Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
If Kei doesn't want to talk to you (personally, any of you, anyone in this thread, etc.), too bad. That's not this thread's problem and it's not up for discussion and is not particularly relevant to the larger conversation.
For a final time, I am offering an administrative warning that this thread needs to stay on-topic and not be about someone's personal life. Any additional posts that do not follow this will be deleted and/or cause the thread to be locked with no further option for discussion elsewhere.
Consider what you write before posting it to the Internet. Particularly on this forum, we serve as a massive reference and will continue to do so for years/decades to come. When people find this (and they will), do you want your name attached to making up stories and causing threads to go awry? Maybe you do, and if so, this is not the place for you. This type of content is embarrassing as much for us as it is for you.

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
I called Tommy at Harmony Gold to follow up on the lost tape. He said they checked their vault again and could not find the tape. So... it's gone.
However, there is a slight chance that it was actually sent to FUNimation along with some Carl Macek-related tapes for a project that FUNi was putting together. If not there, then to Toei.
The only person who might know where it was shipped is Billy Davis, the materials supervisor at Harmony Gold, so I called him and left a voicemail. If I can find a record of when and where it was shipped, then I might be able to track it down.

That sucks.... but at least we know it was shipped somewhere.DerekPadula wrote:I called Tommy at Harmony Gold to follow up on the lost tape. He said they checked their vault again and could not find the tape. So... it's gone.

That's not good at all.DerekPadula wrote:I called Tommy at Harmony Gold to follow up on the lost tape. He said they checked their vault again and could not find the tape. So... it's gone.
I see this as a double edged sword with two possibilities, if FUNi has the tape it might be saved, if Toei has it, the tape (and any chance of finding out what was on it) is pretty much screwed as Toei would almost certainly destroy it the second they got their hands on it without even having the decency of backing it up first.DerekPadula wrote:However, there is a slight chance that it was actually sent to FUNimation along with some Carl Macek-related tapes for a project that FUNi was putting together. Best of luck derek, fingers crossed FUNi got it and not Toei because of Toei has it, it'll be next to if not impossible to get it (at least with FUNi we'd have some chance).DerekPadula wrote:The only person who might know where it was shipped is Billy Davis, the materials supervisor at Harmony Gold, so I called him and left a voicemail. If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

Well guys, forgot to mention this but I'm now a part of the Broadcast audio project. I found quite a few full episodes in original broadcast audio (plus I got my hands on the Big Box Dragon Ball Z) and sent it all to Derek. It's not even close to the whole series but I hope it helps

DBZ episodes 1-17, 30, 51, 95, and 120 are all readily available in varying quality (AAC, AC3, FLAC). Also DB episode 153 and of course the Big Box (229/237).SSGSS Goku wrote:Well guys, forgot to mention this but I'm now a part of the Broadcast audio project. Good luck recovering this lost piece of DB's history. Hopefully, you can get it properly stored somewhere.DerekPadula wrote:I called Tommy at Harmony Gold to follow up on the lost tape. He said they checked their vault again and could not find the tape. So... it's gone.

I know. But Derek didn't have them so I sent it to him. I also found an FLAC file for Bio Broly that sounds like the Big Box audio quality so I sent him that tooclutchins wrote:DBZ episodes 1-17, 30, 51, 95, and 120 are all readily available in varying quality (AAC, AC3, FLAC). It's more or less a audio drama version of Movie 11, but in high quality stereo.

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
Honestly, if the complete broadcast audio is never released, then at the very least I would wish that audio could be available in reverse chronological order, so I don't have to deal with the shock between switching between HQ audio and LQ audio....
isn't Stereo Broadcast Audio synced to the Dragon Boxes available for GT at least?

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
There is a Taiwanese DVD set that's a bootleg which uses audio that's higher quality than the Dragon Box. However, there are two problems with this set: 1. It's in mono and 2. It does not have eyecatches.

I've heard about that set, but I don't know where to find it.
I'm honestly surprised that GT broadcast audio isn't available online, considering it reran with it relatively recently.

It's out there, it's just not on any western sites that I'm aware of. You kinda need to know where to look to find it.Danfun64 wrote:I'm honestly surprised that GT broadcast audio isn't available online, considering it reran with it relatively recently.

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
Just wanted to pop in to say I'm very interested in the Harmony Gold dub seeing the light of day, in the highest quality possible. From what I understand from my skimming through this topic, VHS tapes were released for the episodes 1-3 as well as the combined Movie 1+3? So this would mean the only possible source of episodes 4 and 5 would be on recorded VHS tapes, thus the chances of seeing episodes 4 and 5 would be next to none, let alone in high quality. But hey, I'll gladly take what I can get!
Derek, you said some kind souls on this site managed to send you high quality captures of the VHS tapes. Just so I am clear, is this for both the movie and episode tapes? Also, and I'm sure you already did this, but just in case it slipped your mind, back up those files if you haven't already and in multiple places. It would be an absolute crying shame if those gems got lost to the sands of time.
Anyways, I really hope one day these captures can be seen by the general public, be it hopefully official means, or as a last resort, unofficial!
EDIT: I just had another idea. I believe someone else already mentioned this earlier, but the distributor of the VHS tapes could possibly have "old dealer stock" available. Derek, have you considered asking Tommy if he could possibly ask the distributor to check for such? If we could get copies of both VHS tapes, we could possibly send them to Chris and get Funimation to possibly release them officially on a far more archive friendly format, maybe even restored to near "lossless" VHS quality!
Also, did Kei ever upload a broadcast quality version of the Mystical Adventure opening? It is by far my favorite, and I would love to hear it in broadcast quality!
Oh, and if anyone ever becomes aware of any online auctions to buy the tapes, let me know! I would be more than happy to contribute to the cause of getting this long lost dub to see the light of day!

The entirety of Harmony Gold DB Movie 1 + Movie 3 (including scenes missing from other versions) can be found on a certain body part themed private torrent site...
...although even if you figure out which site I'm referring to, you'd need an invite, and you'd also need to keep your ratio up...

Well, that is fine and dandy, but Derek says he has and I quote...
If what I am understanding is true, that means he has episodes 1-3 and the 1+3 Dragon Ball Movie in high quality. I think I would prefer him to perhaps consider releasing it in some official capacity, maybe cutting a deal with Funimation via Chris, or failing that, an unofficial capacity release as an absolute last resort.Yeah, I have a high-quality capture of the original tapes and episodes that are better than the YouTube video.

Re: The Harmony Gold Dub & Broadcast Audio Discussion Thread
I might have some free time over the next few weeks to work on this again. I've been busy publishing Dragon Soul, which comes out tomorrow. After the marketing push is over I will be going through my projects list and figuring out what to do next, so I might have some time to dig up the Harmony Gold stuff again. The original broadcast audio is another such project.
If I recall correctly, the person who shared the Harmony Gold dub movies with me told me not to share them with anyone. Might have even been Kei. Feels like it was 6 years ago. In any case, I think I still have them, so I'll put them on my Google Drive for safekeeping, if nothing else. And I'll see if Sabat is interested.
