Post by sharkdude0709 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 1:07 pm

I found a clip on youtube that compares the to dubs of the ocean group and the funimation (i cant spell their name). I found it interesting because i never knew that the ocean group dubbed all of dragonball z. here is the link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wmQBwwHtwM (check it out if you guys want.)

This should be on the other General Discussion forums. ;)

But yes, how I miss Brian Drummond, he was brilliant as Vegeta. Even seeing this clip you can see that his milder Vegeta fits the character well, since Drummond seems to spark thoughts of "psychotic Veggie". :D

I watched 30 seconds of the video and got pissed off. I had to watch that episode in Japanesse to calm down.

Perhaps, but as much of a fan of the Japanese version as I am, I find that saying a single clip "pissed you off such much" that you have to "watch the entire episode in [Japanese]" is a bit ridiculous.

lol, It's all good. This is the only site where I've ever seen grammar rules. Then again, I'm on like 50 rap boards.

As for the video, the guy who uploaded it seems to favor the Ocean version, and I have no idea why. FUNi's is always better to me. I'd like to see a dub comparison of FUNi's and Ocean's versions of the whole fight with Buu.

Funimation is the best choice for the English version of DB, enough said.

Wow. Very interesting video. Is that a real Drummond dubbing in later episodes or was that added in?

I like Drummond's voice acting for Vegeta, but there are some scenes, like that Buu scene for example, that Sabat sounded better, though in times he sounded a bit too deep. In Drummond's case, he sounded better in the Vegeta and early Freeza sagas. Looking at the video, he sounded pretty good by both voice actors. Usually it's Goku by the later voice actor that sounds like he's constipated when he fights. I'm one of those people who have difficulty picking a side, since each side has its pros and cons. So really, whether Funi or Ocean is better, it depends on which scenes and what the characters go through.

So take it as if the later he goes in the series the older and deeper voiced he becomes. :p

(By the way, it's spelled ridiculous. And also, Vegeta admitting that Goku is better than him... wtf)

Hm, guess my last post was an acquired taste. I seem to be incurring that quite a bit recently...oh well, lol internet :P

Anyway, to sum it up, yes I know I made a typo. I didn't correct it because Synapse rightfully owned my ass on that one right after I got on someone else for making a mistake in their spelling. It had already been addressed in the thread.

As for Vegeta admitting Goku is better, it's called being a "dynamic character." :P

I actually like that scene a lot... glad I got to see it in both English versions. 8) Though I'm sure it will be a frosty day in Hell when Vegeta says the same thing to Goku's face.

Sabat is pretty terrible. I can't see how anybody can think he is better. He plays Vegeta like a constipated german she-male.

Drummond is pretty terrible. I can't see how anybody can think he is better. He plays Vegeta like a bad republic serial villian.

Horikawa is pretty awesome. He actually plays the character like it isn't a bad caricature/b-rate villain of some sort.

Drummond used to be good, but... um. :? I don't like the Ocean Dub version of that clip. The whole time I was watching, I was just waiting for the Funimation clip, being the Funi-dubbie that I am. :P

I have nothing against Horikawa or the Japanese version: I like them too, it's just I'm used to Funimation's dub. Except for the first two seasons of DBZ. I miss the Ocean Group dub. Horrible as parts were, some of their episodes were right on, which didn't come through in Funimation's redubs.
What's scarier than a DBZ H-game?

Drummond is too raspy, Sabat is too rough. (I like 'em though.) Horikawa FTW!
