I'm thinking of it taking place between BoG and RoF. Kinda like these short gaps of adventures they had to deal with. And after the new RR get their fannies handed to them, they retreat and go back into hiding. Then they have to think of some other scheme. And as soon as they think come up with the perfect plan. BOOM! They find out about SSJB.

On a scale from Supreme Kai to the male cast of Red vs Blue (well, the males who aren't Freelancers), how incompetent are the main characters

It ranges since they're such a large group of characters. On one end you have Bell who's probably one of the strongest test subjects they have, and still the weakest compared Goku and co. And then you have a character like Cubeb (I haven't drawn him yet), a "brilliant" scientist who's experiments constantly fail miserably. At the very least they're early DB Pilaf gang level of incompetence.

Only use SS3 long-term if you create a way to master the form. Even then, don't make it the standard.

I've got a couple story ideas I want to run past people:

The first is a third Goku Black-centric one-shot that would actually have an old, worn out Future Chi-Chi dealing with Black. The problem is, I don't really know what story to make around it

The second is a quasi-sequel to "Yamcha & Ox-King Save The World!" except this would be "Captain Ginyu Conquers The World!". It would star Captain Ginyu, obviously in his frog form being taken in by a genius kid and given a voice modulator to speak with which... doesn't end well for the kid. From there on he would try to exact revenge on the Z-fighters

My problem with this one is I've got a hundred equally viable directions to take it. Do I just have Ginyu snatch say Beerus' body when he's visiting Earth and simply have Goku & Vegeta fight him like that? Or do something similar like with Yamcha & Ox-King where he wins not by just beating the snot out of people, but through his wits and smarts?

My advice, don't worry too much about whether or not the little background details make perfect sense or not.

I wouldn't get too bothered about scientific accuracy with Dragon Ball stuff. I had Beerus & Freeza's colliding punch break the eye of Saturn and I'm pretty sure that doesn't make a lick of scientific sense

While things like that aren't all that important in the Dragon Ball franchise, I'd actually like it more if Goku during a space battle would actually have to be holding his breath the entire time. It'd handicap him pretty hard even if he can hold it for several minutes, so it'd make for an interesting fight. The enemy also blowing up the planet and making it impossible for Goku to catch his breath would create tension, too, which is always good.

If you want it to make sense then few minutes should feel like an eternity to them. To answer your question, surviving in space for that long does make sense but contradicts RoF Vegeta dying pretty much instantly from lack of oxygen.

I think Vegeta died from the explosion. If he didn't, he still wouldn't have had time to react and start holding his breath.

I doubt the explosion did him in since Whis and Beerus are sure Freeza's alive and his strength is wwwwaayyyy lower than Vegeta's. Hell, even in the Freeza arc, Freeza keeps saying the lack of oxygen will kill Goku out in space, not the planet itself exploding in his face.

True, though Frost Demons (yeah, I call them that) have been able to survive extreme injuries before. Freeza survived losing several limbs, the explosion of Namek, and being sliced up.

Indeed, but the fact Freeza keeps saying that the vacuum of space is what will kill Goku and not Namek exploding does imply Goku's primary concern shouldn't be just getting off an exploding planet, its getting off of it before the vacuum suffocates him.

Then I'd go with what I mentioned before; Vegeta didn't have enough time to react. He didn't know what Freeza was doing, and the next thing he knew, Earth was gone and he was nearly out of breath. Seems logical enough after an initial type-up.
