What version did you start off with?
Re: What version did you start off with?
Yes it did. After all 98 episodes of Kai aired, it switched to airing the dub of GT, complete with Menza score
. I'm sure that had Nicktoons been allowed, since the possibility of a Boo Kai was low at that point of time, they would have switched to the Boo saga of the old Z dub after ep 98 of Kai, but they weren't, and so I think we ended up with a lot of new fans who are confused by the time jump. At the very least NickToons aired the movies as well (Not 100%, but I think they reused the old TV Masters, so Movies 1-2 were the Toonami edits of the Pioneer dub, Movie 3 was the Saban dub, those three being the only DBZ Ocean dub content ever to touch Nicktoons, while the rest were the Toonami edits of the in-house stuff...unless they aired DB Movie 1, which most likely would have used the BLT dub due to being precensored.)

Couldn't tell you the exact date, but some time in the early 2000's I saw the King Piccolo saga on Cartoon Network. Don't know if it was the original run of the show or not. Also remember watching the Mexican version of Buu Saga a while after that, but I didn't like it nearly as much.

The French dub during the 80's.ゴクウブラック wrote:So I decided to create this thread to ask you guys what version of Z did you first watch?
For me it was FUNi's original dub ( I started watching the series back in 2012 during my second year of highschool )
A year later I watched the Japanese dub ( which I also loved )
All in all I loved both versions and i'll never ever get tired of watching them![]()
Sean & Nozawa do /AMAZING/ performances as Goku they are the character to me, because they bring such life to his spirit and personality ( I hate Sean's Kaio though, kinda scratchy on the ears but other than that everyone else is pretty solid )
Post your first time exposures below! ( I'm quite curious )
Re: What version did you start off with?
Was it at least the first run (which had far fewer edits compared to sub-sequent airings)? If you, what do you remember about the dubbed versions of the cut scenes?

The original Ocean dub aired in the late 90's on YTV
Re: What version did you start off with?
Started off watching Z with the "Ocean dub", when it was first running on Toonami. I believe it was episode 7 of that dub where Gohan is in a cave doing math problems. Also with DB it was the Kidmark version of the Pilaf arc. Didn't watch the Japanese version until the DVD's started coming out, but now that's my preferred method of viewing. Until then the only Japanese Dragon Ball I experienced was from the little 10-sec Quick Time/Real Player video files from the various fan sites out during the late 90's-early 2000's.

Sadly, no. It's been a long time since I've been in the Philippines. Any tapes I've had (if I did record episodes) are probably destroyed.Vorige Waffe wrote:By any chance do you have any recordings of the Filipino English dub?VSVoidSpartan wrote:

So can we start off which version of each DB show that we started off? For me it was:
Dragon Ball: The 1995 Ocean voice cast dub in 1997 on VHS
Dragon Ball Z: The 1996-1998 Saban era dub in 1998 on Toonami
Dragon Ball GT: The Japanese version in 2002
Dragon Ball Super: The Japanese version in 2015

Re: What version did you start off with?
Started with z definitely..
I actually started with a dub I am not even sure who produced..Hindi dub..
I don't know but maybe it was done by cartoon Network themselves for my region.. if that makes sense..
I remember watching freeza fighting Goku.. It was the best..
And then majin buu vs Goku I think..
Saw the whole series as I got internet in 2015 and decided to complete what I once started..

Re: What version did you start off with?
I started with DBZ on Toonami, then they aired Dragon Ball right beside it, and then GT. Then I discovered the manga and it's been my favorite ever since.

FUNi dub on Colors, 2010
FUNi dub on Toonami, 2001 (or, more thoroughly, FUNi dub of Kai on...piracy, 2013)
FUNi dub on Toonami, 2004
None
God, I feel such a pleb.
Then again, I read the manga pretty thoroughly around 2007, several times, so yeah..

Dragon Ball Z: 2000, French dub with Polish voice-over.
Dragon Ball GT: 2000, First ~30 episodes: French dub with Polish voice-over, Next ~30 episodes: Original Japanese version with Polish voice-over.
I also watched some Dragon Ball Z movies on Rai Uno or Rai Due in Italian (2001-2003?).

Re: What version did you start off with?
Dragon Ball: BLT/Ocean dub
Dragon Ball Z: Westwood/Ocean dub
Dragon Ball GT: Blue Water dub
I think I also technically saw a Blue Water episode or two of Dragon Ball before I saw the BLT/Ocean version, but I barely remember it, so my exposure to the BLT/Ocean dub was my true introduction to DB.

The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Well, probably just as Kojiro Sasaki said. I'm assuming it was a Polish voice over (one male actor and one female actress doing the voices for all of their respective gendered characters) and in the background, you could hear the French dub.huzaifa_ahmed wrote:Dafuq? That is so incredibly convoluted, I am not sure why it would work that way.TheGreatness25 wrote:Well, probably just as Kojiro Sasaki said. Re: What version did you start off with?
You have original French dub + one guy reading all the dialogues in Polish. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSgLqLlY9Y0huzaifa_ahmed wrote:Dafuq? Re: What version did you start off with?
Latin American dub by Intertrack.. It's still my favorite dub, but it's been yeeeears since I last watched the series in Spanish.. Nowadays I'm more familiar with the FUNimation dub. The FUNi dub has been pretty good ever since Kai. But I was definitely not a fan of the original dub. Sure it's nostalgic now, but I always thought it was terrible, and I know this might not be a popular opinion but the Falcouner soundtrack is bad and ruined the show for me. It was too noisy, which in turn made the voices even louder so the music wouldn't drown everything out.. Since I was already used to the original Kikuchi soundtrack (what Intertrack used), the Falcouner one was an insult to the show for me.
So it's:
Intertrack -> original Ocean/FUNi -> original Toei
