Game Idea: Dragonball DDR

Post by Magica » Mon Mar 12, 2007 6:56 pm

Amusingly enough, I got this idea while listening to the recent podcast, and with the recent release of the Dragonball Remix CD, and the huge variety of Dragonball music out there, I got to thinking. They made a Dance Dance Revolution with Mario, so why not a Dance Dance Revolution with Dragonball?

Sort of like the Budokai games, you'd have a large variety of characters, but instead of fighting, you would have different dancing arenas. The usual fighting techniques such as the Masenko or Kamehameha would be different dance moves.

The story mode would sort of be in the style of the Dragonball story, but it dances. For example, instead of Freeza fighting Goku on Namek, he would challenge him to a dual of dancing with a sort of battle music remix. Story mode can also earn you new moves or points to unlock moves, new music, scenarios, or characters. The Story mode can also give you the option of either going Dragonball, Dragonball Z, or Dragonball GT. Imagine someone like Vegeta or Piccolo dancing to a remix of Spacepeople DBZ or Bokutachi wa Tenshi(?) Datta.

This would work on the occasional DDR dance pad, but if it was with the aid of the Nintendo Wii's wiimote, then you can have the option of mimicing the Kamehameha or other moves if you like.

I know it's a wild and crazy idea, but what are your thoughts?

I say "awesome idea." I know I would play it like crazy, no matter how much I suck at DDR.

A dancing game out of DragonBall? Well, I could easily see something like that for a handheld system (GBA/DS/PsP) based on the original DB series, but DBZ and the following GT series are too action/fighting involved. Maybe if it were something of a mini game featurette in a bigger RPG/fighting involved DBZ game where you have to solve puzzles or something, but other than that, I couldn't see it with DBZ. Mario's different because it can literally appeal to all game genres out there, but DBZ is very unique. Like I said, maybe with the original DB series when Goku's a kid and everything is innocent, then I could see something like it happening. I will give ya' credit, not a bad idea, babe.

I'd probably buy it, play it, and remove the tongues of any who witnessed.

It sounds like a cool idea. If it ever came to be, it could kinda like Super Puzzle Fighter with Street Fighter.

I'm terrible at DDR, but I'd definately buy a dragonball-themed version of the game. XD

That sounds like an amazing idea!

I never really thought about that, but me and my friend have made a quasi-variation of that whenever we play DDR at the arcades.

We play doubles and try to synch up our moves like we're fighting and hit the notes at the same time. Like stepping to the side to dodge, stepping towards the other guy for an attack, etc. :P

I think it'd fit good for DBZ, and be a quirky, yet fun twist to the Dragon Ball game line. Love DDR, love Dragon Ball. Put em together and I'm there

Sounds kind of cool... But it doesn't really suit DBZ/GT.

Ditto. With all the DBZ music out there, I'd say it's possible.

Considering the amount of remixes and image songs DBZ has, I could seriously imagine something like this coming to mind. It would be a nice breath of something different. I mean DBZ is synonomous with action games, so I'd like to see how something like this would play out. I'd definitely get a PS2 just for something like this.

Well, if not for this, there're over half-a dozen other DBZ games for the Ps2. For the Ps2, DBZ has a lot to offer. >>

Just use Dance Factory+ a dbz CD.

On a side note, Pop'n music for the GBC did have the DB and DBZ opening in ot.
Jord doesn't have a avatar because the combination of Jord and a equally cool avatar would cause the universe to implode.

Cha-La Head Cha-La has been in Taiko no Tatsujin on PS2, as well. It's quite a fun tune to drum to.

Imagine Solid State Scouter on a DDR pad. Pwnage. I would buy it in a second. Too bad it probably won't ever come out.

It would be cool if the game was based on the Ginyu Force. The plot could be somthing like your trying to be the new member of the Ginyu Force or somthing.

To quote someone's signature...
"I can do the fusion dance, I just need the arrows to show me how!"
^_^.
I was thinking Ginyu-ness as well, and then suddenly remembered the ... umm... fighting pad thing that I think worked with the Genesis? Meh, for fighting games. I haven't seen one though, so I have no idea how it works (though I believe we passed one in a fleamarket once).

While the title of the topic made me think, "Wtf?" I kind of like the idea. I would definitely buy it. But my only concern would be this: would there even be any songs with a high enough BPM to really satisfy someone such as myself? (I kind of suck now at DDR and can only do a few high BPM songs on heavy, but I'm improving) I think I remember hearing that the Mario Mix was a very easy version of DDR with little challenge.

I don't play the game competitively, but if they do do it, I hope they do a good job with song variety.

Cha-La was on Donkey Konga too. But yeah, doesn't sound like a bad idea. A karaoke game would be more fun, though.
