I'm willing to bet the Dragonballs would be quest items, but really... that's just idle speculation. If not, I can see it being way too easy to get them for higher level players, which would just serve to give them a much higher advantage over the others. And... yeah...

Ha, thanks for the plug, caejones.
(Damn, I picked the worst time to take down those little sideprojects of mine for updating purposes)

As for the actual dragonballs, I was thinking about that for a while. They should not only be rare as hell but people should have their guilds put together to search for them. Picture a 10,000+ member group called the Red-Ribbon searching for you!

Plus, the Kami should be mysterious like in Dragonball. Maybe certain weaker classes can be used to do things like make dragon radar or they could do the whole job system thing like FF3 so it isn’t always saiyan players..

I think this game should take place before Goku is around, if it takes during the series or after it, it'll be confusing seeing actual characters. That and the fact that everyone would want to be reenact the events, regardless..

Hee...

Well, if there are just 7 dragonballs... and they're spread all across the map... and there is significant work involved in acquiring decent radars... and if the concept of evil dragons is applied... and if there are enough not allies when things first begin... I could see the RedRibbon army rebuilding. Or the room29 army. ...

... Of course evil dragons involves acknowledgement of the idea from GT... then again, it's actually one of the few good ideas in the series, and it'd almost doubtlessly be cooler in an MMO (Like, I don't know... scan for the most powerful character in the game when the dragons come out so that no one is strong enough to beat them immediately?).
But this does make us think... 200 years seems to be just outside of Goku Jr's range of involvement, doesn't it? Hehehe...

*ahem*.

But... I think the whole dragon Radar thing is a point of interest. That and scouters. And ki-sensing. And... blowing up cities...

You're making me think of D&D now. "You can't just attack that ape standing like a retard in the middle of the road! You'll stop being lawful and you'll lose your monkhood!"

But, eh, I suppose that kind of consequence is necessary. It would rock to have an alignment system that changed your character's moral code depending on his or her actions, though. That would be so interesting to see played out... :D

Did I just catch a subtle Fable reference? :P Anyway yeah, scouters would be pretty cool too. I honestly wouldn't mind being a martial artist prior to Z when..I'd actually serve a purpose. I liked the World Tournaments a lot but the fighters at the end of DragonBall proved that after a certain point, fights like that can't be settled in a ring, so tournaments in a series after GT is a bad idea IMO...

Actually, not really. I've never actually played the game, so I don't know how well the alignment system in it operates (just that it's supposed to be really accurate). I did think of it in passing when wrote that last post, though... o.o

But yah, D&D pwns in the fact that most of the RPG games we have today operate on systems based on its rules. Classes, races, quests, battle systems... the concepts for them were (or most of them, anyway) sired by the tabletop games of old with their weirdly-faceted dice. That's where I was linking this to.

Oh my God, please don't think of me as some uber-dork now... even though I think I am one... DDDDDD:

Dragonballs would have to be quest items that would most likely be generated within an instanced storyline quest. That is to say, after a difficult quest (I'm thinking along the lines of those end-game Warcraft quests that have you going in a 40-man dungeon for an item that only drops less than 3% of the time...) you might obtain a #-star Dragonball that cannot be traded between characters, even if someone else who's done the same quest might have the same ball.

If they were... say, world-items, (As in, only 7 throughout the entire game) it would be too easy for some douche to find and hide one so the Dragon can never be summoned.

Now, I'm not sure how the system would work if you had, for example, 7 people with the 7 different balls. Would you be able to cooperate, put them together, and summon the Dragon? Who would get the wish?
Is it possible that Dende (or a new Kami) has improved the Dragon over the last 200 years?

Furthermore... What do you think the wishes would be?

What of the Dragon Balls in this era of time?

It is 200 years after the events of Dragon Ball Z, who knows what could've happened to them in that time. I wouldn't be surprised if they were pulled from the game (Probably the beta stages) until later (Version 1.0+).
MisterFlashdude wrote:Furthermore... What do you think the wishes would be?
Hmm.. wishes? Well of course the obligatory more power wish. That would probably grant a gigantic bonus in the strength/attack (whatever) attribute. Also, the more experience wish would be another. (Granting experience points of course, or whatever system they will use)

What I'm hoping for, is the mastery of different forms of combat, and skills specific to that combat style. If this holds true, then I could see another wish, reminiscent to that of Super DBZ, where you could learn the technique of another combat style, or a highly advanced one of your own.
Maybe wish for something like Instant Transmission instead of having to travel to Yardrat and go through the trouble of attaining it:?:.

Another fun wish would be that of becoming a GM for a day :P
Granting the power of an Administrator or GM at a time you choose would be fun I think. Perhaps taking the role of Kami for a while? :D

I think wish possibilities could also bring up a level of inbalance in the game. If they were too overpowered, that could destroy the status : level ratio of the game. However, if they were nearly impossible to obtain, as MisterFlashdude described (WoW-like impossible dungeon sieges), then that would be better. It's still a topic I don't think they've considered. I think the issue at hand is getting the game out first =P

Aw man, all this detailed MMORPG stuff sounds too heavy and time-consuming for my liking. :(
That's the reason I don't play mmorpgs in general, I just want to go on adventures and have battles without having to include all that math and leveling up.

Even with the fancy customization (that perm haircut would look hilarious on Kuririn), if its gonna be all +40 Defense with -0.3283 Offense x 3.14 to the 5th power, there's no way it could catch my interest. TT_TT
On hiatus.

If you're talking about my comment, then BINGO. Fable: The Lost Chapters is my PC game of choice at the moment.

But the general "doing a good/evil deed results in +X amount of good or evil alignment points" is common in tons of RPGs, online and non, nowadays. I don't see why there wouldn't be one in DBO

The alignment system is the core of what the gameplay and story are centered around. Just about everything you do results in a shift one way or another. Fable: TLC is an awesome game; you should pick it up if you've got a XBox or PC. PC version is better, though.

I really don't care that much for PC game, but as long as there isn't a monthly fee, I will buy and play the shit out of this one. It just sucks we have to wait until '08 for it....'07 just started. :(

You haven't played many MMORPGs, have you? The statistics usually aren't that different from regular RPGs.

Maths? Blah, never really cared about that special states thing in most of the MMORPG I play, just the attack and denfense. The wish I think it is more likey will be maybe like some training with Kami (I want to fight a clone of me! And maybe fight Mr Popo...), or to learn some attack. Anyway, who going to try out the growing-up system? I sure heck am going to.

*would use the dragon balls to wish to stay in one age state indefinitely*
... what? XD.

With the growing up system... will all characters start at the same age, or would you have a choice as to what period in life to start from?

This looks awesome, though I'm not a huge fan of MMORPGs, or computer games. The designs are really cool, though. ^^
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

Haha, I leave after being absorbed in school, soccer, WoW and Maple Story, and now I have to add this onto it! You guys are gonna drive me crazy! (^_~)
It seems brilliant though, Rick was telling me all about it.
