Would make no sense to me introduce many new characters and than finish the series....

There's no reason to think the arc will introduce so many chara, and that they will be "used" for something (think of 5 U6 chara, used and gone).

Yeah, it makes no sense to introduce interesting characters only to end the story immediately. That'd be like if the manga introduced Oob only to immediately end.
