Nope, although I've seen episodes (Db) where that bottom half is visible. There's also two Db episodes which are completely fucked and look worse than the image above. Most episodes are flawless though.Mystery Person X wrote:But not to the same extreme as this, right?Pieter wrote:The dboxes often have curved corners
And this would be for every frame of the series.

Which episodes? I don't remember anything jumping out at me, though it may have been disguised by the minimal overscan my setup has. Point me in the right direction?Pieter wrote:Nope, although I've seen episodes (Db) where that bottom half is visible. Woah, Watching Dbz with curved edges would be very disturbing!
I kinda think everything Funimation has been telling us is just bull just to give this release a better hit. They wanted it to seem better than the uncut special edition so that the people who bought them would buy this set.
BTW~ The avatar I got from a link on this site.
and
This is a full resolution of my cover *MADE FOR A FATPACK OR DVD CASE THAT HOLDS AROUND 5 -10 discs*
I didnt mention widescreen because I dont find widescreen important, it will probably remind me that this set is cropped and ill probably wont watch it.

I'm working on the second cover for the namek/ginyu saga so those who want that should expect it the day the second set releases

Good to know that we're trying to find ways around the big orange box with these customs.
Also (not to be naggy), but what's the status of MajinVegetaXV's video review?

I decided to do something to offset the delays, but it's taking some time to get back to me. Can't promise anything spectacular, but if it works I might have an interesting insight as to what exactly went into this remaster job in terms of time and money.DaemonCorps wrote:Also (not to be naggy), but what's the status of MajinVegetaXV's video review?
This week though, it's going up regardless. I'm pretty sure Mike and a host of other people are tired of waiting ;p

Kick-ass DVD cover. While it's your personal cover to make however you want, I don't see why you're calling it simply "The Vegeta saga" when FUNi are advertising it as "Season 1". I mean, if you're gonna base your custom covers specifically off the saga names, then you may as well say "The Vegeta saga w/t first 4 episode of the Namek saga". These releases are intended by FUNi to be "Season set" releases, not saga sets. As far as I can see, there's not one mention of this being the first season on your cover, which is odd considering "Season 1" is all over the DVD menus.Ninja_Star wrote:This is a full resolution of my cover *MADE FOR A FATPACK OR DVD CASE THAT HOLDS AROUND 5 -10 discs*

So I can't wait for it.
And in response to Conan ~ I named it the Vegeta Saga because I think Vegeta is awsome and deserves his name in the cover, I dont like to go by Seasons due to the fact it is more harder to remember what saga is in which season.

Db episodes 51 and 52 are the ones that have ridicolous wraparound mistakes. I've shown screenshots before. Apart from that many episodes (Db) sometimes reveal the right corner of the video masters. Just a black corner that's hardly noticeable.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Which episodes? I don't remember anything jumping out at me, though it may have been disguised by the minimal overscan my setup has. Hm, interesting! I never noticed it before since I watched the DragonBoxes on my TV (which has 2.5% overscan), but watching those episodes on the computer I saw what you were talking about.Pieter wrote:Db episodes 51 and 52 are the ones that have ridicolous wraparound mistakes. My only real reply is: "Weird"
Wonder what the explanation is?

In order for me to give you actual comparisons that don't suffer from re-compression, I'd have to upload MPEG-2 files. And those are huge.Victator Supreme wrote:Still waiting for actual video comparisons, as opposed to still shots.
What are you looking for exactly, the effect of the cropping? The actual extent of the damage on the FUNimation "remasters" as opposed to Toei's actual frame-by-frame restoration?

Basically to see how much the cropping, will effect my viewing enjoyment. Also to see the extent of the damage.MajinVejitaXV wrote:In order for me to give you actual comparisons that don't suffer from re-compression, I'd have to upload MPEG-2 files. As both a purist and a fan of all things widescreen (I find myself enjoying movies/shows/whatever more often in widescreen than in full, don't ask), I have mixed feelings. I honestly didn't notice the cropping, but I knew it was there so that kind of got to me. But overall, I really enjoyed the set. As a purist, I wish they would have released it as a 4:3 set, but the 16:9 and the cropping did not ruin the experience for me in the least.
Basically, there's one question you should ask yourself if you're skeptical of purchasing these sets:
Can you afford the alternatives?
Honestly, I can't afford the singles or used Dragon Boxes, so I settled for the sets. If FUNi decides to re-re-release DBZ again in a future format (HD-DVD or Blu-Ray) with a 4:3 ratio, I'll probably buy those as well. I know this isn't the end-all DBZ set, but the video quality is good (enough, despite the glue and what-not) and there are three audio tracks, as well as Daimao's subtitles.

Thank you! Those are interesting... I wonder what happened with those... Bad alignment? Cels were not painted correctly? Hmmm...Pieter wrote:http://img472.imageshack.us/img472/1686/krillindo6.pngSonGokuGT wrote:I'm interested in seeing these screencaps of the frames in DB...

In the flashback from the episode after everything is fine. At the bottom of the first cel you get to see Kuririn's head, in other words the top of the picture is visible again, so it's probably a wraparound mistake.SonGokuGT wrote:Thank you!
