And if I get a meal that is overcooked, I can certainly criticize the cook even though I'm not a good cook. I may not be able to do it myself, but I know what I like and if the chef's cooking is bad, it's perfectly valid to criticize.

Like I said, you'd disagree with a story because you believe you could make a better one, which is why you'd criticize the one made by another writer. The same goes for those other things. If you had that ability, you feel you would have done better.

I don't have that ability so I don't trash your ability. Simple as that.

You're kind of taking this to an extreme. I'm not saying you can never criticize anything. I'm saying I don't criticize something that I can't do. You've gone to meals which is something that you need to live and you've got the right to talk about something that you need to better it, as well as other things but those films, books and every other form of media are all optional. I guess the best way to put is that it's easier to critique than make.

Er... No. If I see a goalkeeper failing to stop a goal that could have been stopped, I can point that out, not because I could do better myself, but because I know that it was possible to do a better job since I've seen goalkeepers doing a better job and making even harder saves.

If I read a book and some details about it bothered me, I can point that out, not because I could write a better book myself, but because I know it's possible to write a better/more effective book since I've read better/more effective books.

If I see a certain fan animation and I notice flaws, I can point that out, not because I could animate it better, but because I know that it was possible to do a better job since I've seen better fan animations and better animations in general.

And so on.

The only time where I can't really do that is when it's literally the best I've seen.

Admittedly I'm not a sports fan so I feel from that I'd be less likely to have an issue with a team performing in a way that is seen as being poor compared to they're usual standard.

That being said, I have both read and written books and I've never had a problem critiquing them because I believe I could have written or plotted certain aspects better.

I've also tried my hand at animation and it certainly was nothing close to the level of Super. To put it plainly, the 5th episode that everyone hated was better than my usual.

All I'm saying is that I've tried all of these and in failing time and time again after giving it all the effort I had, I'm a lot less likely to tell anyone how well they should have done it. Because I can't do it.

Those meals are optional as well. I do need to eat for sustenance, but I'm not living from hand to mouth. It's mostly for enjoyment. It is easier to critique, but we have every right to do so. Whether I need something or not isn't relevant. Saying you don't like something isn't the same as saying "you should do it like this."

If a story uses deus ex machina, that's bad writing. Whether I can write it better doesn't make the critique any less valid.

The thing is that the statement "You couldn't have done any better" is little more than a cop-out to deflect any and all criticism. Roger Ebert didn't make any amazing movies, but that didn't mean he was unqualified to criticize them.

I didn't say that you had to make the same choice. I just am saying why I'm reluctant to critique certain things.

People saying "fodders."

"Fodder" is already plural. No need to throw an "s" on the end.

Having no other good place to go to for Dragon Ball discussion. 4chan has fast discussion when this forum is slow but its just youtube comments 2.0 with nitpicking every little thing about Super.

elitists who think having a different opinion makes you a fake fan.
Liking Gt makes you a fake fan
like filler makes you a fake fan
watching the films makes you a fan
not agreeing that X was the TRUE ending of dragonball.
not agreeing with their crazy head canon
asking for proof of fabricated Toriyama quotes makes you a fake fan, and retarded.

Those are all too common, especially on youtube.

In fact. DBZ youtube comment section in general. People take opinions WAY too seriously.

And Super's way too shiney and oiley colors.

And finally, people who act like criticizing is the same as hating. If you read my disdain of super's coloration and assume I hate the show and want to yell and me and call me a fake fan, yeah...that's the kind o thing I hate.

There are no fake fans, just different opinions. Variety is the spice of life.

Boy, have I encountered that one. I was having an argument over Facebook with someone, and it ended like that. It was about whether Bulla was canon or not. Go figure. I successfully debunked all of his points except the fabricated Toriyama quote. He kept repeating "Toriyama said that GT, SSJ4 and Bulla aren't canon anymore". Toriyama has said that GT is a side-story, and I knew that, so I agreed that GT and the things in it aren't canon, but I had already proved, through screenshots, that Bulla is in Z and in Kai. There is no Toriyama quote that says Bulla isn't canon, so I decided to try forcing him to prove that there is such a quote.
The argument ended like this:
Him: No, Toriyama has said that Bulla isn't canon anymore.
Me: Source?

I'm paraphrasing, but someone called me "A classic case of a weaboo [Which is funny because I've been called a westaboo] who got banished from the fandom" or something. Why was I "banished from the fandom" ?Because I said that Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are one in the same. It was on that day that I decided to never look at the comments on TFS and Dragon Ball videos and stick to Kanzenshuu.
(BTW you signature is funny AF, even though it was most likely a nightmare come true for the mods and admins, I most admit, it was really fucking fun on my side of the screen)

Yeah, but it's hard to resist combating misinformation in a community you care about. At least that's how it is for me.

"Everything made after 1995 is garbage."
I'm okay with "Only the original manga is canon," but that's ridiculous.

@Alruneia:
Some people are focused solely on their opinions and treat them as fact. I've encountered that on this very forum, on the subject of Super's quality (big surprise there). I think it's great, but that's my opinion, and I know most people hate it. I don't shove my opinions down people's throats.

Have no problem with people saying nonsense because we live in a sick world and I don't really care what he or she thinks. But there are folks who are very funny that concoct fantasy story's as true and get mad at you for saying the truth

I agree. I tend to avoid youtube comments, especially when I talk about dragonball and star wars. The community there doesn't represent the fandom as a whole, no matter how much people say "the whole fanbase feels this way because look at youtube comments".

But sadly I still run into that garbage on raging blast 2 (literally yesterday on there even) and xenoverse. Canon police in general. They always answer a question nobody even asked.

Fan-I LOVE THIS SCENE! IT'S SO COOL!

"True" Fan/Canon Police- That's not canon.

Fan-W-...When did I say it was?

This happens more then it should.

Luckily the negatives opinions of online jerks mean nothing :D I don't even get the hate on Bulla. It's bad enough when I talk about her I get called a fake fan for not calling her Bra. Like look, I speak English. I'm using the English names. You wanna use the original name. That's fine. Live and let live, so why are people forcing people to use sub names? The community would be stronger if we used all this energy on dividing amongst each other and used it for something else. I mean hell, star wars fans work together a lot. Sure there's the anti prequel people who wanna bully prequel fans out of the community, but they're...no they're just as obsessive as the bad apples of the Dragonball fanbase. Nevermind...

Also, I agree GT is non canon to the manga, but to me it's always canon (to ball and Z anyway as a trilogy of animes.) To me GT is part of toei's dragonball canon. It was clearly meant to be in the same continuity with Z, and if something is meant to be in the same continuity by it's own maker...isn't that the definition of canon? I see super as canon to kai as it avoids fillers like garlic jr but embarrasses kai accepted filler like satan's fanclub from the cell games.
But hey, that's my 2 cents on the GT canon debate. I've given up talking to people on GT's canon status unless they don't come off childish. (So the people like you who luckily aren't stomping their feet and trying to tell people liking something not made by Toriyama is some sort of betrayal.)

I mean if the dude's a fan of Toriyama, you'd figure he'd at least NOT go around putting words in his mouth. It's quite disrespectful.
