into any more detail. I just really, really, really dislike the game ^^.

Well... That's about all the details I need xD you actually made me laugh.
Now I'm almost sure I should not buy it, but one last question:

Does it by any chance play like Dragonball Advance Adventure? (in my opinion a good game)

DNA, see Mike's post above. It plays like Double-Dragon or Streets of Rage, just a simple side scrolling beat-em-up. Advance Adventure was a lot more...advanced. Ba-dum-dum-shing!

Bad enough that it was a poor game, but it was also an unfinished one. If you look in the unlockable game assets, you can tell you should have been able to play as SSJ Trunks, SSJ3 Goku, and one of the villians too I think.

I'm actually convinced to get it after reading this thread. O_o

If it plays like Streets of Rage etc, then I have to at least check it out.

45 minutes between that post, and your topic post, you didn't even know if it was worth it or not.

How could you know if it was worth it or not in just 45 minutes?

Meh, thought I should chime in.

I don't hate the game.. but I don't like it either.

If it's only 10$ and you wanna check it out, by all means give it a shot.

It was okay for the time that I played it. However, the part that bothered me the most, is how long it takes to unlock everything...

I personally hate the "Black Star Dragon Ball Search" part of GT, so that could account for why I don't like it that much, but it has its few ups, but mostly it has little replay value and the time that you are playing it could be better spent IMO.

Regardless, I love 2D beat-em-ups and this was fun for a while. Go for it if you want.

Unlike most people here, I don't hate the game. But I don't like it to the maxium either. The game itself is pretty good, sticks close to the show. But every freaking mode is the same! And the way to unlock is pretty hard, you get frustated and most likey go crazy, but if you can withstand all that, go ahead and give it a try.

It's not bad. It's no Advanced Adventure, but I prefer it over a handful of the other GBC/A Dragon Ball games (Legendary Super Warriors, Legacy of Goku I, Taiketsu, CCG).
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

Heh, I liked Streets of Rage (but not 3). Anyways, yeah sure check it out, but check it out here.

It is possibly one of the lamest games ever, coming from the worst DB series ever. Sure buy it if you want to add it to your collection but don't buy it for fun, because it just doesn't deliver.

But that's X-Play, a.k.a. "the obnoxious dickheads with lame sketches and a few game reviews show." I wouldn't take them seriously even if they gave it a good review.

Ok, I now am officially confused and ambiguous, I'm even less sure if I should buy the game then when I started asking. The game actually looks kinda fun, but maybe it isn't, I've got some bad experiences. I don't know if it is permitted to say this here but: is there somewhere I can get a rom of the game so I can try it before I buy it?

Kinda ignoring the ROM thing... I watched some gameplay, and struggled through X-Play's review, and honestly, DNA, it doesn't look worth it. Looks like the old Simpsons and TMNT sidescrollers I used to play, except... not fun. I don't usually judge a game just through watching it, but I think I'll make an exception with this one.

Only reason to pick it up would be if you haven't played Buu's Fury (Which, having played through it, I can guarantee it's sweetness), and you get it in the two-set thing.

Well... I've decided that I will get it, but only the two pack thing.

After watching Fag-Plays "review" I'm convinced that they didn't sit down and play for what it really is. Most game critiques nowadays usually piss and moan over graphics and such (which is why I fear there will never be a new Street Fighter installment *cries self to sleep*), when not really looking at it for what it is. I don't know about some people, but I can actually sit down and still enjoy a sidescrolling beat-em-up with little to offer... like Streets of Rage, or Final Fight. The fact that it's Dragonball makes it even better, because there's a little more of a linear story to it, but just because it's out-dated and "omg we've seen this before" doesn't make it not worth a purchase.

It honestly looks like, to me, a decent Dragonball game with a touch of old school gameplay. And while it more than likely isn't as classic for various (unjustified) reasons, it doesn't look like complete and utter shit.

But if you want to show me a real review, one that is unbiased towards all things Dragonball and can appreciate more than just "Budehkai 3", then please, be my guest. :D

X-play hates anime-based games. They've said themselves, "It's not that we hate anime games, it's just all anime games suck." (Approximate quote.)
They spend more time bitching about how they dislike the series than how the game plays.
I remember I was listening to it in the background while my friend watched them review a Naruto game, and instead of mentioning how the game played at all, they bitched about how anime sucks, wondered why Naruto wears 'an orange track suit' and then proceeded to replay footage of him shouting 'Believe it!' for 30 seconds to 'prove their points'.

Althought, I did play Transformations... I got it that afternoon and returned it by that evening, it was the same person behind the counter and turned out to be a somewhat awkward situation.

I played it before, it SUCKED horribly. I prefer the Legacy of Goku series over this piece of complete garbage.

I was under the impression that all anime games do suck(atleast when compared to other games of differing genres). When was the last time anyone here picked up their Sparking!Neo? Not much replay value there. We have great Dragonball games, but not great games.

Pretty much dead-on. It's sad really, since most anime-related games don't have much development time, since most publishers know it'll still sell well if not for the title.
