Favourite moment in the series?

Post by Krillin1994 » Thu Sep 08, 2016 5:17 am

What are people's favourite moments in the series?

For me the whole Krillin, Gohan and Vegeta vs Recoome fight is by far my favourite. The contrast in Gohan's bravery and some naivety from a young me expected Gohan's anger to beat Recoome before Goku would arrive.

My total shock at seeing a 5 year olds neck get broken has always stuck with me as such an intense moment.

Son Gokuu reuniting with his Grandpa. No transformation, no fight nothing is more memorable to me than seeing Gokuu's reunion which made me cry. It is not only my absolute favorite but imo it is the best moment in the series by a mile.

Ah yes I forgot the reunion of Gohan and Goku.

Also a very close second for my favourite is Goku vs Tien in the rematch when he removes his weights up to removing Tien's belt.

Some moments I like:

- When Goku becomes Oozaru against Jackie Chun and he can't get out of the ring :lol: ;
- When Karin sama gave Tao Pai Pai that dark cloud and took it away :clap:
- When King Piccolo appears on TV announcing the Day of Piccolo :twisted:
- When Kuririn saw Vegeta in Namek in first time (awesome scene...We can see fear in his eyes) :mrgreen:
- When Gohan got furious against Freeza;
- When Goku become SSJ in first time;
- When Piccolo decided to merge with Kami, but he was angry with Kuririn and Tien :lolno:
- When Gohan become SSJ 2;
- When Goten was training with Gohan in first time (and he couldn't fly);
- When Trunks become SSJ in front of Vegeta;
- When Vegeta destroyed the punch machine (one of the best for me) :lol: :lol:
- When old Kai fused Kaioshin with Kibito and said the fusion would last forever (such a troll);
- When Vados and Champa first appears;
- Goku holding Galactic King's Penis
- Zamasu cutting that alien in 2.
Vados Sama!

As far as raw emotion and significance in terms of the story and franchise, I don't think nothing will top Goku becoming a Super Saiyan for the first time against Freeza on Namek.

I'll just offer two I always relish when rewatching:

-Goku challenging Freeza on Namek, with the movie 3 score (Z)
-Goku and Kuririn's exchange at the end of GT

Goku punching straight through Piccolo.

I mean come on, how much more epic can you get? Up until that point, Dragon Ball was still very much a lighthearted and easy-going story. It had made its transition into slightly less gag material with the 22nd Budokai, but it still wasn't anything serious or particularly grand. But when Baba foreshadowed that Son Goku would one day "save the Earth", that made things so exciting, and then seeing that prediction fulfilled after so long, is beyond satisfying.

And the setup could not have been more flawless; Goku, who has now defeated most of the strongest members of mankind, his next great threat is freaking Satan. That's the only other place to go. And although the Super God Water is terrible and bland and cheap and awful as a powerup, the ends of Goku surpassing King Piccolo are nothing short of epic.

Piccolo doesn't go down easy though; in this world where you're either a complete bonehead, or a certifiable fighting genius, it's refreshing to see someone who is neither, he just sorta has common sense. There's no unbelievable, completely unorthodox gambit strategies that miraculously work like you might see from Goku or Krillin. With Piccolo, it's just sheer pragmatism. "Let me simply walk 10 steps and check my opponent's pulse before leaving." It's things like that, BASIC things that should fall under the umbrella of common sense, but that nobody really thinks about, that make me really enjoy Piccolo. Making him another prodigal fighting genius would have been the obvious choice; making him a brutish ogre would have been the easy choice. Making him just kind of a normal guy, mentally speaking, goes so far in characterizing him as someone unique.

He's not a Blood Knight either, he doesn't give a rat's ass about a good fight or honor. He's in this for actual power, not thrills. So as soon as he's outmatched by Goku, he just runs over and takes his friend hostage. Wow, almost made things look easy. And then he brutally, brutally tortures Goku by breaking both of his legs and one of his arms. Talk about a hopeless situation.

And that's why it's so amazing. Because even with the Super God Water being awful and cheap and lazy and blah blah, Toriyama still wrote one of the most absolutely hopeless situations possible, and then still had the characters succeed. The main character has become a cripple and the next attack will kill him, WHAT THE F%$# WILL HE DO NEXT???

It just epitomizes Goku in almost every way. He's the world's strongest fighter as a paraplegic, that's all that needs to be said. And the fact that he blew straight freaking through the dude is... wow. You don't see that every day.

Oh and the image of Oozaru behind Goku when he uses all of his power is... WOW.

These two panels (and, of course, the entire scene where they come from, being the scene where Goku blasts Freeza after he betrays him) are up there, it probably is my favorite moment. It's just so... powerful, really. It's one of Dragon Ball's deepest moments; motionless, yet shaking, conflicted, feeling pity, probably some self-hate too, Goku probably feels like he's the monster now rather than Freeza, it's all up to interpretation really. A beautiful example of how a picture if worth a thousand words.

Ah! Good one! This is one moment that definitely didn't translate to the anime properly.

^Love that moment too. The anime really lets it down, but it's a poignant character beat in the manga.

The entire battle with Freeza in the manga is just excellent.

My favorite moment in the series is when Vegeta sacrificed himself against Buu. The build up, voice actor performances, music, and absolutely chilling, howling noises the wind makes after the explosion cement this as the best scene in Dragon Ball. The lack of music at the end makes it even more intense.
Heroes come and go, but legends are forever.

60.

Rest in peace.

Another one of the anime's signature sound effects.

Mine would be Vegetas character development at the start and end of Dragonball Z. More so in the Boo saga.
