What I LIKE and DON'T LIKE about Super.

Post by keyz05 » Tue Aug 02, 2016 7:03 pm

Hello, people. This is going to be new discussion towards my own opinion on DragonBall Super. So, let's go, shall we? :)

What I LIKE:

Comedy & Seriousness: I'll be honest with you here. I love seriocomedy series, all the time! I've actually enjoyed it here in Super. It gave me laughs and other fun stuff I've loved about the other arcs. Such as, Universe 6 & 7 tournament arcs having their own jokes and the characters who are being serious on winning battles. Then, comes the humor from the Goku Black arc. Totally love the pilaf gang and how Trunks was going crazy on meeting the past characters. That stuff was gold, I tell you!

Goku Vs. Hit fight: Arguably, my favorite scene in the Universe 6 & 7 tournament arc. The part where Goku used the SSJB and Hit fighting each other was pure gold. I've had no words to say this, but I love to the end. I still won't forget that fight. I literary won't. :)

Vegeta and Bulma moments: According to Geekdom101, the Vegeta and Bulma are done well in this series. I mean, Vegeta really cares about his family, and Bulma cares about her own family. But, she also enjoys doing science and helping Future Trunks out with the time machine. To me, this is done well, and I like it!

Japanese stuff: Won't lie, I love the Japanese references, and music they put into Super. I also liked the scene where Zamasu was pouring tea for his master and gave me feels of Japanese culture. It felt like a right scene and I like the new credits. People may dislike the new credits, but I like it, nonetheless.

Gohan & his family: I really like how Videl becomes more of a mother to Pan while Gohan continues his career to become a scholar. They were cute and I love the official ship of Gohan and Videl, I mean, I really do. I really want to thank Toriyama for making this ship official! :D

The Plot Twists: In Super, not every arc is going to be linear than what we think, so far. I was stunned that Vegeta was going to fight Frost or Black becoming more powerful in the Future Trunks arc. Also, I love the moment when Future Mai was still alive. Therefore, I've decided it to declare that not every arc was going to be linear, which made me keep watching the show more.

What I DON'T LIKE:

The animation: To be fair, I kind of don't like the animation that Toei puts up. It still feels like the animation from what we've seen 10 years ago. Sure, it doesn't give us the new feel of DragonBall, but if we take it to a whole new level, it might fit with DragonBall, and give us that feel we want from DragonBall. This was a complain I've found out to my friend and he didn't like this new kind of animation. It still feels like what we see years and he wished he wanted something new.

The music: The music in Super is going to be mixed, in my opinion. While Sumitomo's tracks can work in some scenes, it can feel off at other scenes. Sometimes it can work and sometimes it doesn't. There's no signs of any action-packed music from what heard in DBZ and the other tracks from the slice-of-life scenes felt mediocre, at best. This doesn't mean I hate the music, all the time. The Trunks fighting Black music was my favorite in the series.

The pacing: Now, usually, when the pacing is slow, I wouldn't find it as a problem; however, if the pacing is too fast, then it's a problem. Since the arcs occur mainly in a few episodes, it doesn't give the feeling of the longer arcs of the other episodes we've seen in DBZ. Also, it just doesn't feel right on how one scene goes, and the other doesn't. The pacing goes slow in slice-of-life moments and it goes fast when it's in serious moments.

Son Goku: Where do I even begin?

Now... The reason why I placed this here was because of the cringe-worthy scene of Goku meeting Zamasu. He was getting irritable and annoying, which got to the feeling that Goku's character has been completely derailed. He is now only interested in fighting and most of the screen time is taken away by him, instead of letting other characters grown, or having their own arc. I find it completely best if Goku isn't the one who has stop all the villains, and instead, give another protagonist to do the work. We can't just stand with Goku all the time being childish and being bothersome to what other fans have considered Goku to be in the past!

Okay, imagine Phoenix Wright from the Ace Attorney series. He becomes a complete dumbass and lost all his intelligence, which has left his lawyer's badge gone forever!

Or, imagine Naruto being a complete dumbass, and losing all his friends in the end!

I don't know what's going on with Toriyama through the character of Goku, but I think that Goku has lost his identity in the eyes of Toriyama and Toei. They can't understand his serious side and his actual silly side. And it's heartbreaking to see him that way. Being innovating and having improved traits is fine, but not to the point where you completely derail the character entirely! That kind of stuff is not normal! It's not healthy!

Overall, Super has remained to be one of my favorite animes, of all time. Just because I explained my criticism's of the show, doesn't mean I hate the show entirely. I will still keep watching the show and see what could happen in the Black Goku arc. I'm totally wondering what could happen next in the future episodes!

What do you think, guys? What are you thoughts on this post on my opinion of Super?

I suppose what I just don't understand is why the series feels slower than watching paint dry. I feel like 20 years from now we're going to get Dragonball Kai Super, that's how slow this series feels, especially when it comes to learning about the other universes.
