Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 16; Still Unreleased
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Ocean doing the video editing is indeed true which makes my point, we have NO idea if the DB Kai mentioned on that Canadian government site is indeed the Ocean dub. It could very well be the Funimation dub and considered Canadian content due to the video editing that a Canadian company (Ocean) did.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Well it's nice to know that the dub is finished and ready to air then! Gives hope that it will one day be leaked.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
P.S. I went through the thread and I really want to know who Subzero Ice is. Damn he definitely had behind the scenes news
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Some potential good news,
I spoke to Lee Tockar and as expected, he can't say ANYTHING due to the NDA that he has BUT here's the thing, Ocean is trying to stop people from knowing about the existence of this dub, hence the NDA's. I informed Lee of the fact that the existence of the dub is ALREADY PUBLIC on a GOVERNMENT WEBSITE and I sent him the link to the CRTC Government Canada website which shows that not only does the dub exist but it's already 100% complete. I also told him about the leaked intro song that's online.
As such, Lee said he's going to talk to his bosses at Ocean about the fact that all of this information is already public despite Ocean's attempts otherwise and as such, Lee said he's going to try and get permission to talk about the dub to the fans
I now have him on Facebook so I'll be in regular contact. Lee seemed really happy about this, when I thanked him for talking to Ocean for us, he said "No thank you"

And by the way, keep following that FRIEZA'S 7TH FORM facebook page. Lee confirmed to me that that IS his facebook page and he said he will be posting all of his Ocean Dub Kai info there if he gets permission to break his NDA.
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
So if they're doing this it means that they're not planning on releasing ittvfan721 wrote:Some potential good news,

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Interesting to note that in 2009, Corus Entertainment (the owner of Canadian kids channel YTV - the home of all Dragon Ball broadcasts in Canada) tried to convince the CRTC to increase the value of dubbed content for their Cancon quotas:
The CRTC denied their request on December 3, 2010, stating that it would be unfair to fully domestic productions to have dubbed content worth 75% of their value. This would've aligned with the early production of this dub. Could this possibly explain why this dub of Kai supposedly has a score by Tom Keenlyside and John Mitchell? Of course, YTV had already killed off Bionix (their older youth focused animation block) months before then.23. Corus noted that certain third-language foreign programs require more than just dubbing and have to be adapted, which involves rewriting the script as well as redoing voices, sound tracks and sound effects. Corus stated that such adaptation requires a substantial number of Canadian resources, and that the time credit should thus be increased from 50% to 75% of the program time.

Anyone here in the U.S still going to Metrocon? Its unfortunate Scott McNeil won't be there, but maybe someone can talk to Richard Ian Cox, maybe ask him for a sample of his Goku if nothing else.

I mean, if people want to make that request, then go ahead, but I'm 99.99% confident in my prediction here, which is that he won't even acknowledge being in the Ocean dub. Somebody already asked him about it and he gave a dodgy answer to the effect of, "I dunno, I've played so many roles in my voice acting career, so I forget a lot of them." Reading between the lines, of course, it's obvious that he was sticking to an NDA, and in cases like that, a dodgy answer is an appropriate answer. Still, NDA or not, I'm 99.99% sure he won't talk about it.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote:Sounds to me like Tockar is thanking tvfan721 for letting him know about the CRTC listing.sangofe wrote:So if they're doing this it means that they're not planning on releasing ittvfan721 wrote:Some potential good news,

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Yeah, I saw that convention video and it was a bummer. I was thinking more along the lines of asking him to say Kamehameha or something without confirming its how Goku would sound, but I guess he probably wouldn't do it knowing the person asking him was doing so because they knew he was cast when they shouldn't have known that. I'd just love to hear what he can bring to the role of Goku though, hopefully we will hear it someday.TheBlackPaladin wrote:I mean, if people want to make that request, then go ahead, but I'm 99.99% confident in my prediction here, which is that he won't even acknowledge being in the Ocean dub. Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
I don't think we need our own dub for Canada but since we're somehow not allowed to use FUNi's dub, I guess we have to make our own. I'd love to see more fans in Canada because everyone in my age range seems to hate the franchise with a passion and the only real way to strengthen our weak fan base is exposing more kids to the franchise and since they aren't airing reruns of DB/Z/GT, we need Kai up here.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
if they only saw it through TV broadcasts, and they didn't live close enough to the border to get the CW, the only exposure they would have for the inhouse cast would be "Season 3", the Garlic Jr saga, and the very beginning of the Cell/Androids/whatever saga. Most of the time it would be the Ocean and Blue Water cast. Arguably UK was luckier than Canada was in terms of DB content. At least the UK got the movies and specials (Big Green dub, sure, but better than nothing) and had the Funi Kai dub broadcast on a national channel.eledoremassis02 wrote:What do they hate about it? Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
I'm in the younger age range of the fanbase so I don't think many people my age would have been old enough to watch DBZ. Plus, the anime convention where I live didn't have a single DBZ panel except Eric Vail coming and I'm sure nobody cares that he was Trunks.eledoremassis02 wrote:What do they hate about it? ---Announcing Yet Another, "Don't Get Too Excited, But..." Update---
Soooo.....don't get too excited. You know. The usual preface. One that we have unfortunately grown accustomed to.
Having said that...Lee Tockar just announced on Facebook that he is Freeza. We've known that for quite some time, of course. However, his announcement contained one particular sentence that is noteworthy (which I have underlined)

So, like I said. Still not a ton to go on as far as how, when, or if we'll ever see this dub. However, the fact that he was given the OK to say so by the higher-ups is somewhat interesting. Interpret that how you will...my interpretation is that the show might be going somewhere as far as getting a TV deal. For all we know, maybe one has been secured already. How many people really care at this point? If you're a die-hard Dub fan, Funimation did a more-than acceptable job. If anyone does care, do you mind explaining why? Is it just nostalgia?TheBlackPaladin wrote:---Announcing Yet Another, "Don't Get Too Excited, But..." Update---

Well, perhaps people like us here in this thread are just another niche within a niche of the Dragon Ball fandom, but the fact this thread has gone to 175 pages despite no one ever seeing the dub speaks for itself.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:How many people really care at this point? But personally I still care. I love Funimation's Kai dub (like a lot), but I am also a massive fan of the Ocean cast, and since Kai is my favourite version of Z I would like to see how Ocean handle it.
Maybe it is in part nostalgia because the entire Ocean dub aired in my country, but there's more to it than that since I am equally excited for some of the recasts, such as Richard Ian Cox as Goku, and as TheBlackPaladin pointed out Lee Tockar as Freeza.
As intrigued as I am by this news, the first thing that comes to mind was that... well Tockar said something similar nearly two years ago (https://twitter.com/leetockar/status/529493816236331008). However, I like how he seems a lot more enthusiastic about it this time, so maybe he has finally heard something solid about the status of the dub and when and where it is going to air, we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...
Wait, I just thought of something. I wonder if this dub is gonna have its own terminology or Funi's terminology. Like, for attacks and stuff. For example, would they have Genkidama or Spirit Bomb? Or would they make their own and call it the Spirit Attack Ball or something like that? I hope they use the Japanese one. It would be nice to hear terms and names like Tenshinhan and Ki used consistently in an official and professionally done English dub. I know Funi Kai used some of them like Kienzan and Taiyoken but kept some their old terms as well. It's no big deal, just a thought.
