Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
So the DVR ratings for the past couple months...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
That doesn't have to be explained, it's quite obvious. You're talking too much about what it is, and not what it should be. Sometimes the two are the same and when it is, that's great. However, this is not one of those times. Doesn't change the fact that it is a problem and that's why people complain. It doesn't even have to be those characters, just have other more interesting characters on screenHeroR wrote:Given how the pacing is going, wasting two minutes is hardly a thing. And I really don't care to see two an extra minutes of Trunks getting his ass beat by Vegeta. The training session was as long as it need to be, especially since it wasn't the training session that people were wanking it to be. And always remember, iconic characters like Tien, Yamcha, and Master Roshi got replaced by a whining, cowardly little brat named Gohan who wasted more time in the anime filler than the Pilaf gang.
Also the great thing about Gohan is that he changed to d the opposite of that. He realized his cowardice and resolved to make amends. He even became much more popular than those characters. Pilaf gang will never change.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

The last time we saw Mirai Mai she was still on the ground, and she probably had a total amount of screen time as much as Piccolo in this Arc..

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Once they go to the future in the next episode, perhaps that's when Mai's "big role" will begin. I'm really hoping they weren't equating the Pilaf Gang dicking around every episode to present Mai playing an important role in the story
As for the ratings slide, it makes sense given the time of year it is. Summer vacation has begun, so lots of families are probably going on trips, visiting relatives, attending some of Japan's numerous summer festivals...all in all, it's expected that ratings would go down when people are busy doing other stuff. So maybe the ratings for all shows will rise up again in September.

There is no such thing as 'as it should be'. There is only as it is. If Toriyama wants to make Gohan and Piccolo important, he will do it just like he did the Pilaf gang. The characters being 'iconic' or 'beloved' by fans doesn't matter, especially from an author who was willing to kill off their own MC of almost a decade before changing their mind.
And it doesn't matter if the Pilaf gang never change, which is factually untrue given Future Mai. Gohan as of this moment isn't important. He, just like Tien, Yamcha, and Master Roshi before them, had been replaced with new characters.
Still using your logic fallacy. Believe it or not, your opinion is not fact, just as people complaining on the internet isn't a majority opinion, otherwise no one watched the live action Transformer movies or read Twilight. You can argue about quality, character usage, ect, but please stop using stuff like 'anyone' or 'anyone', unless you're going to go out and do a survey.namekiansaiyan wrote:

Never mind that the arc isn't over, but she is in the part of the opening with Future Trunks, and she's in the end cut board with Black, Goku, Zamasu, and Future Trunks. And kid Mai and the rest of the Pilaf gang appear too, along with kid Trunks and Goten interesting enough. So he will most likely have a big role in the coming saga. More than Gohan and Piccolo who just have their usual spots.perucho1990 wrote:

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Sorry but what it should be is much more important than what is in a conversation. If someone has a complaint, they better be able to back up the complaint with what should be happening or that complaint isn't valid. If someone wants to defend the show they better be able to say why "it is" is the same as why "it should be". Saying deal with it isn't a valid defense. Saying why you think it should be considered fine IS a valid defense. That's how people have conversations.HeroR wrote:kinisking wrote: That doesn't have to be explained, it's quite obvious. This isn't about Gohan and Piccolo at all. It's about the pilaf gang sucking hard to a lot of people. I made one side comment about it being a shame that someone like them took the places of krillin, gohan, and piccolo and then the conversation gets derailed to have them and especially Gohan as a center focus of the conversation. Again, stating the obvious. Gohan isn't important. I'm not saying he should be, just saying it'd be much better if he got replaced by someone interesting to me. You keep mentioning how the other earthlings got replaced. Ok? I didn't like that either but it was made much better by the fact that they were replaced with characters I found interesting. Replacing characters isn't a huge problem, replacing them with this trash is. But again, not even the center point of my conversation. You're quite obviously taking advantage on the fact I'm a Gohan fan and twisting the conversation. Can we please have that stop?
Just because Future Mai changed doesn't matter. For years she was thrust into a situation where she had to change without Pilaf to corrupt her. The pilaf gang is a seperate matter from Future Mai. They've had decades to change and they haven't. I blame it mostly on Pilaf because the others blindly follow him for some reason. Do you honestly think that the Pilaf gang will get any character development this arc? Not even Goku can get that.

Shippuden in top 10 that's good. The Naruto v Sasuke fight is not far now. I'm expecting the ratings to improve.

Just because there was no SUper and one piece. Look at the shows with ratings around 2.0 that made it in top 10.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Its bizarre how poorly Pokemon is doing. Only a 2.0 when Ash is at the Kalos league? The XY anime is one of the best arcs of the show too.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I don't get their mindset here.
We come from a break with a slow episode. (My idea is that since we got no battle in the preview, this episode will indeed have no action)
Doesn't this immediately imply that the ratings will be much worse that before?
We got
BREAK
Trunks vs Vegeta (low ratinngs)
BREAK
Slow episode
I can see super hitting 8+ place this week.
Obviously I hope I am wrong.

No. Don't try to make sense of ratings like that, it's a waste of time.Mazingerdestro wrote:I don't get their mindset here.

Top 10 tv ratings, August 15 - 21 (episode 55)
Sazae 10.1
Crayon Shin-chan 9.1
Doraemon 8.7
Chibi Maruko-chan 7.0
One Piece 6.8
Dragon Ball Super 6.4
Detective Conan 6.1
Ace Attorney 3.9
Yokai Watch 3.1
Folktales from Japan 2.9

It seems the Olympics were still having an effect on ratings, although Super did well.
Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
There's such a drop-off to the bottom of the top 10 with only a 2.9, which means the 50 other anime that aired that week all did less than that.
Really makes you wonder how so many anime series even survive. How on earth do Naruto and Yu-gi-oh keep making new episodes/series?

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Merchandise. Those anime make money by introducing new stuff that later can be turned into products. That's when they really profit. Audience/commercials aren't that relevant to them. The best example of this is Pokémon, a 19-or-so year old anime that serves the only purpose of selling videogames.precita wrote:There's such a drop-off to the bottom of the top 10 with only a 2.9, which means the 50 other anime that aired that week all did less than that.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Yeah I was gonna say, I've definitely never seen One Piece below a 7.0 before. It's surprising that One Piece fell so much but Dragon Ball actually went up. Though it also be because One Piece is in a filler arc at the moment?
It'll be interesting to see how next episode performs what with the big fight and Super Saiyan Rose for the first time.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I wonder if we will have a 7.0+ rank next week? The preview is the pure definition of hype.
- Goku Black returns after being away for some episodes.
- SSJ Rose.
- Vegeta/Goku vs Goku Black.
- FT Trunks meets FT Mai again.
Not only things will get more serious, but we also may have one of the best looking episodes in DBS so far.
All the right ingredients are gathered for a successful week.
Super barely could get close when Dressrosa was ongoing, a 2 years longer dragged arc, and now that One Piece finally started a new canon arc, it almost got beaten by it's own lead-in.
It's not the first time Super gets this close. I believe we can beat One Piece at least once, it depends how longer Super will keep airing.

One Piece is back to canon with the Zou arc, which makes this ranking more impressive.Bullza wrote: Though it also be because One Piece is in a filler arc at the moment?
