Is it true that Toriyama stated Arale would "give a good fight" to 23ed Budokai Goku? Or anything of the sort?

That's all that was said concerning the two fighting. This was released publicly November 18, 1987. The day before, Chapter 151 of the manga debut in Weekly Shonen Jump. It's important to remember that the accounts recorded happened well before their official publication, so there isn't a strict timeline of when Toriyama stated this nor which chapters he worked on at the moment, but you can create reasonable assumptions which periods of the story were being referred to.Dragon Ball: Adventure Special wrote:If Goku and Arale fought, who do you think would win?
I guess Arale’s probably stronger.

Disclaimer: I might get into a disagreement with you. Sometimes I might even get feisty about it. I'll never harbor negative feelings because of it though. I hope you feel the same way!Jinzoningen MULE wrote: Maybe I should start making it a point not to comment when I'm not sure of something. Too many people know what they're talking about around here.
I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Are all DB figures from China/Hong Kong fake? I know the litmus test about the Toei sticker but a majority of the listings have them on the box but they do however appear to be stock, I have asked about it but waiting on response. Anyway the figures I am after are usually around £20 from Japan but these "Chinese Versions" are usually £15, so worth taking the risk? I know for the sake of £5 doesn't seem like a risk worth taking but in a post-Student life without a permanent job yet (just part-time) every penny saved helps
Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
In my opinion, that extra value is paying for longevity. I should know from past experience with products, but not necessarily with figures.

Is the Nyoi-bo truly unbreakable? Can we really picture Super Vegetto bending and pounding and blasting it with all his might and not leaving a scratch? What if it got sandwiched in between Godku and Beerus' universe-shattering fist bumps? Nothing would happen?

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
No such thing as "unbreakable" -- when something is claimed to be "unbreakable," that just means that nothing that's tried to break it so far has succeeded. XD
I figure it's much more durable than an ordinary weapon, though... and Goku fighting with it almost certainly charges it with his ki to some extent even if he doesn't realize he's doing it (like Yajirobe with his sword), which would protect it even further. But high-end Buu saga characters -- or worse, someone like Beerus -- should definitely be able to snap that thing like a twig.
(It'd still be neat to see Goku fight with it as an adult, though. Or pass it on to one of the kids, maybe Pan or Uub? Good way to give somebody a very visibly different fighting style from most characters in the series.)
Also, when I was reading up a bit on the original nyoi-bo just now, I noticed that it's described as being coated with a black iron-like metal that makes it weigh several tons... inspiration for the "densest metal in the universe" that the East Kaioshin summoned up a block of to test the Z-Sword, maybe? If we assume they have a similar durability, the nyoi-bo would be much tougher than the Z-Sword, so it'd probably be the most durable weapon in the series... but probably still breakable by someone on the high end of things.

It was freaking hilarious when everyone thought the Z-Sword was so perfect and powerful and then that metal block just snapped it like nothing.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Although the hand-to-hand fighting styles in Dragon Ball are all fairly distinct and follow the fighters' personalities, there's only so much variety you can get when everyone is limited to their bare hands.
I want to see the Nyoi-bo return. I want to see a swordsman have an even fight with an unarmed combatant. I want Beerus to use more pressure points like he did in the movie. I want Piccolo to freaking stretch like he did a million years ago and then forgot about.
Sorry to shoot one of your complaints in the knee, but Piccolo used his stretched arm against Frost in the Interuniversal Tournament only a few months ago.
nickzambuto wrote:Although the hand-to-hand fighting styles in Dragon Ball are all fairly distinct and follow the fighters' personalities, there's only so much variety you can get when everyone is limited to their bare hands.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
I'm not current with Super. I was having a hard time adapting to the Japanese voices, so my solution was to go back to the beginning and rewatch the whole series in Japanese from scratch.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Sorry to shoot one of your complaints in the knee, but Piccolo used his stretched arm against Frost in the Interuniversal Tournament only a few months ago.nickzambuto wrote:Although the hand-to-hand fighting styles in Dragon Ball are all fairly distinct and follow the fighters' personalities, there's only so much variety you can get when everyone is limited to their bare hands.

Therefore I'm trying to stay away from Super spoilers, but it is good to hear that technique has finally returned. It only took 20 or so years for Piccolo to remember he could do that.
