Characters not learning from their mistakes is another thing that grinds my gears.

(Also on the topics of translations, something that bothers me, when people say most NES games had terrible translations, which is inaccurate considering most NES games were written in English, so the LOZ opening isn't a result of a bad translator, it's a result of a Japanese person with the bare minimum knowledge of English)
I was referring moreso to the casting, for MGS. Never played past half of 1. The dub director basically ignored Kojima's recording, it was outsourced dubbing. The dub voices for Solid, Liquid, & Raiden are jarringly small, compared to the original recording. Ajay knows way more than I do on MGS.

Pokemon's dub casting was overseen by Nintendo, & it is exceptionally good
. The translation had some issues, with Crispin Freeman generally wanting it more accurate, & 4Kids' higher-ups preferring more jokes, plus it wasn't union, & Crispin, being the hardcore anime fan he is, wanted 4Kids to share the mass profit with the VA's, as he believed anime should be treated as well as anything else. So he quit, as 4Kids ignored his pleas.

So, the translation isn't TOO bad, from what I've seen of #1. But the reason that MGS's localization is praised ISNT because of itself, but because it's a fine-ass game that was well-suited to more mainstream English-speaking audiences, & EVERYBODY played it that way. Objectively, the dub casting is weird.

Here's a Korean MGS player's details on the subject. https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid ... 60/d1e326m

Here's my understanding of the casting differences, as a VO enthusiast. https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comment ... ny/d4cz4ju

Kris Zimmerman mentions her casting decisions in her interview with The Codec.

I don't know why but it grinds my gears when people say "Kid Goku" as if it's his actual name.

Some of the Japanese cast have been replaced due to some unfortunately died, so maybe he meant that?? Either that or he meant he misses the dub voices.

It's to put a difference in between the eras. Kid Goku, Teen Goku, Buu Goku, GT Goku, etc.

I get annoyed when people disagree with me. That being said, I love arguing.

It was Funimation. It seems that a lot of the North American fanbase still considers that as "the show" and the "subs" as an alternate version.

I don't. I'm the humblest person on this forum :)

Not to be rude at all (though I'm sure you were joking), but I humbly and respectfully disagree. :P

-Hating on Nozawa's voice and Kikuchi's score, the Japanese version in general
-"Dragon Ball isn't well written"
-"Goku has no intelligence, is one dimensional and has no character development'
-"Goku is a horrible father, Vegeta and Piccolo are better by miles" (completely untrue btw)
-'Vegeta's past was sad, he deserves to kill Freeza because of what he did to him on Namek and to the Saiyan race"
-"Toriyama fucked up Gohan's character by making him care more about studies than fighting"
-The games calling Cell Games Gohan, "Teen" Gohan
-"Goku gets all the spotlight"
-"Buu arc is horribly written"
-Dragon Ball is just about bigger lasers and muscles
-A majority of the new content, though I enjoy BoG and somewhat this current Zamasu/Black arc too
-Fukkatsu no F needs to die in a fire
-The general writing of Super, in particular when they try to make something emotional/dramatic (cue Gohan getting hugged by Shisami), expressing Goku's "stupidity" (the fake Monaka ep is insulting) and explain the logic behind fights (Hit gets stronger by coming up with a new stance....wtf?)
-Magetta's sound effects in Super, I'm almost 100% certain Toriyama intended him to have Gundam-like sounds (basing this on nothing but my gut)
Tim Duncan is dope and forever.

Hating on something is not the same as having a different preference. I prefer the sub, but I'm not going to go out of my way and start shit talking the dub because of my preference.
Heroes come and go, but legends are forever.
