I hope this happens. That way our heroes can stand a chance against a fused Black/Zamasu. SSJB Vegito would be so awesome like he when he was SSJ fighting against Super Buu.

This is the most overused non-criticism. Just because something is a little too convenient, or maybe not creative enough for you, doesn't make it fan-fiction. Sorry to nitpick, but buzz-words kill discussions, and they annoy me to no end.

What's exactly is fanfiction here?

The fusion with people hoping for SSB Vegito. People always seem to want old and not new or just Super Saiyan 10 or a fusion of every transformation. Evil Goku is fanfiction so is Trunks returning and using Final Flash.

Mafuba is a better idea than fusion but for too many it is not 'cool' enough. With the Mafuba you can have the fun of trying to seal them away whereas with the fusion it will be that they are stronger and that is it.

How is fusion, then one shotting someone, fun at all.

I like the idea of someone holding them off while the Mafuba is performed and then some sort of tennis match with reverse Mafubas, but this obviously will not happen.

My prediction is that Vegeta & Trunks will merge with the Potara, and they will defeat Merged Zamasu by cooperating with Goku, who has the Mafuba.

My thoughts exactly. So much damn fanservice that it hurts, I was actually expecting for them to defeat the main antagonist once without necessarily surpassing him

I said in series in general, mate, that include Z, Movies, GT, etc. Also Super do not follow the manga precisely (remember that Gregory and Frog Ginyu are a thing)

In series the mafuba is used four times (Now about to be five) and successful twice, in general the Fusion is used three times and is technically successful twice. In fanfiction they are both overused.

Using a fusion make sense to use in this story arc.

Not using the fusion just because:
- A movie, that isn't in Super continuity, did it once.
- A serie, that isn't in Super continuity, did it.
- And several video game make plenty of non-canon fusion.

It make no sense to limit the story because side-product did it.

It turns out that Black and Zamasu were just misunderstood this whole time, they just had to learn to say no to dr-Tea!

Outside of the initial designs for Black, Trunks and Mai they've kept away from showing stuff before it happens this arc, with the sole exception being when Amazon posted images of art cards before they were supposed to, spoiling what Rose looked like. I imagine unless someone messes up the first time that we will see Supreme God Zamasu will be either in the episode itself or the NEP on the previous episode.

Well this "Merged" Zamasu is going to become an extremely relevant character in this arc. The ultimate main villain. So there's a pretty high chance they will show him in this weeks V Jump. Leaks should start appearing anytime now. 16-18th.
