Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
Why is anyone surprised by the fact a "sequel" that hasn't even gotten two proper years of development is actually more of a stand-alone expansion instead of a proper sequel?

Why don't you say the same to Tenkaichi Budokai series, pointing out the fact that those games are boring as hell, came out three years consecutively and they're also an expansion of characters and didn't even bring a new Story Mode?
Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
Who says I don't? Even though I didn't play those games much as a kid when DBZ fell by the wayside for me, just by looking at the release schedule I can tell they're glorified expansion packs at absolute best.Grimlock wrote:Why don't you say the same to Tenkaichi Budokai series, pointing out the fact that those games are boring as hell, came out three years consecutively and they're also an expansion of characters and didn't even bring a new Story Mode?
Not that expansion packs are bad, god knows I'd take more stuff like Frozen Throne over whatever the fuck passes for DLC these days but they really should've called it "Dragon Ball Xenoverse Evolution" or something to get away with it better. Similar to how New Vegas is essentially just a spin off of Fallout 3 while using most of the same tech from that game.

I'm glad that animated cutscenes are making a return. They look much better than the last game. There were some really ugly looking animated cutscenes in the last game.

Because it wasn't such case on PS2 gen. What those games lacked in playable content, they've made with fan service and character roster and vice versa.ekrolo2 wrote:Why is anyone surprised by the fact a "sequel" that hasn't even gotten two proper years of development is actually more of a stand-alone expansion instead of a proper sequel?

Somebody try to elaborate how this is more like an expansion. Cuz from what I've seen, they switched up a lot of things in this. And if it's because of that roster, then I'd say you're overreacting, as there are many other stuff to anticipate for.
I really hate to sound like a defender, but I just wanna know.

A real sequel isn't just updating your roster and more fan service though: it's supposed to be an evolution of what came before. MGS1s formula was improved by 2 which was further improved by 3. Things that just bring in additional content while keeping the majority of the what came before exactly the same aren't sequels, they're expansion packs.MCDaveG wrote:Because it wasn't such case on PS2 gen. Its why I don't consider New Vegas or Arkham Origins real sequels, spin-offs at best and over-priced expansion packs at worst. This is being sold as a proper sequel to XV1 and from day 1 it looked anything but. At least the aforementioned examples I listed had the courtesy to not hype themselves up as true sequels, XV2 doesn't.
This isn't a condemnation of the game as I haven't played it and it'll probably be fun if XV1 as any indication, but don't tell me "Oh it's not a turd! The dog just took a crap!".

You guys can always choose another game, you know... Like Tekken 7 is coming too if that's a "real sequel" enough to you.
Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
I don't see the point of the condescension, even though I expected it because Dragon Balls fandom just cannot stand anyone disliking something associated with the franchise.Grimlock wrote:You guys can always choose another game, you know... The reason I bring this up is because people are suddenly shocked that something that was guaranteed to be XV 1.3 instead of XV 2.0 is going to end up as XV 1.3 when all the signs were there. It's the same backwards ass logic I see with comic book fans who freak the fuck out about a shock, twist ending for Captain America then it gets revealed it was just that: a shock ending made to shock you and not what you think it is. That's how this shit works if you see the signs for it.

Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinins about the game. However, I do think a lot of people are overreacting. For those of you who look at this game as XV1.5, I'm curious to know what you feel they could've added to make this a proper sequel. From the looks of it, they've done the following:
1. Improved the combat system,
2. Asded new elements to the story,
3. Improved customization options
4. Expanded the hub,
5. Doubled the amount of quests
6. Added characters
7. Added new modes
8. Improved overall game play.
I do think it's healthy to be critical and disappointed that some things did not make it into the game. But I just don't see how people dont consider this a sequel. Especially a game that hasn't come out yet. And if you think this is a cash grab, that's exactly what it is. These companies design games to make money, it's a business. But at the same time, let's not act like Dimps isn't trying to make a good game. Let's not forget that they have listened to a large majority of our feed back and actually implemented most of those changes. This is a damn good dragonball z game and I'm a little surprised at the negative response to it. I for one know that I'm gonna have a damn good time playing. And the ONLY reason XV1 got boring was because when you leveled up to the 90s, there was only 2 or 3 quests you could still play. If I have fun playing, then itshe worth every penny, plain and simple.

