Karasawa is a god.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Updated with the image on the previous page, and what a magnificent image it is!
Shida's work of course stands out above the rest. Even though his work wasn't even nearly as detailed at it usually is, it's still a cut above the rest.
Shida for character designer!

That was a pretty big triumph for Super. Part A was absolutely insane! Shida absolutely delivered, Karasawa continues to impress, and I really need to know who built Higashide and on what planet. Little weird to see that Yashima apparently popped up in this episode, would probably explain why 58 doesn't seem to be a solo episode from him.
Just so good.

I'm pretty sure he did the bit with Yajirobe dragging Goku and Trunks away from the battle:Wezenheim wrote:Little weird to see that Yashima apparently popped up in this episode.

Okay yeah, that definitely looks like him haha. Seems to be the way he's taken to drawing Goku's hair these days.Ajay wrote:I'm pretty sure he did the bit with Yajirobe dragging Goku and Trunks away from the battle:Wezenheim wrote:Little weird to see that Yashima apparently popped up in this episode.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
Man I wish Shida headed the designs for these characters. During their fights, goku is actually much lankier than when on Yamamuro's model. He also makes the faces longer. I couldnt see it in his BoG cut because it was corrected but Shida's art style does more justice to the series. The faces are longer, the bodies are longer.
Secondly, I would just to address my love for the way he draws a[url=blob:http://imgur.com/aea03e9d-8724-4f66-9b8b-c979ff042135]Foot bent at the ball[/url] every time we get a shot on a character's foot it's stretched to the furthest possible degree in exaggeration, which is something I've only recently started doing with my own artwork it's actually extremely HARD to do in a still drawing, much less one of 100s.
Shida for me is a guy who can do some of the greatest work ever, or completely miss the mark (Reason being, before anybody asks is the horrendous pacing on the animation. Looks like a VCR on fast forward instead of holding a narutal flow, so it looks kinda gross. - seriously mute that shit and watch it, I cannot stand Shida's high-speed animation when lips-ynced to stuff like this)
This animation here shined through in one of the best ways possible, and created one of the best cuts to make it into not just Super - but the entirety of Dragon Ball's [franchise] TV animation. I'm really Glad we got to see him work on that. And also The other animators who blew us out of the water with all their work. As much as I love shida the circle jerk around him and ONLY him among the non-animation-savvy crowd is also annoying, lol. People treat the guy like he's the only good animator at Toei... his fans are quite literally as bad as the "MADHOUSE SHOULD ANIMATE EVERYTHING" guys - you know the ones.
I think it's great that this thread exists for the purpose of showing off those other guys who go under the radar. There was a lot of really good stuff in #57. Before Shida's cut we had some reall nice camera work and focal shifts. it was a pleasure to the eyes to see a dynamic camera acting with a dynamic action scene. And, to top it all off, as Ajay mentioned they maintained it for the entire first half. No stop- and start, they gave us an intense scene with multiple segments, adaquate buildup, etc.
ALso this pops up toward the end, of Shida's cut.... is it just me or is that a very Naoki Tate-esque face?

Definetly, Karasawa is my favourite supervisor.
I have to say, battle damage is dissapointing in DBS, the best battle damage we had was in the BoG arc, also I hate the lack of blood...

Even though Shida's cut didn't have much polish, shading, etc. the way the camera moved looked great. It almost looked minimalist with how fluid yet plain the models were.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #57]
And here's Shida's cut in its full glory.
I would have uploaded it earlier, but I didn't really want to use my Fuji source 1. their quality is abysmal, and 2. that clock is obnoxious.
It's definitely Super Shida in the sense that it's not quite to the level usually found from him. Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely great work, but Shida tends to pour detail into his shading, whereas the artwork here is actually devoid of it, for the most part. I actually kinda like it, honestly. I screencapped something of his last week not knowing it was him due to the lack of highlights, so that's a fun little coincidence.
His character art is beautiful -- the sharp angles, the flowy detailed hair, and the expressive faces. It's so good. I cannot believe we didn't get to see his artwork in Battle of Gods! God damn it, Yamamuro. That makes me so upset.
You can see some corner-cutting at 0:11 to 0:13 where Goku is just a static image, but it's not something you're ever going to notice unless you're actively looking for it, so it doesn't really matter.
Good stuff on the whole. Absolutely love all of the rotation and camera movement. That is so Shida. I don't think I'll stop loving his unique way of drawing smoke, too.
I wonder if he'll be back in any capacity in later episodes. It took an entire year for him to finally produce key animation for the series, so I'm very scared it may be a long while.
Heading to bed now, but will cover who did what out of the other stuff tomorrow if someone doesn't do it before then.

SOoooo in One Piece episode 755, at around 8 minutes (crunchyroll) In there is a sequence with animation that looks like something Shida penned in.
Tell me my eyes arent playing tricks on me, but this doesnt look like Tomita who was last week. Did Shida pull off 2 sequences for Dragon Ball, and One Piece for this week?

If so, holy shit!

His one piece work surprisingly seemed way shorter than super cut.

That Shida cut really was amazing, especially after seeing it in HD. I have my weekly request: that shot of Zamasu where you can see him grinning, but his eyes are off-screen/shaded.

His work on One Piece today lasted 1 minute and 35 seconds.
His work on Super only lasted 25 seconds.

I dont watch one piece so dont take my word literal. I just saw his small cut on booru.

There were so many great shots from Shida's cut.

I think this might top Naoki Tate's cut from Episode 26 for me. There's just so much going on. I love it.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #57]
Shida definitely put the majority of his time into the first few seconds of his work on Episode #57. That background animation needed it.
