I certainly hope so. Only time will tell!ArchedThunder wrote:That fact that we are at the point that an episode can have at least 7 weeks of animation, as opposed to the 3 we had at the time of episode 39 has me not worrying. Most of the stuff in this episode looked pretty polished and the NEP looks great, I think they are just at the point where they can help each other out more, something they hopefully won't have to do for long if the show starts seeing more great talent pop in since the schedule shouldn't be as big of a turn off anymore.

After finally getting around to watching the NEP for episode 57, I noticed that the clip right at the beginning with Black flying forward with his blade looks like it could be part of a good cut too. Also, isn't it weird that Trunks has his pupils as a Super Saiyan? I didn't notice that until just now either

Plus Shida in the house!!

Those colors look oddly like the old palette to me. Maybe it's just the compression, but that does look like some old cel-animated stuff.Sodhi wrote:Man I like this shot so much from the next week's episode.

Funny that they are starting to do this kind of stuff now that episodes are animated in a more normal time frame when it would have been a hell of a lot more useful in the past 3 arcs.
Still smart of them to do though.
Then again this could be a one time thing like when they reused a shot of Hit's eyes from 38 in 39. Either way at least it's not a straight reuse of the same art like that was, outside of the hair some of the details are different, like the nose.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
Everyone's going on about this Shida but I don't see any of his work on the first post of the thread. What's he done?
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
Nothing in Super yet, but he is the best action animator in toei right now.

I was expecting a crazier episode when I heard Tate+a lot of time.
I wasn't disappointed but still not impressed.
I really enjoy that the latest episodes are pretty much great in terms of art. No weird faces etc. The breaks did the trick.
Was Vegeta using gatling gun and shoryuken made from Tate because in general this episode looked a little bit Tateless

We had a couple of shots where Goku's hair was pure Black in this episode and the special that was nice!

Shida is one of, if not the best, action animator at Toei. He began showing off his skills as early as Dragon Ball Z, but his best work back then was in the Z movies:

His work on Precure and One Piece over the past decade has been outstanding, and it's the style he's developed through those shows that has lead to him becoming one of the most well regarded animators:

If you ever want to point to an animator that is the very definition of "fluid", then Shida's your man. His work moves around like water. So much speed, camera movement, rotations, and insane effects. He also packs his work with immense detail -- much more than most model sheets.
He's done a few things for modern Dragon Ball, too:

His work is pretty crazy. There are definitely some people out there who find his work a little too samey, or they don't like the excessive speed-up in some cases, which I can understand to an extent. Personally, I'm a huge fan!
Can't wait to see what he brings to Super!
Yeah, definitely had to do a double-take at a few points this episode. They also reused Black's smoke appearance that Tate animated in #47.ArchedThunder wrote:Funny that they are starting to do this kind of stuff now that episodes are animated in a more normal time frame when it would have been a hell of a lot more useful in the past 3 arcs.

Same piece of animation, they just threw lightning all over the one in tonight's episode.
We've been asking for bank animation for ages to try and help things, so I'm glad they're finally doing it, even if it is yet another reminder of the schedule.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
Holly shit, that Shida guy is a crazy mf. I felt absolutely in love with all those examples that Ajay posted.
That scene from BoG is one of my favourite moments of all DB universe. Complete madness. In-control-chaos.
Shida is the hero DB Super needs in this arc.
------------
Also, I found this cut (is that how we call it? I'm sorry if I'm wrong) from Dragon Ball. Absolutely bananas.

No. The schedule is only marginally better due the one week break but it's still far from the same average level of comfort that Dragon Ball and Z had in terms of production schedule. At its prime, DB and Z had at least 6 weeks of production time for each episode, while Super usually has only about half that amount of time, mainly due the fact the series had practically no time for any pre-production, so the scheduling has pretty much been off the wall from the get go. Things have been getting smoother since the beginning of the Universe 6 arc, but it's still a long road ahead for the normality that Super needs behind the scenes.Hit!! wrote:I see people saying that the schedule is better now, is that true???

Ok I see, his work does look very good and that from Battle of Gods was one of the better looking scenes I've seen from this franchise.
And this is the first time he's been involved with Super and that's why people are so excited right? Is he gonna do the whole episode or just the fighting or...?

He'll do a few seconds of fighting. That's all Shida does any more.Bullza wrote:Ok I see, his work does look very good and that from Battle of Gods was one of the better looking scenes I've seen from this franchise.

Yeah but i saw someone say that it's not 3 weeks anymore, that the production time of each episode was 3 weeks during it's lowest point (ROF Arc), but after the U6 arc things have been getting a bit better and due to the 2 breaks we had recently, that amount has increased, and there will be another break, not next week, but the week after that. Of course, i believe you guys more than anybody else, so if you say that it's still 3 weeks than its a bummer, i was already starting to get my hopes thinking that the average episode from now on would look like last nights episode in terms of quality of animation and art.Lord Beerus wrote:No. The schedule is only marginally better due the one week break but it's still far from the same average level of comfort that Dragon Ball and Z had in terms of production schedule. I guess it's just that the staff is now learning to work around the schedule.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
The show in total has had four weeks of breaks, which may have helped lighten the schedule in the long run but I imagine that there is still a bit of a rush to get episodes finished in time. I mean, ideally Super should have started at least two months later than it did, so any kind of break at this point would certainly help Super behind the scenes but not to the extent where the schedule will be as normal as Dragon Ball, Z or GT. I don't think Super will ever get to that stage unless the show takes at least a four to six week break to catch up on all of the lost pre-production time, which was a lot, but that will never happen. So, yeah, Super is pretty much stuck with its very tight schedule for the foreseeable future. The best way to describe Super in it's current state, in terms of planning and production, is that it's running on a lot of borrowed time.Hit!! wrote:Yeah but i saw someone say that it's not 3 weeks anymore, that the production time of each episode was 3 weeks during it's lowest point (ROF Arc), but after the U6 arc things have been getting a bit better and due to the 2 breaks we had recently, that amount has increased, and there will be another break, not next week, but the week after that. So does anyone know who drew the parts where they had ultra pointy faces? Like the face when Vegeta smiled after Trunks sliced the missiles? Also when Black is coming after Vegeta's signal. I really like that style on Vegeta.
Disclaimer: I might get into a disagreement with you. Sometimes I might even get feisty about it. I'll never harbor negative feelings because of it though. I hope you feel the same way!Jinzoningen MULE wrote: Maybe I should start making it a point not to comment when I'm not sure of something. Too many people know what they're talking about around here.
I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Has anyone got any good HD screenshots of Rose Black with that purple aura?