This is anything but a sequel, its more of an expansion pack that's worth 30$ or less, not 60$.ekrolo2 wrote:A real sequel isn't just updating your roster and more fan service though: it's supposed to be an evolution of what came before.
Will it be good ? it'll probably be just as fun as the 1st one but I haven't seen anything that's worth 60$.
I was hoping to see something on Storm 4's level due to it being the 1st true next gen DB game but it looks like we'll have to wait for XV3 or another game to see that.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

So a new world setting, new story, side RPG quests, and major gameplay changes(NOT patches) isn't a real sequel to you? Cuz that's what this game has. Hell, I'd even call this a RPG-fighting hybrid compared to the first game.ekrolo2 wrote: A real sequel isn't just updating your roster and more fan service though: it's supposed to be an evolution of what came before. Look at my Frozen Throne comparison down below to see why just adding new story to an old game from a year ago isn't a sequel by default.EXBadguy wrote:So a new world setting, new story, side RPG quests, and major gameplay changes(NOT patches) isn't a real sequel to you? You do have a point, XV 1.3 is doing some improvements but it's not evolving anything to a significant degree. Literally, everything you've said here is what Frozen Throne did to Warcraft 3, it took basically the game from a year before and added some new shit to it like a new campaign that's a narrative sequel to 3, new heroes, new units, improved gameplay elements and you know what? It's still just an expansion pack.dualist wrote:Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinins about the game. However, I do think a lot of people are overreacting. If you want to see what a REAL jump from a sequel to sequel is, look at MGS2 to MGS3 (I won't use MGS1 to 2 because 2 had a whole new generation of hardware to give itself an obvious edge). Literally everything from before was vastly improved with entire new ways of playing that weren't there before. Especially once the Subsistence version hit.
Look, I'm not calling Dimps evil or whatever and I know companies do this to make money. You know who I take issue with though? People who are surprised by the fact it's not a real evolution. FFS, the cutscene of Raditz dodging Piccolo's attack then trying to kill him is basically the same one from XV1 with nary a difference except your character acting like a clown when he shows up.
Seriously people, how do I exist on the same planet where everyone's ready to rip Call of Duty for selling its own brand of perpetual overpriced expansion packs passed off as sequels but when everyone's precious Dragon Ball franchise is clearly doing the same thing, we're expected to ignore it? Fuck that. Either everyone gets what's coming to them or no one dies, no picking favorites.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
I don't think it is fair to compare this game to those type of titles especially since they belong to a different genre. Granted they did make changes to the game but not big enough changes to the game to have it be considered a successor to the previous title. With the ps2 games there were graphical changes and gameplay changes as well along with the roster updates. Not to mention while we had the same story they used the new characters they added to bring more to the story mode so it isn't fair to say each game isn't different because BT1 doesn't play like BT2 and same with BT2. I'm sure XV1.5 is a great game and fun to play but these are made mostly for fan service and enjoyment so they know people are going to buy it and that it will sell well because it has the same formula as the previous title. We as consumers just get the short end of the stick.

I didn't ignore it, in fact, I addressed it there too. New setting? Frozen Throne gave about a dozen for Warcraft 3. New story? Frozen Throne did that too. Side quests? Did that too, gameplay changes? Did that too. Is it a sequel? Hell. No. It's an expansion pack that builds off 95% of its content from what existed before and using said assets for additional content.EXBadguy wrote:So you ignored the rest of what I've said huh?
That's what an expansion is: expanding on what already exists to crank out more shit in a shorter amount of time.

I didn't play Dragon Ball games nor do I know the in-depth history of their sales figures but I'll be a monkey's bastard step mother if XV2 doesn't sell like crazy even after people realize it's just a glorified expansion pack. Since when has that mattered recently? Call of Duty games still keep selling. The inevitable trite garbage of EA keeps selling even though people hate them apparently.

Expansion is what happened to Golden Freeza. They added in XV but he didn't make it to the Story Mode, there was just a Parallel Quest about him and that's it. Now the Story Mode will have a completely new situation, new conflicts... And other new aspects that have been already mentioned.
Goku Black will be an expansion, not the whole game that will add new stuff to the lore, to the franchise (something that none of the past games ever dreamed to do).

Dimps would have to knock everything off they did and just add a bunch of random characters that NO ONE will use. Characters above all else... I think even online would have to be kicked out.dualist wrote:What would they have to do to for the game to be worth $60 to those of you who thinks it's worth $30?
