It seems to be implied from this article here:

Last full blown anime...
I heard about this just recently. It saddens me, but what I think Toriyama is saying is that this will be his last big project. He will probably still have new artwork popping up here and there in various magazines. I can't blame him though since he has worked hard on producing (writing and drawing) quality anime which can be a tremendous drain. However that means now, I must get my hands on a 360 though so I can play Blue Dragon or at least borrow one for a week (evil grin).

The article seems a bit.....misleading. Toriyama has never directed an anime before, beyond providing designs & some input to the story, just like with the Blue Dragon game.
On top on that.
On top on that.
Now, if you look at their info on the Blue Dragon anime.Anime News Network wrote:Last week, Akira Toriyama (Creator of Dragonball) and Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy) appeared at Tokyo Anime Fair to discuss the Blue Dragon anime, which is based off of the XBox360 game of the same name. During an interview with Anime Supervisor Yukihiro Matsushita, Toriyama made the remark "This may be my final anime."
? I'm assuming Anime Supervisor is just another fancy way of saying Director. Kinda contradicting if ya ask me.Director: Yukihiro Matsushita

Yeah, it definately sounds like a mistranslation. At the very most Toriyama could draw up the storyboards, but even that differs quite a bit from manga design. I'm sure he'll have a seat at each episode's production meeting, though.Sebastian (SB) wrote:The article seems a bit.....misleading. I have always hoped that this would happen, as extremely unlikely as it would be..MajinVejitaXV wrote:Pretty awesome. I wonder, personally, if this (in some round-about way) could lead to a Toriyama-directed "DragonBall Ultimate" series ala Hellsing.
[/wishful thinking]
A dream version of the show, condensed by getting rid of the useless filler, all animated consistently by one studio, with known plot holes or other quirks taken care of, and maybe even some elements of the story that were lacking expanded upon? THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN?! ..Seriously, though.
It would make the creators plenty of cash and it would make the fans plenty happy, a win-win.
