After a long wait, I've finnaly imported them (And had to buy a Region 0 DVD played while waiting).
I find it looks gorgeous on my 26" HDTV, crystal clear, and I'm loving the FUNi voices with original BGM's.
I just want them to go through with it, and not pull an " Ultimate Uncut " on us.
I feel the same way. I've waited so long to own the series and now I can. I held back from purchasing individual discs because I didn't want to get stuck missing episode and also because it would have been really really exspensive to do so. But now, even if they were to stop production of the sets at any point at least I will have straight episodes.

I feel really bad for you guys who did buy the singles. FUNi should atleast be reasonable enough to try to offer the discs that most people are missing if they have already produced them and still have some around.

Yes, crystal clear.

P.S. - That's lossless, and no I didn't alter it. You'd think since they just used the same copy of "Head Cha La" over and over that they'd pick a really good copy >_>;;

My 26' HDTV is less forgiving and really brings out the grain and specks on the set. :(

Looks like that's the very last frame of Head-Cha-La, right before it gets into the actual episode content.

Yeah, at least these DVD's are organised now, I've been waiting for AGES for cheap, affordable Dragonball Z boxsets.
And Corey, I know, you have a point, its not the best quality, when its in motion, I think its great.

...yes? It's the last couple of frames that look like ass, which is the byproduct of a bad MPEG-2 encode. My point being that since they only did one encode, I would hope that they would make it a good one. Maybe even pick one without chili peppers ;p

That's cool, obviously some people like it. I strongly disagree with them, but I don't care either way.

Yeah, yeah, I bumped this thread again. Do something.

However, this is the only place relevant enough to pose a particular question to a particular person on a particular subject.

Corey-- it's been weeks since you said you would have your extensive Season One review website up, and that was a few weeks after you originally intended to have it up. Can we assume at this point that it is officially DOA?

And let me make it clear that I am not trying to hassle you, that I am not obsessively anticipating it, nor would I be angry at you for not posting it. I completely understand that you're a busy man and have far more-important things to worry about than working on a review website of a butchered anime DVD set that most people seem to have bought already. I'm just curious for a confirmation of its current status.

I think that a Private Message would have been more appropiate than bumping this thread up, but meh...

Point of the matter is that this should not be happening, especially from a transfer from HD masters or whatever.

No, it's alive...kinda. My internet at home went out (yay Comcast), which sucks because I planned on having it up last night as part of an April Fool's thing. It's done, it just needs to be uploaded. I would have burned it to CD and brought it in, but I'm resigning at my work today so I have a ton to wrap up.

But yeah, real life has been hectic the past two months. My dad was hospitalized with a 99% blockage in his left ventricle and had emergency surgery, my girlfriend had problems with her job and had to look for a new one (which worked out for the best) and I also decided to test my viability in the job market and found a really nice position with a sizeable pay increase.

...so, yeah, combined with my being sick of the subject for a bit, I took a break. The original review site I wrote was pretty fucking boring (and pretty vicious), but this time it feels more organic. It still has all the facts, and even a little more than before since I talked to Video Post & Transfer personally, so it should be worth the wait. I think. If not, at least you're not paying for it like you do with the set itself ;p

SkitzZero and I have actually found something pretty groundbreaking about the set (well, it's more of his discovery, but he doesn't post here as much) which may be beneficial to some of you who are interested in this type of thing. I'll probably talk to him first before I post the details.

The set doesn't suck as much as we think!

It doesn't? Well, get back with SkitzZero and see if you can post the details because I would really like to hear about this lack-of-suckiness that a lot of us seem to be overlooking.

I'm one of those whom, although disliked the fact Funi lied about remastering, and made it look overall worse by making it widescreen, am greatful to finally have proper season sets.

Widescreen wasn't too noticable on my 40inch HD Bravia since it seems the dvd player makes it auto full-screen. What that does however is make the visual quality even sharper (its outputting at 1080i using HDMI) thus the amount of dust, grain and glue is very apparent.

And you know the parts where the white is "very" bright? In the episode where Vegeta throws his garlic attack and Goku counters with the kahmaha, its almost unwatchable because of how bright it is.

It also annoyed how the voices are much louder then the music. Luckly, if you set it to japanese voices and sub, tis perfect. Though thats more for amusment for me, high pitched Goku? no thanks.

I signed the petition, and will be sending a letter to Funi as well, but despite this, I'll still be getting the sets, at least upto the Frieza saga. At least by then (Aug) we'll know if Funi makes any comment or not about changing things. If they don't, I'll just carry on getting them. Something is better then nothing, and I rather not wait till I'm retired until a proper set is finally released.

If only the Dragon Boxes had subs, eh?
I wish today was just like every other day.

I looked at that opening sequences quite a couple of times, and I can't see it. You'd have to be watching it frame-by-frame, and who has time for that?

It's not about watching it frame-by-frame. I think Corey was merely pointing out the general craptacularness of the copy they chose-- it's just one more thing to throw onto the argument of how rushed/compromised/thoughtless the set is in general, and not meant to be a specific ZOMG THIS ONE FRAME MEANS DON'T BUY THIS!!

DING DING DING ;p

FWIW, I actually discovered that frame when checking the intro for Progressive flags (as it wasn't reading as 100% Film in DGIndex). I'm not so crazy as to suggest not buying a release because of a single flawed frame, I was just stating (as Lemmy suggested) that if FUNimation was only gonna encode the opening once (since it is the EXACT same digital copy each and every time "Head Cha La" plays) you'd think they would encode it...well, competantly.

I'm just grateful, infinitely so, that no one here has tried to say "lol ur not reel db fan widescren has moar pichur idiet y u tink peepul alwheys wan the widescren??/" *points to Amazon.com's intelligent populous*

Still waiting for Comcast to get their ass in gear and fix his interweb
