Super Dragonball Z Opinions
Over the weekend, I finally purchased Super Dragonball Z. I know this game came out a while ago, but what are your opinions on it? As of right now, I'm having trouble with the controls and doing combos. I hear it plays like Street Fighter, but I'm having more trouble with this than I would a Street Fighter..Your thoughts? At this point, I am gonna go insane trying to work on this game.

I am neither Goku nor Vegeta!!

I also had some trouble getting used to the controls myself. But after a couple of hours I had no problem. The hardest thing was switching from Budokai and Sparking controls. At first I had the difficulty setting at easy but soon put it up to hard and wished that it had a higher setting.

Very good game for a pure fighter with essentially no story mode, which is clearly different from all the other DBZ games on the Ps2 console, being a very good thing IMO. It was actually nice to have a refreshing game with an incredibly extensive display of abilities and techniques for each fighter, not to mention the very fun aspect of using other characters' moves. The game in itself is very obviously based entirely on the manga, and if an anime purist like me can have a ball with this game, that says volumes. It's very fun having what is essentially a DBZ/Street Fighter fusion (pun intended) in terms of its fighting engine, in addition to the very nice manga-style aspects and graphics. Hell, a reason why I love it, the single player modes get very addictive when you wanna unlock certain things and just get to the end of the Roulette, not to mention getting 23rd Budokai Chichi (I know Rocketman's a very happy fanboy) and Goku in his Yardrat garbs. Just overall, for all the reasons I pointed out, a very fun game, showing Atari that a DBZ game doesn't have to have a 120 character packed story mode to appeal to us fans.
My favorite character in the game.

Have you tried using the analog instead of the D-Pad? That usually works for me. The game controls are pretty much like any traditional 2-D stylized fighter.Gogeta101 wrote:Over the weekend, I finally purchased Super Dragonball Z. I loved Super Dragon Ball Z.. for the time I had it.
I'm not really so much of a hardcore gamer, although I love titles like Marvel vs Capcom and the like, Super DBZ wasn't my cup of tea. It lacked some replayability, trying to get my Gohan leveled up by getting the Dragon Balls over and over and over again. But in the end, what I want from a DBZ game is to re-enact the story and the game itself, so Sparking! NEO fits that perfectly.
Just my interests though, I have nothing against the game and if someone is a huge fan of it, I can't blame em.

Yes. I have tried everything to feel comfortable playing the game, and nothing really works.Sebastian (SB) wrote:Have you tried using the analog instead of the D-Pad? That usually works for me. The game controls are pretty much like any traditional 2-D stylized fighter.

Kinda awkward responding to this thread but this game feels more like a Soul Calibur than a Street Fighter to me. The controls are still a bit clunky to me. With the "newer" Street Fighters, I change the controls to avoid using the Ls and Rs if at all possible, but its not working with SDBZ at all...

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.
