Yeah, on top of the uproar going on right now over the movie Tideland having it's OAR changed for the DVD. Lord of War had a similar problem too.Brad Redfield wrote:And let's not forget the mess Universal got itself into for cropping Back to the Future Parts II & III. (Accidently of course and that was fixed in later pressings. Even Bob Gale, the co-writer and producer, was pissed when they did that.)

So far, I've seen most of episode 2 and part of 1 (I skimmed.)
And, low and behold, I found that scene with the Tear! Guess what, I didn't see it! Are my eyes that bad that I can't make out a huge tear in a frame-by-frame video?
However, there still IS shaking and white blotches (small but noticable.) I haven't seen any dirt yet though.

Looking at the listing for Season 1 on amazon.com just made me realize what a losing battle us "fullscreeners" are fighting.
I swear, 90% of everyone who uses the internet must be a complete fool.
And they're all on amazon, buying this shit up. FUNimation's not gonna give a damn about a few letters. They're selling these things like crazy.

Um you do realise n is right next to b on the keyboard?Dude, just...stop. Please. It doesn't help your case when you mess up a common saying.
There is no reasoning with me about my money. At least about buying a cheap dvd set of a cartoon.I hate to say this, even if you do realise I'm right one day, there is still no reasoning with a cheapskate.
I was speaking for myself.here have been quite a few shows that I've seen elicit a reaction when something was changed for DVD release, be it aspect ratio, music or any number of other things. See, the companies are marketing stuff to us, the consumers. If they fuck up and we're vocal, they change it. People who take the apathetic approach, such as you seem to be doing, and try to undermine the efforts of those who would work for a better product are the reason FUNimation will continue to make these shitty sets.

Maybe they're like me and are just so overwhelmed by the idea of being able to view Dragonball Z whenever we want without having to wait on Cartoon Network or some other channel to decide to put it on. Sometimes the majority win. And sometimes a win really isn't a win.nathantheguitarist wrote:Looking at the listing for Season 1 on amazon.com just made me realize what a losing battle us "fullscreeners" are fighting.

But I'll make you guys a deal, if FUNi does concede and finally puts it out there properly, as a gesture of defeat, I won't buy or view the better discs.

It's not that. It's the majority of the people who are buying it are like "Fullscreen SUX!!!1 Wydeskreen is so0o0o0o0o co0o0o0l, and u gets MOR PIKTURE!!11"
It's very pathetic. And there's no getting any sense to all of them. They're all convinced that this is the greatest thing to happen to the series, and they're all eating it up like a plate of free chocolate chip cookies.

It looks really nice on my TV. Everyone I showed it to knew something was different because they were all so used to the grain so they all thought I bought a "newer" version. To the average person, its leap years ahead of what we were givin before. I would consider myself to be average and not that much of a videophile but I notice the loss in detail in certain scenes and the artifacts that are still present which, ironically, bothers me more than the widescreen issue. But I loved FUNi's DVD's before and I really enjoy these sets with the not-so-great remaster so I'm going to continue to purchase them.
By the way, when we were givin what we wanted in the past, everything was still selling like crazy. For example, when we first got the eyecatches, DBZ DVD's prior to that were still selling well. Same withthe openings/closings around each ep.
I still think FUNi did thise purposefully to keep their gates open. They don't want Dragonball Z to end and they can easily come up with at least two more revisions. One being in full screen 4:3 and/or the HD-DVD set. I also wouldnt be surprised if they had a "3 language" type promotion thing to promote the spanish dub....

When having sex doggie-style, the asshole and vagina are also right next to eachother. That doesn't mean I stick it in the wrong holeVictator Supreme wrote:Um you do realise n is right next to b on the keyboard?
Seriously dude. Proofread your posts.
Yeah, but previously it was obvious that they had the material and were (poorly) cutting it out. We could hear the last note of the eyecatch jingle, for instance. In this case, they've cut the material out of these masters completely, so unless they wanna re-telecine the film masters or go back to mastering discs off the digibetas they originally used...we're screwed.By the way, when we were givin what we wanted in the past, everything was still selling like crazy. Part of me hopes they use these masters for an HD release though. The High Def community will rip FUNimation a new asshole.

Man, vaginas and assholes. Those both sound better than these boxsets.

Yeah, their consumer base is a bit...brainwashed. I posted a quick review with some scrambled thoughts on the set (I wrote it in 5 minutes and will probably revise it later on), so we'll see what the kiddies have to say.nathantheguitarist wrote:Looking at the listing for Season 1 on amazon.com just made me realize what a losing battle us "fullscreeners" are fighting.

It doesn't. The angle switching will only effect the episodes' title cards and the ending credits sequences, all other visual content is the exact same in both language settings. Interesting though that you should bring up the ending credit sequence, as I noticed something interesting not too long ago. Compare the shots of Gohan running amok in front of the chibi versions of the characters at the 23rd Budokai, you'll notice the wide-screen doesn't crop as badly in the textless version, while Tien's head is partially cut in the Japanese counterpart. Also, a speck of dirt that pops up for a frame while the dinosaur is passing by Gohan is present in the textless version, but nowhere to be seen in the Japanese. Interesting all this is. >.>bkev wrote:This may be common knowledge, but if you switch from the Japanese credits to the English ones the camera angle sligthly shifts over and the colors darken! I want to see if it does that with the rest of the episodes too.

Looking on Amazon, I noticed something that seems to contradict the perception that this set is "selling like hotcakes". The set is listed at #664 in DVD sales last I checked. Granted, Amazon isn't representative of overall sales, but it's gotta be a little embarrasing for FUNi when your newly-released set is getting throttled by the Blu-ray version of The Fifth Element (#99).
