I'm confused as to why this is still a question, honestly. Super is made on a weekly basis with a cramped production schedule. This is a special cut designed with proper lead-time to fit into the context of a theatrical presentation.

I was thinking the same but it probably cost the studio too much to do every episode that way and because the time they have to work on things.

I thought Toei was more or less three episodes ahead, the next ones being already ready to air on television (that's why people can even find a picture of a next episode). If they plan what to adapt and which scenes to create beforehand, I don't see how there is a tight time to work on the animation.

There are roughly three to four episodes ahead in various stages of production (most certainly not "finished" and ready to air), as compared to six or more at its most comfortable peak back in the 90s. This is very rushed.

Just because they have SOME animation from an upcoming episode doesn't mean it's done, either; we've had several examples of scenes showcased in the next-episode-preview being adjusted in many ways by the time it airs for real the following week (different backgrounds, colors, corrected anatomy, etc.).

No-one in any stage of the production process is sitting around resting on their laurels!

Well they could possibly have some of it already but I doubt the whole thing. These breaks they have been taking is probably to clean up the episodes we haven't seen or new recordings or edits things like that. It is tough to say too because it all depends on the size of the team working on it but in order for that kind of quality it would take weeks for it to appear anywhere as good.

What are you talking about here with the subbing scene?

No. The break is due to the Olympics. Has nothing to do with Toei, and of course they won't put more work on super to make each episode look better. They will use that on other shows instead, or future episodes.

The biggest issue with Super is getting everything before animation done in a timely manner. All but one of the writers on Super work exclusively on Super, and all of the storyboarders work exclusively on Super. Even with animation all of the supervisors work exclusively on the show and a good chunk of the animators work exclusively or near exclusively on the show. The breaks will undoubtedly improve the show, it just might not be immediately felt.

It's not possible for every animator to draw that way as it is. Even if you give Yashima Yoshitaka enough time to draw more detailed animation than he normally does it isn't going to look like that cut of Gokuu. At all.

Here's a 1920x1080 link of that Gokuu screen capture, by the way.

Looks like they are giving him blue hair in the special too. Interesting. They really want to cement the fact that he always had blue hair.

Unfortunately it seems to be that way. Maybe we will also have a remake of Cell arc and all DBZ Movies where purple hair FT Trunks was a thing, to make it convicing.
Meanwhile DB Heroes keeps Time Patrol Trunks with purple hair.

In future videogames, FT Trunks alternate costume will be just a different hair color.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Unfortunately, I'll be missing this TV airing of Resurrection F because with the time that is airing here at the UK 1:00PM, I'll be working. But I'll be sure to catch it later subbed. :)

I've gotten over the hair. Toriyama loves theoretical science. In my mind, future Trunks altered reality when he came into the present timeline so present Trunks came out differently.

I kind of wish they would release Super as seasons instead, so we'd get high quality animation like One Punch Man. But Toei seems to be more interested in the advertising dollar and peddling their merch than creating art.

I'm only going to be able to catch bits and pieces of it myself because I'm at a family event of sorts. I'm betting the new material is going to bookend the movie; I can't imagine them somehow weaving Gokû Black stuff into the middle of the F movie.

I hope those who can watch the whole thing live grab some good screenshots.
On hiatus.

I'm looking forward to look onto the Mecha Freeza vs blue haired Trunks even if it just 12 minutes.

More information popped up a while ago saying that the new content was going to be more about the history of Freeza. Given that we just got screens of Future Trunks in his new Super outfit and hairstyle, as well as absurdly buff SS Goku on Namek, chances are that Trunks' fight with Mecha Freeza will likely only be smaller part of the overall new footage.

Everything is a mess at this point. There will be a Movie 15's Future Trunks edition but focused on Freeza that appears Goku Black...

Well, we're just a few hours from the thing so we'll just have to be patient and see how it plays out.

While it could be cool, I like having an episode every week because we get a lot more in the end. Plus we don't have to wait a year in between seasons...

5 more hours until the RoF Trunks special! :D
