*sigh* Can someone just like...give me their Dragon Boxes?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I hate to advocate piracy, but let's just say that there are... less than virtuous ways of getting them online. Although they may not be easy to find.

Hypothetically, if you were to go that route, make sure not to fall for any scam sites.

I'm happy that I have all 7, I got them this year from Ebay for $625 like new. You can find all 7 new for around $1,000 but you can find some for around 700 used maybe.

That's basically piracy if you were ok with that than you might as well just find that entire release online.

That's all beside the point though, I'm not saying that it is impossible to acquire the series in its proper form I'm just saying that it's difficult everywhere, not just in the US.

I've never heard of any other 4:3 releases for Z so someone else will have to fact check there being a non Dragon boxed sourced 4:3 release. I doubt it though.

This is an 80s/90s animated all-ages show that was popular amongst kids. It's not some potent super weapon that might fall into the wrong hands that we have to protect from evil.

I'm the same way about piracy. But I will say if people don't want to pay over 700 for the set download them. But they might be like me and they want the real thing with the box ect.

As for adding subtitles, it wouldn't be too hard to transplant the subtitles from torrents of the official release. I would switch the audio with Funimation's Blu-Rays anyway, the jp audio is a few notches above in quality. As far as the discs being useless, you're right. However, if you really want a physical copy, you could drop $100 USD for enough blank 8.5 GB DVD's. Not much considering you're still paying hundreds of dollars for the boxes. Not to mention that I have friends that would kill for something like that, it's practically the perfect English release. In the right hands, it would be a treasure. Although I do understand why someone wouldn't might not want to go through the trouble.

PS: You could also sell the original disks afterwards, which I would have no objection to since we're buying from fans, and none of that money goes to Toei anyway.

Not with all 291 episodes no, but maybe the old sets that came out from the toonami days.

The original singles that Funi put out were 4:3.

VHS were almost completed, and the DVD singles were (I think). I don't think the DVD's were from the "Toonami Days", but they are certainly 4:3.

I knew it, I just forget what the episode count was, I know that they where missing a good amount maybe 20 or more.

It had up to episode 276, so ya a few where missing, not as much as I first thought.

Like I said, I hate to advocate piracy, but when there isn't a single good release out there available, I can't help it. At a certain point, I have to give the illegal markets their fair credit.

The episode count is probably low because the Ocean Dub cut down on their episode count. The early Ocean Dub is on the singles, isn't it?

Edit: In fact, I believe they made 70-ish episodes into 50-ish, which would add up right around your number.

Yes you can buy them like that or in the box sets, I just don't know how easy you can find those. So it would be easy to get all of the singles.

You'd be getting used copies, but they're pretty cheap on Amazon. But they have some encoding issues. I'm not sure what that entails, but it can't be worse than the Orange Bricks. If you're dead set on a 4:3 release, collecting the singles is the most affordable way.

Yep, and for any who may stumble on this conversation, it's also worth mentioning that the GT singles have the NEPs. They also look decent and are super cheap! Go buy them now!

As listed in my signature, I'm currently borrowing them. Although I don't plan on buying the English Boxes, I basically laid out my buyer's plan back when I was saying this:
As for adding subtitles, it wouldn't be too hard to transplant the subtitles from torrents of the official release. I would switch the audio with Funimation's Blu-Rays anyway, the jp audio is a few notches above in quality. As far as the discs being useless, you're right. Although I do understand why someone wouldn't might not want to go through the trouble.
This is in reference to how to make the Japanese Boxes better viewing for an English Speaker.

I'm the same way about piracy. But I will say if people don't want to pay over 700 for the set download them. But they might be like me and they want the real thing with the box ect.
Yeah, my feelings on privacy aside I just like having the physical copies that I can watch on my tv. It's weird because Dragon Ball is the only show where I really care about TV vs online
