Is Toriyama and Toei paying attention to their fans?

Post by keyz05 » Wed Aug 10, 2016 1:13 pm

I mean, Episode 54 of Super was a great episode, alright. Does this mean that Toriyama and Toei are paying attention to their fans on what they want or what?

What makes you think they're paying attention to fans beyond the fact that the episode was great?

Heck, what makes you think listening to fans would increase the quality?

So, that way, the fans can possibly get the right story we want from DragonBall. I don't think we might get a quality increase, but I am certain that we could get good writing.

They have been fixing the bad animation errors on the home video releases, I would imagine Toei has listen to the feedback from fans. Episode 5 blew up on the Internet, so they had no choice but to fix it.

What fans? The japanese fans or the western fans that are pirating their show?
My opinion: None of them. Whether we like or not what they´re doing in each episode is just a matter of coincidence.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

The western fans and some Japanese, I believe. I think they're doing it to improve the show and give us what we want.

The production staff should be bending over backwards in worse-than-usual conditions to make what some non-descript portion of fandom wants, rather than what they want to express as creators, and thus that makes the series good?

Dragon Ball Super has been written fairly consistently. The storylines are straight forward, but that doesn't mean adding a tiny bit of mystery suddenly means the quality of the writing has shot up, either.

That's not uncommon in the Japanese animation industry. Polishing up episodes isn't something that can be boiled down to just 'pleasing the fans', either. The actual production staff do care about making something good.

Why would they listen to the western fans when none of the DBSuper products and marketing related stuff has been aimed to western comsumers?

They would go on youtube or kanzenshuu, then find the criticism that was coming from their fans. So, they had to react.

Assuming the japanese higher ups log in youtube to see cooments and videos from non japanese speaking fans critisizing their product.

Just be patient and you'll expect better from Super.

You are not the fandom. The fact that you happened to like a certain episode doesn't mean they are paying attention to you or anybody else (and in my opinion, they shouldn't).

The Japanese are the main target auddience for the show since they care about how much money the show makes in the home country. The overseas market is gravy to them. They don't get every penny from overseas.

Really? Have you seen some of the "theories" in the official discussion page? Stuff like Goku being secretly evil and Black fusing with Goku and killing Vegeta and people wanted Freeza not to die and join U7 team etc. They 100% are best staying away.

Dude, there is no way in HFIL that Toei (let alone Toriyama) would take seriously the criticism that comes from people watching their show illegally.

With the treatment they've given Gohan, no, they're not listening to their fans. I'm sure the Japanese one has been just as outspoken about this as the rest of the fanbase.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Considering many different fans want many different things and the opinions on super are a mixed bag, I doubt the fans have TOO much of an influence on anything unless you're talking about merch sales. Especially not western fans who haven't even gotten the show yet.

The show getting better just means its getting better. Nothing more.

The idea that they would care more about Western fans is a joke and very ignorant.

As said by almost everyone in this thread why should Toriyama/Toei give a rat's ass about what Western fans want who aren't even supposed to watch the show and are illegally watching it.
