"Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Does anyone else think the "rose" is inspired from the sakura pedals that float around Zamasu all the time? Perhaps he's like Golden Freeza and can choose the color.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I thought exactly the same when watching the episode and finally seeing the form in action. But it also made me wonder... could Black push Rose further and turn it red?Xeztin wrote:Does anyone else think the "rose" is inspired from the sakura pedals that float around Zamasu all the time? Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I think it's a little far-fetched. Not to say it isn't a true interpretation, as in with every art, but I am not sure it was Toriyama's intention. Maybe I get too much of a sense of modesty from his interviews, but whatever.
I found out something interesting about SSJ Blue too when doing my Breaking down the transformations thread too, but didn't put it in for the same reason. Teal/turquoise is a color that represents above all balance and stability, much like how it is presented in the anime as the form which has the best ki control, but also, in turn, it can also signify lack of communication and unreliability. The form is introduced in RoF, where Goku and Vegeta suffer from lack of communication and eventually get defeated by Freeza, making the form with all it's perfect ki control and such, unreliable.
I think both of those instances just happen to be coincidences. The stuff IS there, but I am not so sure it's intentional.

I don't think people give Toriyama enough credit. I would suprised if he didn't do that intentionally. The Black Rose thing would be too big of a coincidence. The "LUL he forgets everything" part of him is being too overblown now, I think.

Isn't it actually Super Saiyan Rosé though?Xeztin wrote:Thought this was pretty cool too:Draconic wrote:I thought exactly the same when watching the episode and finally seeing the form in action. I like it, but it's supposed to be Super Saiyan Rosé (超サイヤ人ロゼ : Sūpā Saiya-jin Roze), not Super Saiyan Rose (超サイヤ人ローズ : Sūpā Saiya-jin Rōzu), as you can see (and hear from Goku's pronunciation) in the title for Episode 56. So it doesn't quite check out.

All of this, especially the bolded part. But my only doubt is the fact that it's Rosé and not Rose.nite_jay wrote:I don't think people give Toriyama enough credit. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
It being Rosé makes me wonder if there is some connection to the Gods of Destruction or Whis's race as those are the only things in Super with alcohol based names.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Rosé has been used before in Japanese with this same spelling, even when the source should be the rose flower, and therefore written Rose, without the accent. Take it from Herms himself: https://twitter.com/Herms98/status/763415883049869312
I think the name manages to nail two points: it's color, but also the alcoholic drink pun related to Gods of Destruction. It might be a hint at... something.

Could Rose and Rosé be a double entendre? (Is that the word?Anime Kitten wrote:All of this, especially the bolded part. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I'm going to bank on a double-pun! Rosé does sound and look cooler too! a Black Rose plus a connection to Whis/Beerus/Kai's (Because he is a kai after all) sounds okay to me so call it Rosé. It also defines the color I suppose.Draconic wrote:Rosé has been used before in Japanese with this same spelling, even when the source should be the rose flower, and therefore written Rose, without the accent. Re: Black Rose
The pun is not specifically a play on rose (rozu) the flower, it's rosé wine (roze). Rosé wine and roses are sometimes associated together, but this is largely due to their similar colors and romantic connotations. I think Toei was definitely going for some symbolism with the cherry blossom petals, but I'm not inclined to think Toriyama is incorporating such a subtle and largely Western literary technique into his work.
I'm hoping Super Saiyan Rosé - an alcohol pun - indicates Black's role in the universe as a god of destruction.

Edit: Oh, I guess this has all pretty much been said already...

Trunks can sense Black's ki, so he isn't a god, and not a Hakaishin.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Normal people can sense Kaioshin though.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Trunks can sense Black's ki, so he isn't a god, and not a Hakaishin.
If there is any connection to his transformation and God Ki it's just the transformation. Though it is possible that he was someone who had God Ki but can be sensed by Trunks because he's using Goku's body.

Not according to the manga.ArchedThunder wrote:Normal people can sense Kaioshin though.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Trunks can sense Black's ki, so he isn't a god, and not a Hakaishin.
But I agree that, like Goku and Vegeta, Black will probably have god ki in his transformation.

That's (conveniently for the new material) never actually indicated, as far as I know.ArchedThunder wrote:Normal people can sense Kaioshin though.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Trunks can sense Black's ki, so he isn't a god, and not a Hakaishin.
While people are being quite creative about the implications of "Rosé," I've just been assuming -- as Herms points out -- it's referring to the light pink color, which is an inversion of Super Saiyan Blue's light blue (these should wind up on near opposite sides of the color wheel, given some leeway to make the design work with Black's outfit).
It'll be interesting to see how an English dub tackles this, where "rosé" is almost never used to refer to the color alone, as it occasionally is in Japan. I'm betting they'll just go with "rose" sans accent, which -- while not quite accurate -- has more of a color connotation in the West than "rosé," which is used almost exclusively to refer to the wine.

Before he could sense God Ki Goku could use Kaioshin as a point to teleport to, something he needs to sense Ki to do.Sandubadear wrote:Not according to the manga.ArchedThunder wrote:Normal people can sense Kaioshin though.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:Trunks can sense Black's ki, so he isn't a god, and not a Hakaishin.

I thought he only teleported to Gohan, but it's been a while since I've watched or read the Boo arc, so I could be wrong.ArchedThunder wrote:Before he could sense God Ki Goku could use Kaioshin as a point to teleport to, something he needs to sense Ki to do.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
In episode 50 everyone was able to sense black's ki. I think black is still learning about god ki, and ssr will be when he figured out how to use it with goku's body. Just a theory though.
